IN NumBERshistoryRenault-Nissan Consulting, has its roots in this constant quest for performance, and works to offer its clients the benefit of this long and productive experience!

1989: Creation of Institut Renault de la qualité. This new institute would initially concentrate on Lean and Quality, before adding Management to its portfolio in 1994.

1996: Deployment of the Institute to international with creation of two subsidiary companies in Spain and United Kingdom.

2000: The Institut Renault de la Qualité had developed a comprehensive business span and would be invited to expand its coverage worldwide. Targeting global benchmark status, it would set about acquiring international clients by developing a broad cultural dimension.

2008: Renaut’s three consultancy functions (Institut Renault, Organization Department and B2B Department) were merged into a single unit, and the Institut Renault de la Qualité would become Renault-Consulting. The same year, Renault-Consulting Romania came into being.

2016: With the acceleration of the synergies between the Groupe Renault and Nissan, Renault-Consulting becomes Renault-Nissan Consulting, and Renault-Nissan Consulting would open a branch in Brazil.

ambitions for 2020: Following the opening of Renault-Nissan Consulting Brazil in 2017, Renault-Nissan Consulting presented an ambitious medium-term plan early 2018. By 2020, it will be the benchmark consultancy and training partner of the Renault-Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance, with worldwide team outlook and scope. could you tell us a little about the Learning Expedition you worked on recently?

Boris huDec : The Learning Expedition (or LEX) is an initiative of Renault-Nissan Consulting’s manufacturing & supply Chain team. The idea is to offer our clients, and prospective clients, a chance to visit innovative companies, for insights into emerging practices in specific fields, and for impetus in getting new projects off the ground. For example, they might be interested in opening international offices, or forging links with the companies visited, or developing a fuller understanding of a particular subject. Our job here is to put on a stimulating and inspirational programme experience.

why did you choose china for this learning expedition?

B.h. : The idea originated with the Creativity unit at the Renault-Nissan alliance Development Engineering Department, and was taken up by the Groupe Renault Creativ Lab network.The Chinese scene is incredibly intense, especially in areas such as innovation, new energies and electric vehicles. They have business ecosystems, including whole cities, that are eminently conducive to the development of these kinds of new technologies. so it’s a highly instructive business environment for people to discover.

Learning Expedition china

what kind of programme did you put on?

B.h. : On the week-long Chinese Learning Expedition we took along thirty of so participants, clients from Groupe Renault, Nissan China, and outside companies. The expedition started in Hong Kong, at the Infinity Lab (the Infinity brand’s innovation laboratory), then went on to schenzen with a visit to the Ash Cloud mobile accessories production unit, several innovation laboratories, major groups such as Huawei (whose telecom infrastructures are opening up to the automotive market, via developments in electric and autonomous vehicles), and Tencent, supplier of the WeChat mobile service (the Chinese WhatsApp).

how would you sum up your missions with the engineering, innovation and Purchasing practice?

B.h. : my day-to-day work spans several missions, and that kind of diversity is a very satisfying aspect of my job. Right now I work on a programme for developing and implementing a new process that manages development of alliance vehicle platforms. I’m also rolling out an operational excellence programme to improve the efficiency of operational departments.

The expertise fielded by Renault-Nissan Consulting instructors in the fields of engineering, quality and manufacturing earned top-level recognition at the Quality Week event held by Renault’s Russian subsidiary, avtoframos, in February.

Renault-Nissan Consulting topped the list of a dozen or so consulting firms to come away with the Best Training Organization award at the awards ceremony in moscow, attended by Renault Russia senior management.

Digital Awarenessnew training course from renault-nissan consultingThe new Digital Awareness course addresses managers and project leaders from all functions, with exercises and case studies to help them develop a sound grasp of the digital challenges facing businesses today, and the transformation levers operable.

The course is run by Robert milnes and Kevin Wiltshire from Renault-Nissan Consulting uK along with Etienne Pesnelle and Guillaume Gerbaud from Renault-Nissan Consulting France. It enjoys wide exposure through a social network campaign, and has already been taken up by a number of clients from outside the group. Fifty or so people in France and the uK have completed the course so far, and rollout to other countries is coming shortly.

what is Pocket Result ?

maylis stauB : Pocket Result came into being five years ago, offering dedicated decision support software, for new-generation qualified business intelligence.

a staff of fifteen works on measuring business performance, using a dedicated digital platform that analyses all relevant data alongside key management indicators. The aim is to assess a performance situation and determine appropriate action plans very rapidly on the basis of this analysis.

most of the Pocket Result staff spend more than 40% of their time on reporting. Dedicated software, rather than standard packages like Excel and PowerPoint, makes for faster and more efficient compilation of data from multiple sources. What we’re offering is effective decision support.

why exactly did renault-nissan consulting call you in?

m. s. : Every year, the Groupe Renault sales & marketing Department asks teams to self-assess maturity with reference to a set skills baseline for specific positions, using its Maturity Assessment system.

The existing package suffered from major shortcomings, since it required laborious input of documents in different formats, from different sources, as a lengthy preliminary to the development of workable action plans. so there was an urgent need for a new digital system capable of rigorous monitoring plus time-efficiency.

Renault-Nissan Consulting contacted Pocket Result looking for a platform that would give realtime self-assessment results plus an immediate action plan output.

Work started in late 2016 and a new digital system was set up following a dozen or so workshops with teams from Renault-Nissan Consulting and the Groupe Renault sales & marketing Department. Rollout proceeded from January to the end of april 2017, producing immediate assessment results and action plans. so far, the platform has generated more than 300 action plans.

m. s. : That’s right. We’re working on a similar project for assessing importer performance, as regards both function skills and revenue contribution.

how did it help to work alongside renault-nissan consulting?

m. s. : Well, this was the first time we’d worked with Groupe Renault, so the collaboration between our start-up and Renault-Nissan Consulting proved highly valuable.

For a start, it greatly facilitated the interfacing between our agile working modes and the classic cycles of a major industrial group, and that proved a key factor in successful project completion.

Then it also enabled us to get a full perspective on our solution and a firm grasp of the strategic challenges facing Groupe Renault.

The Maturity Assessment system opens the way to industrial-scale implementation of our business intelligence approach, for significant productivity gains. and work with Renault-Nissan Consulting also opens prospects for similar initiatives with other industrial groups.

Dealer network audits coordinated from Brazilfollowing the development of a new dealer network audit method, by the groupe renault Quality & customer satisfaction Department, the renault-nissan consulting office in Brazil has been tasked with coordinating new vehicle delivery quality audits across Brazil, argentina and colombia.

The aim is to obtain factual analysis of this customer experience keypoint across the Groupe Renault dealer network worldwide, as part of endeavours to ensure a quality customer experience from vehicle order through to the handover ceremony that closes the brand’s sale cycle.

The south american consultants on this mission were trained by experts from Renault-Nissan Consulting spain, using the I Do, We Do, you Do method under a wide-reaching skills transfer programme. The dealers covered by the audit so far now have a precise diagnosis enabling them to fine-tune the application of standards for improving customer satisfaction.

the lean manufacturing clubThe Lean manufacturing operational excellence club put together by Renault-Nissan Consulting in 2015 has 22 members today, all business leaders involved in implementing lean manufacturing and supply chain practices (company chairs, managing directors, global lean manufacturing directors, industrial operations directors, etc.).

The members meet four times a year to discuss strategies on implementation and operational rollout of lean manufacturing and supply-chain programmes.

Each in turn invites the others for a field visit to one of its production facilities.
