Making the Robot Blocks1. Sew together two 2” Fabric E squares, two 2” x 2-1/2” Fabric C pieces, and one 2” x 5-1/2” Fabric C pieces to make an eye strip.
2. Sew 1-3/4” x 4-1/2” Fabric C strips to opposite short sides of a 4-1/2” x 10” Fabric D piece to make the mouth. Sew together three 1-1/2” x 12-1/2” Fabric C pieces, the eye strip and the mouth strip in the order shown to make the robot face.
3. Sew one 2” Fabric A square and one 2” x 3” Fabric A piece to opposite ends of one 2” x 5” Fabric B piece to make the inner ear bolt. Sew one 1-1/2” x 3” Fabric A piece and one 1-1/2” x 4” Fabric A piece to opposite ends of one 1-1/2” x 3” Fabric D piece to make the outer ear bolt. Join one 4” x 9” Fabric A piece and the outer and inner ear bolts to make the left side bolt. Make a mirror image right side bolt.
4. Sew two 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” Fabric A pieces length-wise to opposite sides of one 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” Fabric D piece. Sew one 2“ x 3-1/2” B piece to the bottom. Sew 4” x 11” Fabric A pieces to opposite sides to complete the robot top.

5. Join the robot face, the left and right side bolt and the robot top sections to complete the robot head.
6. Sew one 1-1/2” x 2” Fabric A piece to one 1-1/2” x 4-1/2” Fabric B piece to make an arm section. Sew one 2-1/2” Fabric B square to one 2-1/2” x 4” Fabric A piece to make the second arm section. Sew together the two arm sections with a 1-1/2” x 6” Fabric A piece to complete the left robot arm section.
7. Sew one 1-1/2” Fabric A square between two 1-1/2” Fabric C squares. Sew one 2-1/2” x 3-1/2” Fabric C piece to the top edge and one 1-1/2” x 3-1/2” Fabric A piece to the right side to complete the hand section.
8. Sew together one 1-1/2” x 4-1/2” Fabric A piece, the arm section, the hand section, and one 4-1/2” x 9” Fabric A piece to complete the left arm. Repat steps 6 and 7 to make a mirror image right arm.
9. Draw a line on the wrong side of two 2-1/2” Fabric A squares. Place a marked square on one end of a 2-1/2“ x 8-1/2” Fabric B piece. Stitch on the drawn line, trim seam allowance to 1/4“, and press open. Repeat on the opposite end to create the robot foot.
10. Sew 1-1/2” x 2-1/2“ Fabric A pieces to opposite sides of one 1-1/2” x 4-1/2“ Fabric D piece. Make two. Sew 1-1/2” x 2“ Fabric A pieces to opposite sides of one 1-1/2” x 5-1/2“ Fabric B piece. Sew together the two A/D strips, one A/B strip, robot foot, and one 1-1/2” x 8-1/2“ Fabric C strip to create a robot leg. Make two.
11. Join the two robot legs together and sew to one long edge of a 12-1/2” x 16-1/2” Fabric F piece. Sew the left arm to the left side and the right arm to the right side. Sew the robot head to the top to complete the red robot block. Square block to measure 24-1/2” x 30-1/2”.
12. Referring to the block digrams on p. 5 for color placement, make three additional robot blocks: one light blue/dark blue, one purple/green, and one light green/dark green.

Making the Sashing1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of four 1-1/4” Fabric A squares. Place a marked square right sides together on one corner of a 2-1/2” Fabric D square. Stitch on the marked line, trim seam allowance to 1/4”, and press open. Repeat on remaining three corners to make a square-in-a-square unit.
2. Sew one 1-1/2” Fabric A square to one 1-1/2” Fabric D square. Sew one 1-1/2” x 2-1/2” Fabric D piece to the top. Make two corner units. Make two corner mirror image units. Square each to 2-1/2”.
3. Lay out one square-in-a-square unit, two corner units, two mirror image corner units, and four 2-1/2” Fabric A squares into three rows of three each. Sew the units together into rows and join the rows to complete a sashing square. Make a total of nine sashing squares.
4. Sew one 1-7/8” x 24-1/2” Fabric E strip and one 1-7/8” x 24-1/2” Fabric H strip to opposite sides of one 3-3/4” x 24-1/2” N strip to make one horizontal sashing strip. In the same way, make one E/N/H 30-1/2” long vertical sashing strip.
5. In the same way, make one 24-1/2” horizontal and one 30-1/2” vertical sashing strip using the following combinations:
E/N/LE/N/CE/N/J
6. In the same way, make one 24-1/2” horizontal sashing strip using the following combinations:
H/N/CL/N/J
7. In the same way, make one 30-1/2” vertical sashing strip using the following combinations:
H/N/LC/N/J

Assembling the Quilt1. Lay out the four robot blocks, the sashing squares, and the horizontal and vertical sashing strips as shown. Sew the units together into rows and join the rows to complete the quilt top.
2. Sew eight 3-1/2” x WOF strips short ends together into a long strip. Cut two 78-1/2“ and two 66-1/2” lengths. Sew the 3-1/2” x 78-1/2“ Fabric G
strips to opposite long sides of the quilt. Sew 3-1/2” Fabric C squares to both ends of the shorter strips and then sew to the top and bottom of the quilt.
FinishingLay the backing right side down, batting, and quilt top right side up. Baste the layers together and quilt as desired. Use the eight 2-1/4” x 42” Fabric O strips to bind the quilt.
