The Nation of Patriots Ride Normally the Nation of Patriots Ride has stops across the United States with groups of bikes escorting the flag to each stop. This year the decision was made to conduct a virtual transfer so to not endanger the volunteers. Each stop posted a video of the flag exchange. As the organizers watched the C-19 numbers stabilize, the decision was made to allow one rider to transport the flag.

On Monday, July 27th, the flag arrived in Waukon, escorted from Fennimore, Wisconsin by 5 bikes. Rick Laslo from Fairbanks received the flag at the stop. He and Johnathon Schumacker transported the flag to Waterloo where it was taken on the next leg to Ames.

The Nation of Patriots Flag relay is a fundraiser to help veterans who are underfunded through other means.

A Word from the Director July 30,2020

Well, I hope everyone is still safe and getting a few miles on. Even with the hot weather I’ve seen a lot of bikes out. I had the bike out on my first ride of the season last Monday. I rode with three friends down to Lake Rathbun and back. It felt great to be twisting the throttle again. I put 531 miles on that day. That is the latest I have ever waited to start my riding season. I had a lot of things on my plate this year and it took a while to work through them. Hopefully that never happens again. There isn’t a lot of news to cover. The Patriot Flag came and went. This was the 11th year of our Chapter’s participation. Many thanks to Rich Laslo for being our Flag Bearer this year. Hopefully Cindy has some pictures to share. The 80th annual Sturgis Rally is still on for this year. Rally dates are Aug 7th through 16th. There are numerous changes this year due to Covid-19. There will be no City sponsored events like Opening ceremonies, parades, contests or live music. Hand sanitizing stations will be placed all over the Rally

affected areas of the City. All business vendors and employees will be wearing masks and encouraging social distancing as much as possible. All bars and restaurants will be limiting occupancy and arranging seating to accommodate social distancing. Rally goers will be encouraged to social distance and follow CDC guidelines. I’m sure the attendance will be down from other years. Our HOG Chapter meetings and events are still on hold for this year. At this time I do not see that changing any time soon. I will be proposing that we carry over all paid memberships to next year since we did not get to experience any Chapter fun this year. I’m not sure when we will get to discuss and vote on it but that is my intention.

Without much going on, there isn’t a lot to talk about. If you go on any rides please take photos and share them with us. So in the meantime, have a great day and always remember; It’s never too late to be happy. But, no one is in charge of your happiness but you. Rubber to the Road It’s hard to keep an enthused biker down! Here are some adventures from our members.

The Cassville Ferry over the Mississippi seems to be a popular mode of travel. Riders often enjoy the

cooling spray on a hot day. Editor’s note: Watch the

waves on those chilly days!

Terry and Brad headed up to Rockton on their

“Chicken Run”. I’ll bet most of us can almost

smell that chicken.

Brad and Terry also made it to LeClaire to visit the home base of the Pickers.

Problem-solver Al, figures out a biker’s solution to using the drive through.
