Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for your support during the past half-term.

As a parent myself I really do appreciate how challenging it is to balance working commitments with home schooling and am therefore very grateful to you for all that you have been doing in

this respect.

I am hoping that the Government will provide us with good news during half-term about schools reopening on Monday 8th March. I am very keen for things to return to normal as soon as

possible!

Of course, we will have to wait and see what the Government says about the current national lockdown and I will write to you in due course about when and under what circumstances school

will reopen.

The school will be closed to all pupils next week (Monday 15th-Friday 19th February) and will reopen for vulnerable and keyworker children on Monday 22nd February. No online lessons will

take place during half-term, but your child may have homework tasks to complete.

I hope you enjoy reading this newsletter.

With very best wishes,

Russell Taylor

SOME EXCITING NEWS FROM THE ART DEPARTMENT

Year 12 student Fatoumatta took part in “Articulation” which is the Roche Court Educational Trust’s nationally acclaimed public speaking initiative designed to promote the appreciation and discussion of visual culture. It is on the 8th of February and she is the first student to represent Robert Clack School in this competition. She is extremely excited to be part online/live event.

On the 8th of February she presented and spoke on the online event against six other schools in the UK. She spoke very well and presented herself on behalf of the school exceptionally. Unfortunately, she did not make it to the final.

Following the online event, Miss O’Neill received an email from the ARTiculation prize event with the following email about Fatoumatta. “Thank you very much indeed for participating in this year’s online ARTiculation prize event! It was a privilege meet Fatoumatta, albeit digitally, and to hear her presentation.

Professor Dorothy Price thanked all speakers for having presented so brilliantly and for having shared their passion and enthusiasm so effectively, stated that she had learnt a great deal from all.

Professor Price praised Fatoumatta for introducing her (and many audience members!) to this amazing architect. She congratulated Fatoumatta for the originality of her choice and stated how much she had loved hearing her passion for sustainable living.

An Alumni badge and certificate will be sent to the school for Fatoumatta and an Art Fund National Art Pass will also be sent out in March.

We are so grateful to you for your ongoing support to the ARTiculation programme and look forward to welcoming Fatoumatta to the Alumni Network.”

In January, Year 7s entered a competition called The One Act Play designed by Ms Zuccaro.

Head of Drama Mr S D Butler made the final decision to award Emile in 7B Green Lane as the winner, and Shaima Serrar in 7B Lymington as runner up. Mr S D Butler made the following comments about the winning entry:

In The Death Book, Emile has created some fantastic dialogue and a gripping story set in a contemporary school. Even though I have no knowledge of anime or manga, I can see that they have really inspired Emile to create a story and characters that remind me of the very best Shakespearean tragedies. Congratulations!

THE BRILLIANT CLUB - SCHOLAR’S PROGRAMMECongratulations to 24 of our Year 12 pupils for successfully enrolling onto The Brilliant Club Scholars Programme.

They are undergoing weekly tutorials and being mentored by a current PhD student to work on an undergraduate style project in the STEM field. All of these pupils will be mentored just like they are at university in small seminar groups online and have the opportunity to have a first-hand experience in university-level work.

I look forward to updating you soon of their outcomes at the end of the programme!

MOBILE DATA EXTENSION

The DFE has partnered with a handful of mobile operators to provide extra mobile data for pupils having to hotspot their devices, for the purpose of remote learning. Several families have already signed up for this offer. In order to apply, please complete this form below.

The last few weeks have been challenging for us all. Remote earning presents a while new set of challenges to both pupils and teachers alike. Unfortunately, some pupils do not have devices and are unable to access their remote learning. The school has a finite number of devices that we have been distributing to pupils however, demand has been very high.

Scott Brimmel of Promise Promo, Ian Pittaway, Dave-Quan Campbell (8D) and Ballal Seddique have been extremely generous, donating laptops and funds to purchase them. These donations have provided the school with 14 additional devices, enabling pupils to receive an education. Thank you all very much for your contributions.
