Business Lead FocusAn Interview on a Company or Event thats helping to Shape the Small Business

Environment

The old melds with the new, as a fresh breath of innovation and ownership sweeps through downtown Huntsville. As Huntsville and Madison draw in new businesses from all over the country, companies like Curse and Remington, and still more businesses grow from the fertile soil of innova-tion, dedication, energy, ambition and competition, Downtown Huntsville calls together a talented team called Downtown Huntsville Inc. Located on Wilson Street, the office is easy to walk and drive by, hidden within the offices with the simple green sign on the door is a creative team of dedi-cated individuals. Leading the team is Chad Emerson as CEO, a former professor of Law at Thomas Goode Jones School of Law and Director of City Development for City of Montgomery. Drawn to Huntsville by its building potential and its high ceiling for success combined with great ex-isting assets and existing plans for development, Emerson and his team are working to reintroduce Huntsvilleans to Downtown. Amy Jones, in charge of Special Events, has over 15 years of marketing in Huntsville ranging across the board from public relations and special events in the corporate, retail and non-profit worlds. Katelyn Sides, Director of Communications, may be fresh from Auburn University in Spring 2014, but with a degree in public relations and an ongoing commitment from years of working with non profits including the United Way of Cullman County great things are on the way as she learns and grows with the community. Laura Howard, Director of Membership and Finance, who rounds out the leadership team, comes from an extensive background in marketing, selling and business development as she builds Downtown Huntsville.

With new businesses starting almost every month ranging in fields from

internet technologies, energy concepts and biological technologies to a fast growing arts, food and craft brew communities, Emerson and his team are pushing their skills as they work to increase residential, office and re-tail opportunities all around Downtown. Emerson and his team does, this with fresh new events, expanding opportunities for businesses of all siz-es. Whether its The Pop-Up Shoppe at The Vibe Downtown launched on the 24th or Mixin’ Records Mixin’ Drinks-Vertical House Records at the Downtown Huntsville Inc offices the same night or Anything Goes Pre-sented by The Broadway Theater League January 30, 31 and February 1st they have great events lined up no matter what your tastes may be. For those who want something more Innovative, on March 7th in conjunction with CURSE Gaming there is the 2nd Annual Light + Innovation + Tech-nology, event in the Historic Downtown Huntsville. Anyone wanting to be part of the Downtown Huntsville program can start with the free e-news-letter at DowntownHuntsville.org and share your ideas at [email protected]

So, in parting, Emerson wishes to remind everyone that “Downtown rep-resents a great place to locate your business because it offers different work arrangements from temporary space to permanent space. Plus, your em-ployees will love the amazing parks and establishments in the city center.”
