Sundial Watches

The retrofitting of this turn-of-the-century Williamsburg factory into apartments provided some interesting opportunities for the design of the facade. Due to a zoning allowance, we were able to design a dramatic cantilever space on the roof, which is complemented by the void space found in the entry and lobby space on the ground floor. The back of the building opens up into a beautiful community courtyard space.

Located on the intersection of 4th Avenue and 15th St. in South Park Slope, this new residential tower will have commercial space on the ground floor, and wrap-around balconies facing Manhattan. The facade was designed by unfolding the building mass and combining structural, programmatic, and lighting requirements into a single drawing.

This church in Cobble Hill is being converted into luxury apartments. The basic idea is to maintain the church facade while modernizing the rear of the church which is less visible to the street.

Working directly under John H. Beyer, principal of Beyer Blinder Belle, I developed the schematic de-sign floorplans for the renovation of 346 Broadway AKA 108 Leonard St., which was originally known as the New York Life Insurance Building designed by McKim, Mead, and White. Tasks included sur-veying the site, translating hand sketches, annota-tions, floor area calculations, and preparing client presentations.

The scope of the interior design includes multiple custom displays for car rims, an entrance mural, an exhibition space, a coffee shop and client lounge area, and office space for employees. In addition to designing custom components, I researched and integrated lighting and material finishes for the clients. I worked directly with the architects to coordinate the design and scheduling of all interior elements.

This music video for the electronic musician Daedelus was shot entirely in the SCI-Arc Robot House. Using precise robotic motion and small LED lights, the robotic arms produce a series of dizzying stop-motion light animations.

1st Place Prize: 3 Concepts 1 E-Idea

This project conflates structure and ornament into an autonomous ambient space through the discrete modulation of a surface generated by cloth simulation software. The building is a library for illuminated manu-scripts, located in Graz, Austria.

This installation was built for an art collector in the Berkeley hills who wanted a sculptural centerpiece for their backyard. The central sculpture of folded steel erupts out of a field of intersecting surfaces to produce a pleated, draping effect I designed the project from concept to 3D modeling to digital fabrication and con-struction details. This project was featured in ArchDaily in 2008.

UC Berkeley Honors Studio, 2008This house is located in Noe Valley, San Francisco. The inverse-vaulted roof collects rainwater which is stored which is used for urban gardening on the terraced landscape below.. The program is designed along a continuous single surface that folds into itself tocreate an overlapping series of spaces.

I produced these sundial watches using a laser cutter and reclaimed belts. The watches tell time accurately and each one has a built-in compass to align the watch with North.
