The contemporary brick wall is a lie. This design
emphasises the modern use of brick as a rainscreen,
while still respecting the adjacent buildings brick
texture. Instead of hiding the structure holding the brick
up, the grid is celebrated throughout the building. A steel
structure is used to reect the historic association with
Brimingham. The metal and glass panels serve to make
the building lively and inviting from inside and outside.Through cnc or laser cut fabrication, the perforations
vary to provide differing amounts of light in the spaces.
During the day the panels lter outside light, while at
night they lter it out. The metal happens between the
two buildings as if evolving from the more traditional
brick.
Red.
The metal and brick work together to create a unied
aesthetic. The large spaces are predominantly red to
create drama. The smaller spaces in the program feature
a lighter shade of red to be more calming. The brick and
metal are dened by their relationship to one another.
The specic color of red has a similar idea to Frank
Lloyd Wright's Cherokee Red to relate metal to bricks.
