Josephine Bracken

In the last days ofFebruary 1895, whilestill in Dapitan, Rizalmet an 18-year oldpetite Irish girl, withbold blue eyes, brownhair and a happy

disposition.

She was Josephine Bracken,

the adopted daughter ofGeorge Taufer from HongKong, who came to Dapitan to

seek Rizal for eye treatment.

her. His loneliness and boredom musthave taken the measure of him and

what could be a betterdiversion that to fall in

love again.

suspected Josephine as anagent of the friars and theyconsidered her as a threatto Rizals security.
