On Thursday, March 22nd, the death occurred of John Robinson of Poplar, one of the oldestpioneers of the island.Deceased was born on June 15, 1832 in the town of Cavan, County of Cavan, Ireland. He cameto this country when he was three years of age with his parents who settled at Tecumseh, Countyof Simcoe.

Forty-two years ago he came to Maniotulin and settled in the Township of Mills.

65 years ago he married Sarah Hayes in Tecumseh County and of the marriage (sic) there werethree children, two of whom are living. William Robinson and Mrs. Dinsmore, both of Poplar.His wife predeceased him sixteen years ago to the day.

Since the death of his wife he had lived with his daughter-in-law Mrs. Robinson.

He leaves to mourn him, beside his son and daughter, twelve grandchildren and fourteen greatgrandchildren.

Deceased was very well known and highly respected throughout the entire neighborhood, and alarge number of people attended the funeral service which took place on Friday, March 23 at thehome of Mrs. McFee, from which the body was takento the Poplar cemetery for interment.

During his long and active life, he had always been a staunch churchman and had done all inhis power to forward church work.The funeral ceremony was conducted by Rev. W.T. Swainson.

We hear with deep regret the passing of Mrs. William Robinson of Mills Township.

Mrs. Robinson was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ainslie and was united in marriageto William Robinson of Mills Township in 1887. After marriage they moved to Shrigley Bay,where Mr. Robinson operated a saw mil and with his helpful wife was very successful. In 190?they moved to a farm in Mills and after a number of years they retired and built a comfortablehome at Mills corner and kept a store.

Mrs. Robinson's health began to fail her more than a year ago and although bedfast for morethan three months before God called her home she was always bright and cheery and alwayshad a smile for her many friends who came to comfort here.

She was an esteemed member of the United Church and was a life member of the mills W.I. tillher health failed and was always a willing worker.

The service was conducted by Rev. J. J. Matthais, a short service at the house, after which thebody was taken to the church where a service was held. Mrs. Robinson was laid to rest in Millscemetery.

She is survived by her sorrow stricken husband; her three daughters and two sons: namely: Mrs.Bell, Trenton; Mrs. Bowser, Nestorville; and Mrs. Weston, New Jersey; Jack and Harvey in Millsand her only sister Mrs. Jim Proctor, Gordon. The pall bearers were: Everett and Martin Proctor,Frank Currie, Bill Thompson, Harvey Beck, and Sidney Dinsmore. Wreaths and sprays fromFamily, Martin and Everett Proctor, Mrs. Jos. Beloved daughter of the late William Williton andEva Johnston of Cockburn Island. Cherished mother of Marion Van Horn (the late Arthur Langtonand the Late Osburn) of Toronto, Clifford and Cindy (the late Thelma) of Woodstock, Alvin (Bev)of Richmond Hill, Eunice Muir (the late Raymond of Barrie, Betty Munson (the late Jack) ofAngus, Michael (Gaye) of Coquitlam, BC, and Garry (Sarah) of West Saanich, BC. Predeceasedby daughters Marlene Williams (Dalton) and Alice, and by sisters Sadie, Ethel, Nellie, Jean,Marion, Lina, and by brothers Lyman and Bernard. Survived by sister Ruth Skippen of Espanola.Fondly remembered by 16 grandchildren and numerous greatgrandchildren andgreat-greatgrandchildren. Alice Grace married Harvey in 1923 and the couple lived onCockburn Island and in Poplar and Gore Bay on Manitoulin Island, where they farmed until1949 when they moved to Angus and opened a restaurant. After retirement, Alice Grace andHarvey moved to Iron Bridge, ON before returning to Angus in 1983, where she maintained aresidence until her passing. Besides her family, Alice Grace was passionate about cooking,baking and sewing. She was a member of Angus United Church for more than a half-century,where she took an active role in Sunday School and CGIT for many years. ROBINSON, Clifford Manley, DFM - A hero has gone to Heaven. The family of CliffordRobinson, aka Grandpa, is saddened to see him go. Clifford died at home in Wilberforce onSaturday, September 12, 2015. He was born on Cockburn Island, June 9, 1925, joined the RCAFin April 1943, at the ripe old age of 17, trained as an air gunner at Quebec City and Mont-Jolie,Quebec and was posted overseas just after Christmas in 1943. From then until May 9, 1945 heflew 53 missions as a tail gunner, earning the Distinguished Flying Medal for conspicuousbravery. He returned to Canada in time to celebrate his 20th birthday in Montreal. He re-enlistedin 1952 and served his country until he retired from the Air Force in 1959. Never one to sitback, he farmed in Northern Ontario, teaching as well, later moving to the Norwich area wherehe taught at Maple Dell Mennonite school. The need for new challenges led him to the OxfordRegional Centre where he became an RNA, working with people with exceptionalities. He thenbecame a stationary engineer at ORC and retired in 1987. In his retirement, he travelled, all overNorth America and to The UK, Cuba, Australia and New Zealand. He was pre-deceased by hisparents, Harvey and Alice Grace (Williton), his brother Alvin, his sisters, Marlene Williams, BettyMunson and Alice and his daughter, Lorraine Young. He is survived by his children, Brenda(Gerry Showan) of Thessalon, ON, David (Sheila) of Wilberforce, ON, Alice (Graham) Dow ofWoodstock, ON and Laura of London, ON and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren andone great-great-grandchild, his sisters Eunice Muir of Barrie and Marion VanHorne of Torontoand his brothers, Michael (Gaye) of Burnaby BC and Gary (Ann) of Sooke, BC. A service for theinterment of ashes will be held at the Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy 2, west ofWoodstock, ON starting at 1:45 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015, luncheon to follow at The
