Art mirrors the community. It reflects our values, aspirations and challenges.
The 33 projects funded by The Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation
in 2016 also reflect Greater Hartford’s extraordinarily rich cultural diversity. Each of the grants, ranging from $2,500 to $25,000, represents the foundation’s ongoing commitment to help local arts organizations thrive – even in the most challenging of environments.
The small music festival that celebrates the works of women composers. The award-winning theater company that reinvents Shakespeare. A weekend jazz festival that brings 70,000 enthusiasts to Bushnell Park. Arthur Miller’s Crucible re-envisioned as an opera. An international piano competition that launches the career of an eight year old Chopin prodigy. And a library that showcases the influences of our Hip Hop Nation. These are but a few of the significant arts programs funded by the Roberts Foundation – programs that contribute to the city’s vibrancy and makes the greater Hartford region not just a destination, but an ideal place to live, work and raise of family.

With AppreciationThe Edward C. & Ann T. Roberts Foundation wishes to acknowledge Jack Kennedy and R. Kelley Bonn who retired from the board in December after several years ofservice. Jack and Kelley were invaluable resources, and the foundation thanks themfor their commitment and significant contributions.
The foundation also extends its appreciation to Ron Lyles, Hartford Jazz Society board president, who completed his two-year term on the board as Arts Representative. In December, Freddie McInerney, Director of Marketing/Communications for TheaterWorks, assumed the Arts Representative role for a two-year term. The Roberts Foundation board created theArts Representative board position in 2000 to enable the foundation to benefit from the expertise of arts leaders who are currently working in the community.
