from my youth. So I went and put the Monkees back together.

LN: You brought talent forward and let people remember what they loved about some of the great acts.

David: In 1986, while producing the Monkees’ tour, I worked on the 7th floor of 1775 Broadway in NYC, and unbeknownst to me, on the 8th and 9th floor was a fledgling network called MTV. I’d ride up and down the elevators with Tom Freston and Bob Pittman, who ran the network. One day I ran upstairs and said to Bob, “I just signed the Monkees,” and he said, “We’re going to air their television show 24 hours a day -- let’s work to-gether.” So we did and that wound up being an incredible success.

LN: Collaborating with MTV during their earliest days – what a coup!

David: It was, and soon they found-ed VH1, and several comeback tours followed.

LN: I love this quote of yours, “Creativ-ity is the key to business. You must be able to come up with ideas and imple-ment and execute effectively in order to succeed.”

David: It’s been my philosophy throughout my career.

LN: It seems you’ve been most inter-ested in showcasing and supporting talent. Now, with Rock ‘N Roll Fanta-sy Camp, you help every day people discover and express the talent inside of them, and they have the chance to perform with musicians who are their heroes. It’s a wonderful thing.

David: Well Rock ‘N Roll Fantasy Camp is my “give-back” to what the entertainment industry has afforded me.

LN: How so?

DAVID: I’ve spent my career around so many talented people -- for 15 years

I was on tour with Ringo and the All Star Band, and I saw firsthand why rock stars belong on that stage – what makes them so special. Every day people would ask me, “What’s this musician like, what’s that musician like?” I wanted to share it with the public. So I decided to create Rock ‘N Roll Fantasy Camp as a way for people to meet these musicians, play with them, and discover something bigger inside themselves.

LN: David I’ve known you since you did the Process. I’ve seen you change in amazing ways - constantly moving toward greater experiences of light and love, both personally and profes-

sionally. Over the years I’ve seen you act with courage. How did you finally decide to leave the business of being an agent?

David: In my early days as an agent I genuinely wanted to help people, but in time it became about “SHOW ME THE MONEY!” I used to think ‘the minute I make a million dollars I’m going to be the happiest person in the world.’ But when I made a million dollars I was miserable. Through the Process I found that money is not the only thing in life and slowly I had to own up to the fact that I wanted to leave the business and that a part of me felt “it’s not in my blood anymore.”

LN: Was there fear in leaving?

David: Yes. My parents were holocaust survivors – my father lived in a con-centration camp in Auschwitz and he had everything taken from him. The message during my childhood was ‘be a success -- make money so you’re not stuck.’ I was praised at home when I made a deal, and that to me was love. I was raised Orthodox and I still practice the Orthodox religion. My son-in-law’s a rabbi, my brother’s a rabbi and my father was a cantor. One day my brother, the rabbi, called and said, “Listen, you do this Rock ‘N Roll Camp better than anybody and you love it…why don’t you just do it

already?” I said OK, and that was that.

LN: How did you go about creating Rock ‘N Roll Fantasy Camp?

David: Ten years ago I called Nils Lof-gren and Clarence Clemons from Bruce Springsteen’s band, who both played on my tours, to ask if they’d be will-ing to appear at a Rock ‘N Roll Fantasy Camp, and they said “yes, let’s do it!!” So I did my first Camp with 25 people and the response was amazing. Now ten years later we host several Camps a year, in NY, Las Vegas, Hollywood and in the UK (at Abbey Road studios!) with more locations coming soon.

To exist is to change, to change is to mature, to mature is to go on creating oneself endlessly

-Henri L. Bergson

In the fall of 2005, Erik Larson wasn’t looking to change his life. He was

a successful CPA living in Aspen Colorado with his wife and two young children. But in October of that year, Erik was served with divorce papers, and ready or not, change had landed.

Fortunately for Erik, some of his friends were Process graduates. One in particular, Lloyd Herman, suggested the Process, but as the son of a Lutheran minister, Erik saw religion and spirituality as one and the same, and “more religion was the last thing I needed.”

After doing enough research to squelch his skepticism, Erik partici-pated in the Process in November 2005 just after his 40th birthday. As he de-scribes it, “everything changed for the better.”

When asked to describe himself

Erik Larson

Graduate Erik Larson with Luke, 6, and Anja, 8

before the Process, Erik tosses out words like “angry, conservative, Type A, and reactionary,” all hard to fath-om when you meet the warm, loving, free thinking man he is today. “A few days into my Process, two people com-mented that they’d been afraid to talk to me because I had an angry scowl on my face. That helped me know how far ahead my dark side was.”

At the Process Erik connected with his own compassion, authenticity and love and he realized that more than anything, he wanted to be a great parent. “The connection I have with

my kids now is something I didn’t think was possible,” says Erik about Luke, 6, and Anja, 8. “My kids call the Process ‘better mommy and daddy school’ and they actually get excited when I go back (for a Q2), because that translates for them into “We’ll have more daddy.”

The Hoffman community is a big part of Erik’s life. He facilitates the Aspen graduate gatherings, which encompass the Roaring Fork Valley. The group has well over 40 graduates, many of whom attend the monthly meetings. He also has a great knack for guiding people to the Process; in two years 50 people have enrolled at Erik’s recommenda-tion. “People see the changes in me and they want what I have. It’s the furthest thing from a hard sell…”

“I’ve taken my life to an entirely new level since the Process. As I tell everyone who will listen, “it’s the greatest gift I’ve ever given myself. My life’s not perfect, but now I’ve got the tools I need to respond to any of life’s challenges.”

LN: What aspects of your Process do you bring to your work?

David: The Process changed my attitude towards the music business and taught me about giving back. When I commit-ted to do Rock ‘N Roll Fantasy Camp, I decided to take much of what I learned at the Process and incorporate it. I noticed that the more of the sensibility of Process I put into it --- joy, connection, risk-taking, community, and so on --- the more people would say, “this experience is life-changing.”

LN: How did the Process change you personally?

DAVID: The Process gave me permission to come out of my shell, to know that there’s this beautiful person inside with great passion for life. Before the Process I surrounded myself with stars and I hid behind them. I took care of ev-erybody else but not myself. I hurt my marriages, my re-lationships with my children and my mother, because I let the industry take over my life. It’s an industry where it’s easy to forget your purpose and you start to think you’re invincible. Thank God I didn’t turn to drugs or alcohol, but I did turn to ego. Every day of my life I think of the Process. I direct people to the website every day.

LN: In light of your personal growth, it seems perfect that Continued on page 10

If you are a Process graduate, par-ticularly one who received a partial

scholarship, you might consider Pay-ing it Forward; making a donation to the Scholarship Fund, which gives others with financial constraints the chance to experience the Process.

The Scholarship Fund provides over $400,000 in partial scholarships annu-ally, ranging from $50 to $1,200.

If you know someone with a strong desire to take the Process, but who lacks financial resources, encourage them to apply. According to HQP graduate and scholarship recipient Marisa Lopez, “I’ve learned that love has no price tag, but we pay a great price for living a

loveless life. Thanks to my scholarship, I was able to stop focusing on the price tag and start loving myself instead.”

We raise money (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)(3) from Foundation grants and through the extraordinary generosity of you, Hoffman graduates.

Requests for scholarships are evalu-ated based on financial need, followed by one’s readiness to take advantage of the Process. Scholarship applications are reviewed on a first come, first serve basis, and once funds for a specific Pro-cess are allotted, no more are available for that course. For that reason, we en-courage people to apply early.

The Q2 Graduate Intensive is a place to make changes. It provides the

opportunity to get focused and delve into specific areas in your life that you want to transform.

In late 2005, a year after my Process, I was single, healing, and ready to lay my heart into somebody’s hand. So I set my intention and imagined myself in a mutually respectful, joyful relation-ship with a man who loved me, who I loved back.

Two weeks later I met him. He was gentle, intelligent, handsome and fun-ny. And to top it off, shortly after we began dating he said, “I know I want to marry you. I’ve known it from the moment I saw you, but I don’t want to scare you.”It was amazing – here was EXACTLY

what I wanted! Then my patterns kicked in and I WAS scared. I started to feel uncomfortable and soon the vi-brant, accepting woman he loved be-gan to disappear. I felt it happen, but the reactions came up in me faster than I knew how to stop them. I wanted this relationship, but I couldn’t accept it. My patterns had me wrestled to the mat under a cacophony of negative voices.

And then I heard it, quietly and un-ceasingly, the clear voice of Spirit that had guided me to this point. It said, “I don’t know where this relationship will or will not go, but I’m not going to screw it up because of patterns.” I signed up for the Q2, completing the homework assignment telling the deepest truths I knew. I pre-coached with a teacher, mapped out patterns and set my Q2 in-

Q2 Graduate Intensive, A Personal Journeytention. Then I bashed, dialoged and recycled my heart out for three days!

When the Q2 ended I drove straight to his house. He had roses waiting, in case I stopped by. When I arrived, he looked into my face, now free of so many recently bashed patterns and said, “Wow, so here you are.” Five months later he proposed. We’ve been married for eight months now, and the relationship continues to grow. For me, that Q2 was pivotal to creating what we have now.

Through a wonderful turn of events, I now manage the Q2 for the Hoffman Institute. I invite you to look at the ar-eas in your life where you recognize a chorus of negative voices and you want to make palpable change, and pick a Q2 date. Then call us. We’ll set you up, and see you at registration.

Register online at www.hoffmaninstitute.org, and click “Graduate Programs and News,” or call 800/506-5253. Tuition is $1,150 with a $250 non-refundable/non-transferable deposit.

Please register early – most Q2s fill quickly.

you went from promoting celebrities to celebrating people.

David: There’s joy in this work on sev-eral levels. In watching the corporate executive who thought he was running the show come to camp and learn “Hey, if I’m go-ing to be in a band I’ve got to listen to the bass player, the guitar player, the keyboard player.” I’ve noticed that business success can breed the no-tion “it’s all about me.” I try to give our campers what I got at the Process, which is the notion that it’s not only about me, and that when you give, good things hap-pen.

LN: Were you surprised that so many great rockers love participating in the Camps?

David: That was the turning point for the business. When Roger Daltrey came back for his fourth Camp, when Vince Neal come back for a second Camp and Paul Stanley of KISS came back for his second, I saw that the Camp takes them back to their roots, it reminds them of the hunger they had, and why they got into music in the first place. At the Camp they meet people who just want to write a song and play with them; that’s the attraction for them….the joy of music.

LN: That kind of experience opens the passion and creativity that’s inside ev-ery person.

David: That’s what the Process did for me; it took me back to a time before I had all the hurt in me, and it showed me who I really am, and what was tru-ly inside of me.

LN: In the Process we say that when you make a commitment to yourself, to your own spirit, the world moves to support you. Once you made this choice, with the guidance of your brother, who’s a rabbi, so it was a spiri-

tual choice, the world organized itself and you found great support, interest and excitement around it.

David: It’s true, and now Raz, I’ve got the second greatest job in the world

-- next to you. The gratitude I see ev-ery day, and how we change people’s lives…is wonderful.

LN: You can see it in people’s eyes when they break through barriers and discover things about themselves they couldn’t even imagine.

David: Whether you’re the president

of a company, a lawyer, a doctor, or an 18-year-old vocalist, when you come to this Camp you find something new about yourself.

LN: Tell me about the corporations that are creating their own rock bands.

David: That idea came from the campers; executives who attended the Camp. They said, “this is an amazing team-building ex-perience. It would be great if you could bring this to my company and help us put a band together…” So we created a corporate division where we do corporate par-ties and seminars on team building. We pull talent from

within the company, put them into bands and they perform at the show on the final night. People have fun and get really excited about it.

LN: What else do you have in store for the Camps?

David: This summer we’re doing a Tour of America of one-day Camps. The regular Camp is expensive and time consuming, so I’ve created the one-day Camp in which campers will come in one day, attend the Camp and then open for a major rock star at House of Blues in the evening.

LN: David I’ve seen your Camps first hand and I know you’ve created an amazing and transformative experi-ence for people. I wish you every suc-cess in the world.

David: Raz, I have to thank the Pro-cess. If I hadn’t found this sensibility and understanding of another person, if I hadn’t been given the opportu-nity to see what I’m really made of, I couldn’t have created the Camp. Now every manager in rock and roll comes to me and says, “You know Fishof, if I would have thought of it first I’d be doing it!” And I tell them, “Just go to

Ginger BuckleyteACHer feAture

Ginger Buckley was born in 1949, to Mary and Peter Wright of Bank

Street in Greenwich Village. When she was nine months old, her father drove the family north, in search of a more ap-propriate place to raise a family. They settled in Rhinebeck, NY, a lovely vil-lage on the Hudson River surrounded by acres of forest, streams, and lakes.

Ginger played a big role in rearing her five younger siblings, so much so that by the age of 12 she knew she wanted to be a ‘free woman’ and not a mother! She was raised Catholic and attended Catholic schools so religion, prayer and spirituality were important in her early years. Nature was another one of her teachers. In the midst of the chaos inherent in a large family, she found peace by spending time reflect-ing in nature’s calm.

From a young age, Ginger’s father encouraged her to be self-reliant and a free thinker, and her mother, by ex-ample, taught her to love nature and spirituality. This combination instilled in Ginger a quest for truth, freedom, and adventure! Many times in her life she would surrender comfort for quest, venturing out from the known to travel towards the unknown.

After graduating from college, Gin-

ger taught elementary school, got mar-ried, and earned her graduate degree. Then she left for India to follow a spiri-tual path. She first heard of the Hoff-man Process in a most unlikely time and place. While entering the gates of an ashram in India, she met fellow New Yorkers, and when she asked what they did, they said they were Hoffman teachers!

Another of Ginger’s adventures took root when she returned to the “world” after many years of ashram living. She met her husband Cheshta in 1984, and after buying a home in Marin County, California, they were called to join friends for a Trans-Pacific cruise on their 38 ft. sloop, the “Wendy

Ann.” Setting-sail in 1990, they cruised through the small islands of the Pacific for more than two years, covering 8,000 (often terrifying) miles.

After returning from their sail, first Cheshta, then Ginger did the Pro-cess. In 2000 Ginger was certified as a Process teacher and it was an answer to her prayers; finding fulfilling and meaningful work was part of her life-long vision.

Continuing on her quest, Ginger re-cently graduated from the ‘Claritas In-stitute of Inter-spiritual Mentoring and Inquiry,’ started by Joan Borysenko (who Ginger lovingly calls her “soul sister”), Joan’s husband Gordie, and Janet Quinn. “The Claritas Program helped me deepen my spiritual prac-tice, improve my listening skills, and connected me to a community dedicat-ed to bringing deep peace to the planet by way of spiritual guidance and men-toring.” Ginger now serves as both a Process teacher and a spiritual mentor to those who are called to deepen their spiritual connection.

Ginger and Cheshta make their home on Cape Cod, closer to her fam-ily. While there she bird-watches, sails, swims and basks in the mystery, beauty and natural peace of the island.
