First Verse, First Line

• “Rock of ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee;”

• Jesus is the Rock to Whom we must flee for help. Exodus 33:13-23; Colossians 3:3

• In His greatest hours of trial, Jesus went to the Father in prayer. John 17; Matthew 26:36-46– Today we should go to the Rock! Phil. 4:13,19

– We should also build our life on the Rock!

First Verse, Last Part• “Let the water and the blood, From Thy

riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r.”

• Blood and water flowed from Jesus at Calvary!

John 19:33-34

• Jesus sacrifice for us is of sin the double cure.

Titus 2:14– It’s able to both forgive us of sin and break us

free from sin’s power! Matthew 26:28; Romans 6:7-9, 23

Second Verse

• “Not the labor of my hands, Can fulfill the Laws demands;”

• Jesus is the only sinless man. 1 Peter 2:22

• We could never do enough good on our own to atone for our sins! Titus 3:4-8

• We must look to Jesus’ grace to save us. Ephesians 1:7

Second Verse, Last Part• “Could my zeal no respite know, Could my

tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone, Thou must save and Thou alone.”

• All of our zeal and tears could not amount to anything. Jesus alone is the hope for salvation. Eph. 2:12; Acts 4:10,12; Heb.10:1ff

• We still must do all Jesus commands.

Matthew 28:20; John 12:48; Hebrews 5:9– Keep in mind, we must keep the humble servant

attitude as we follow Jesus. Luke 17:10

Third Verse, First Line

• Nothing in my hand I bring: Simply to Thy cross I cling;

• We must realize the all-sufficient sacrifice of Jesus. Hebrews 7:27; 9:12; 10:10

• Total submission to God is required.– It’s what we must know 1 Cor. 2:2; 1 Jn. 4:19

• Must love Him with our all… Mark 12:30

– We simply cling to Him from Whom all blessings flow. Deut. 30:19-20; Eph. 1:3

Third Verse, Second Line• “Naked come to Thee for dress; Helpless,

look to Thee for grace;”

• Without Jesus we are naked, without proper clothing! Rev. 3:17-20 – We must put on Christ, Tender mercies, Whole

Armor of God, etc. Gal. 3:27; Col. 3:12; Eph. 6:10-ff

– In Him we find grace, riches, and promises without end! 2 Cor. 8:9; 1 John 2:25

– Thus, let us always look unto Jesus! Heb. 12:2

Third Verse, Third Line

• “Vile, I to the fountain fly: Wash me, Savior, or I die.”

• God hates sin. Prov. 6:16; 1 Jn. 3:4• Sin separates us from God. Rom.3:23; Is.59:2• We are vile. Sin is a reproach to any people.

Proverbs 14:34• Jesus is the fountain of living waters though

which we may be washed of our sins.

Will You Come To The Rock Of Ages Today?

• He’s knocking at your door!

• Will you answer Him? Open the door of your heart and let Him inside.

• How do I come to Jesus?– Hear and believe Rom. 10:10, 17

– Repent of the sinful life Acts 2:38

– Confess your belief in Jesus Acts 8:37

– Be baptized Acts 22:16

– Then, Be faithful to Jesus Rev. 2:10
