ROB WALKER PHOTOGRAPHS

The socially observant photographer Rob Walker required an identity on which to base his documentary / narrative photographic approach.

He specifically requested to not be pigeon-holed or to be made into a style, but simply asked me to find a solution to act as a platform for his diverse and ranging subject matter.

My concept of diversity and flexibility quickly developed into almost a brand image and turned into the title name; ‘Rob Walker Photographs.’

This combined with the empty view-finder, which is the visual identity, suggests that he is open to shoot whatever his client requires, and does not work with one subject alone.

To complete his professional identity I designed his stationery, the layout being dictated by the ‘frame’ and works by sticking to even borders.

To further promote his work, I suggested that he should have some simple promotional material to showcase his work to potential clients. He agreed and asked me to propose a few idea.

To regulary keep his current and potential clients up to date, I designed a quarterly look book, that had four projects in each. Releasing them seasonally provided structure and also allowed for a varied colour scheme throughout each year.

The layout is very simple, allowing maximal space for the photographs, while working on quite a small format. As his work is often about narrative, I was sure to consider the pace and order of the photographs in his projects. This implies that he feels passionately about the work he shoots, which I am sure he does.

As a cheaper solution, I proposed a mail out poster / showcase. He will most likely choose either this or the look books and not both, but he may well be swayed.

They are printed in high quality matt finish paper so as not to be scratched in transit. The fold reduces the A2 posters down to A5 by implementing a 4 x 2 fold, allowing for cheap postage.

He was very anxious about getting his work online, so I descided to put together a website proposal. He told me that he is profficient with Adobe Flash and would therefore be able to animate objects on the page.

With this in mind, I designed a simple 8 column website that would prioritise his work, again in the frame, that would have a simple holding page animation before revealing the full website.

His work scrolls side to side into the frame allowing the viewer to get a sense or narrative and experience the project in a suitable manner.
