Attendance Policy• Regular attendance is essential for the student

to make the most of their education.

• State compulsory attendance law requires that any student ages 16-19 attend school 90% of the time.

• Failure to comply with Compulsory Attendance will result in penalties by a court of law against both the student and parent. A complaint will be filed if: The student is absent ten or more days within a

six-month period. Is absent three or more days (or part days)

within a four-week period.

A+ Lab• The A+ Lab is a credit recovery option for

students who were not successful in one or more of their academic classes.

• After registering for an A+ class with their counselor, the student can make up the needed credit in the A+ lab before school, after school, during lunch or on Saturday.

• All finals for an A+ course must be taken on campus in the A+ lab

TranscriptA transcript is a record of academic

achievement. It contains all courses taken for high school credit, semester grades, rank, GPA (6 point and 4 point), graduation plan, test scores and demographic information.

Transcripts are updated after semester grades (January/June).

Students can obtain an official copy of their transcript at the registrar’s office for $1.

STAAR/EOCsState of Texas Assessment of

Academic Readiness (STAAR) or End of Course (EOC) are important tests you must take and pass before senior.

You must obtain a Level II score in English I (Reading and Writing), English II (Reading and Writing), Biology, Algebra I, and US History.

Texas Scholars• Recognition Program- an evening banquet

where all Texas Scholars are recognized for their service to the community and will be given special cords to be worn at graduation.

• GPA of 2.75 on 6.0

• Graduate on the Recommended or Distinguished plan

• Complete 20 hours of community service

• Service hours are due February of the senior year

Midland Legacy Scholarship

Student must:

• Graduate with a 2.75 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

• Complete at least forty (40) hours of community service at an approved agency. (Agency list may be found at www.midland.edu/legacy.)

• Start community service hours AFTER their junior year (this can be started the summer before the senior year).

• Turn in documentation of hours and application to the Financial Aid Office at Midland College beginning January 1st your senior year.

Tests… which one should I take?

• If you are planning on continuing your education, there are tests that most secondary institutions require:

• ACT/ SAT- for a 4-year college

• TSI - The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level

course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This program will also help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet the student's needs and to assist in becoming better prepared for college-level course work.

SAT TESTPREP BOOTCAMP

• Lee High School is hosting a special PSAT/SAT Test Prep Boot Camp in the auditorium Center, on Wednesday, October 9th from 8:30am to 3:00pm.

• This is an intensive 6-hour PSAT/SAT workshop designed to give your son or daughter effective test taking and time management strategies, to help boost their performance. September 30th is the final day of registration. The normal cost of this Boot Camp is $250.00. However, Lee High School is so committed to improving test scores that this workshop will be held during the school day for added convenience, and will be available to students for only $45! Materials include 2 books for each participant, including 26 practice tests with detailed answers and explanations, along with a strategy book to further complement your child’s learning.

• There are over 3000 colleges and universities in the United States.

• A student’s goal should be to determine which of these many colleges have the right characteristics and programs for them given their particular needs, skills and interests.

Fall of the Junior year

• - October 16- take PSAT (good practice and possibility of becoming a National Merit Semi-finalist). Juniors interested can see Mrs. Sanchez

(Bookkeeper), to register for the PSAT. Fee of $14. Oct 9th deadline to register.

• - Try to keep a journal/list of reflections on your experiences. This could be used later to help spark ideas for your personal statement. (College Resume)

• Take the SAT/ ACT (if you plan on attending a 4-year college).

University of Texas changes to admission criteria for

graduating class of 2010/2011 beyond

• Senate Bill 175 modified the top 10% automatic admission program

• Now, the University is to admit automatically enough students to fill 75% of available spaces set aside for Texas residents entering the freshman class.

• In other words… the automatic admission will change from admitting the top 10% automatically to admitting the top 8% automatically
