FROM THE OFFICE OF CAMPUS MINISTRY Nature is telling us we are in the season of change. Trees have gone from verdant green to blaz-ing red, yellow and gold and a chill kisses the once warm air. Here at Albertus we witness change as well. Freshmen no longer wonder where their classrooms are, students have settled into their schedules, winter uniforms are now the norm and many familiar activities are in full swing. On October 2

nd, over 40 Albertus students stood for the unborn at the Life Chain held in Nanuet

and we have been praying a decade of the rosary in our chapel each day of the month for the unborn and woman making decisions about their future. The Falcons 4 Life hosted author Sean Miller who spoke about his experiences as a pro-life advocate and his book, Full of Life. They also continue to meet bi-monthly to discuss pro-life issues and how they can be advocates in AM. Our popular Falcons 4 Life sweatshirt will go on sale in November. Our freshman class attended their retreat day at Stony Point Center accompanied by their junior and senior mentors. Our AM Preaching Team held a meeting and talked about activities for the year which will focus on social justice issues. Our young women continue to be actively involved in the Days for Girls project in which they make hygienic supply kits for girls their age in poor third world countries. The next Days for Girls will be November 15

th. Twenty-one members of the senior class participated in a

very successful Midnight Run on October 14th. Thanks to all who help support this project through gener-

ous donations. From October 27th-30

th, Mr. Power and Sr. Nancy accompanied 4 seniors and 2 juniors to the Ur-

ban Challenge in Camden, NJ. This project is run by Romero Center in Camden and both girls and chap-erones participated in service projects and exercises focusing on the plight of the poor in Camden. As one senior put it, “This was an awesome, eye-opening experience!” The group will meet again to discuss how they can put into action some of what they learned through this experience. Now we enter into November, the month when we reflect on our blessings and give thanks for what we have while looking out for our sisters and brothers in need. On November 1

st we kicked-off of our an-

nual food drive for those in need in Rockland County. This runs from November 1

st-15th. Last

year we provided 70 food baskets to local families and would love to provide food for 100 families this year. We have also placed our “Book of Memories” in chapel which contains the names of all of our beloved deceased whom we will include in prayer during this month of All Souls. We close out the month with our annual Grandparent’s/Thanksgiving Mass on November 23

rd.

May you and your family have a blessed

Thanksgiving and be assured that you are held

with gratitude for all that you do to support the

many facets of Campus Ministry.

Art News

On Halloween, the art classes and I said good bye to art education student

teacher Alysha Bartuneck, and sent her on to her elementary art placement. Aly-

sha started her student teaching at Albertus on the first day of school in Septem-

ber. It's hard to believe two months have passes since she walked in the door.

Alysha is a master’s student at St. Thomas Aquinas College. She is finishing her

art and special education certification this fall. She loved working with the Alber-

tus art students, and promises to come back to visit! We wish her the very best in

her future endeavors!

Science Class News

Albertus Magnus High School was a host site for the ‘Day in the Life of the Hudson River Estuary’ on Thursday, October 20th. “Day in the Life” school classes, from first grade to college, partner with environmental education centers to collect scientific data using hands-on field techniques to capture a snapshot of the river’s ecology at more than 80 sites from New York City to Albany. Armed with seine nets, minnow pots and water testing gear, thousands of students catch and release many of the Hudson’s 200-plus species of fish, track the river’s tides and currents, and examine water chemistry and quality. The data collected by students provides insights into an ecosystem spanning 160 miles of the Hudson River and New York Harbor and is posted online within a few days of the event.

Now in its 14th year, “Day in the Life” is sponsored by DEC’s Hudson River Estuary Program in partnership with the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University.

Beth Michaluk led her RCC Topics in Environmental Pollution Class along with chaperones Millie Men-delson and Margaret Mapelli. The following students participated: Rebecca Anaya, Taryn Appiah, Madison Bagatta, Sam Castricone, Isabelle Cavallo, Mairead Durkin, Barbara McEnaney, Ethan McGrath, Victoria Paciello, Meghan Reilly, Zak Rivera, Baylen Rodriguez, Edessa Salci, Kieran Scanlon, Charlotte Schumacher, Ryan Silverstein, Cody Sohalski, Benny Storms, Steven Tillette, Tyler Tillette, Samantha Weil.
