Why Road Safety ? Some Pictorials
Why Road Safety?
Road Accidents World wide
• We lost approximately 1,200,000 lives every year.
• Every hour costs approximately 20 children lives.
• 50,000,000 people faced injuries & disabilities.
• Massive amount of budget is wasted.
• In 3rd World Countries Traffic Jam is becoming a routine
Four E’s of Road Safety
1. Engineering
2. Education
3. Equipment
4. Enforcement
• Construction of safe roads, bridges, under passes, fly-over, u-turns
• Proper marking of Lines Lanes/carriage way
• Installation of sign boards • Safe angle of inclination/ declination /curves
1-Engineering
Without proper and safe engineering no one can ensure road safety
Engineering faults may result in collapse
• Road safety education since childhood is necessary for the upcoming generation.
• Information regarding use of road for pedestrians, motorists is crucial
• Education through print / electronic media and web site for the current motorist
2-Education
Lack of education in road sense, driving skills may result in accident
Lack of Education may results like this
3-Equipment• Safety also depends upon how properly the road user is equipped in which equipment.
• If the motorist is well equipped i.e having all the necessary equipment then it definitely play a great role in the road safety.
• Equipment could be any thing like vehicle itself, tool box, wheels, jack, fire extinguisher, wipers, mirrors, lights, indicator, First Aid kit Hazard triangle/cones etc.
You could be in danger if you aren’t equipped in an appropriate equipment/vehicle
Flaw in equipment may cause incident
It may cause accident as well
• Strict enforcement and Implementation of law on equality basis plays a vital role in road safety
• This ensure smooth and unhindered flow of traffic and also it ensures the security of road users.
4-Enforcement
Equal application of law plays a vital role in ensuring road safety
Leniency in enforcement creates situation like this
Sometimes like it

Road Lines & Lanes?
•This Entire thing is Road
•White & Yellow Strips are Lines
•Area b/w Each White & Yellow Strip is Lane
Lane Lane Lane Lane Lane
No Lane change/ No Overtaking
Lane change/Overtaking is permitted
Road Markings(lines & lanes)

5 safe points for road crossing
Under Pass
Over head Bridge
Pelican Crossing
Zebra Crossing
Light Signals
• Stop at the edge of the road and observe the traffic.
• Keep your concentration focused towards the coming traffic.
• Always cross the road straight and use quick steps.
• Choose a bright (well lit) place in night time.
Road crossing technique when safe points aren’t available
• Road turnings.
