ROCK MY FANZINE Rock my fanzine is a project from Gil Guerra aka Ligone that attempts to show a little bit of his world where strange creatures, zombies and horrific mutations full of tattoos abound, while some of his ideas and thoughts through typography and illustration. This project aims to have thematic issues and involve other artists in collaborations so the project can grow and develop without losing its basic characteristics. He does not seek profit but to be self-sufficient, so create enough profit to make it possible to launch the next issue. In this issue the theme is “oil wars” and the artists that made it possible are Gil Guerra (Ligone), Mark Goss (Mass), Michiel van der Born, Dzia and Gert Vg.

OIL WARS “The first casualty when war comes is truth.” Hiram Johnston.

In this time of seemingly perpetual war, finding the truth among the complex web of lies and propaganda can be a complicated task, especially for the majority of the population who gain most of their information throuh the mainstream media. But a basic truth is that most wars are power struggles, and the catchphrases of politicians such as “war on terror”, “axis of evil”, and “regime change” are simply a way of persuading the public that these wars are moral and justified.

“He who controls the middle east controls the world.” Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The natural resources of the middle east have been the ultimate prize for those attempting to control the world for a long time, and as the worlds dependence on oil has increased, the oilfields have become battle fields. These wars are not being fouht for freedom or democracy, but simply for oil, and protecting the interests of a powerful elite.

GIL GUERRA

Gil Guerra aka LIGONE was born in the coastal city of Setúbal in 1985, among fishes and fishermen. Soon he started scrabling and drawing, stumbling on graffiti at the age of 13 and on street art at the age of 18, inspired by the posters, stickers and stencils of Lisbon and Barcelona. In 2006 his vespa scooter took him to the city of Caldas da Rainha to study Graphic Design, where draw met vectorial. After he concluded his Degree he left to Gent where he stayed for 6 months. There he had the opportunity to work with Glossy, one of the most well known studios of design in Belgium doing an internship. Lately he has been collaborating with the Artistic Collective Gentuza, from Gent, what has revealed to be an enriching experience. In his imaginary world of little stylized creatures, the challenge is now to explore different materials, techniques and platforms.

MARK GOSS Mark Goss is a British illustrator and artist now living and working in Belgium. After graduating with a degree in graphic design Mark moved in a slightly different direction to pursue illustration and his own personal artwork, where he uses his experiences and the environment surrounding them to inspire the outcome. His work is informed stylistically by various elements born from lowbrow subcultures, tattooing and skate graphics being the most obviously present, along with a history in graffiti. A love for craftsmanship and traditional techniques also has an equally important impact on his work, especially in the signature bold lined style his chosen images are rendered.

DZIA

Dzia is a Belgian artist and something of an enigma in the Antwerp area. A fine artist in every sense, the creations of Dzia range from paintings, through sculpture to taxidermy and street works and among other things he is also creator of copyzine KRANK.That question has been whispered around the city Antwerp ever since a long skinny crazy KRANK following man got up on the scene of street-art ...unrehearsed and without any material he took and cultivated the streets, colonised the city and made his own playground,... it is more then just art, its something you will feel and see...it is raw emotion at its best and worst.
