Vision zero - what is it?Vision Zero is our vision that nobody should be killed or seriously injured in traffic.

Vision Zero is both an ethical approach and a strategy to shape the safe road where nobody is killed or seriously injured.

It assumes that roads, streets and vehicles are more responsive to human needs, while people follow traffic rules.

The goal is achieved through a long-term, efficient and systematic traffic safety work. It is essential that the key players involved and cooperate in the work.

Systematic work

A Holistic ApproachSharing the Vision

Dare to ask: How many must die because of traffic? How many can we accept?

Systematic work

A good planning of the communication activities should follow the following steps:1. Situation Analysis

- identify the problem and analyze context - Identify stakeholders - Set goals

2. Plan3. Perform 4. Evaluate the effect

The way to zeroWork together towards Vision Zero is based on all players interact by:• exchange knowledge • coordinate our activities in road safety• work in a structured and systematic way.

Each player has the responsibility to plan and implement measures in its own operations.

The design will support Vision Zero - impossible to make the dramatic errors - enables to get it right.Accidents may occur but no one shall die for a mistake.

Engaging population. Create demand for road safety! Media!

Accessibility and safety in a sustainable society 2016 in Sweden• Vision Zero is accepted and established.• Road safety is a dimension of sustainable society• Road safety is a part of other processes• Road safety is a leadership topic

But the trend to zero is going too slowCompliance• Alcohol and drugs takes many lives - In 2015, 29 percent of all road

traffic fatalities were killed in alcohol or drug -related traffic accidents.• Speeding is still a problem.

Far to the target wounded• In the current situation we do not like to achieve the target for 2020.• Of all serious injuries in traffic is almost half cyclists• Heavy traffic

Vison Zero - New launch in 2016 1997-2009 one coordinator 2009-2016 “all together”2016 sept – one coordinator

The focus area;• Vulnerable road users• Heavy traffic• New users ( emigrants )• Alcohol and Compliance

To take into account:Safety and security both is just as important! In a sustainable transport system nobody gets killed and we all know that.

Urbanization - More share the same space. The speed will be crucial for the interaction. Road safety gives a human society!

Indicators - priorities

1. Speed compliance - national road network2. Speed compliance - municipal road network3. Sober traffic4. Seat belt use5. Helmet use - cyclists and moped riders6. Safe vehicles7. Safe motorcycles ( ABS)8. Safe state roads9. Secure pedestrian and cycel passages10.Maintenance of bicycle paths in urban areas

New speed limits in urban areas in Sweden

Design for 40 km / h

60 km / h (and 80 km / h) only if it can be well justified

20 km / h where many vulnerable road users are but car traffic is essential

Walking speed

Focus at uniform speed instead of maximum speed
