DESCRIPTION

Students In Action is a national youth volunteer leadership, recognition and reward program, designed to pass the tradition of service on to the next generation. Co-developed by Jefferson Awards for Public Service and Deloitte, it is now in over 250 High Schools. Each spring, Student Leaders from the participating schools compete in regional competitions. They are asked to report on the implementation of the program, and the impact they've had, both in their schools and within their communities.

By means of students in action, we hope to help

the under-privileged and less fortunate in our

school and community, providing services

ranging from food drives to tutoring.

RAIDERS SAVE HAITI

By Doug MurphyUnless you’ve been under a rock for the last 2 weeks, you know that Haiti has suffered a major tragedy, and people from around the globe want to support them in their time of need. Here at Rockledge High, we’re going to do a something in the tradition of Raider Pride. We have four things that we plan to accomplish:Raise $5000

Buy a water filtration systemRemaining money will be a donation

Donate a ton of can goodsDonate a ton of hygienic suppliesDonate a ton of clothing and blankets (And yes, we want an actual TON of stuff. That’s two thousand pounds for each)Now, how in the world are we going to do all this? We’re going to have a friendly competition between the faculty and each of the classes. Here’s the break down.“Raiders Save Haiti” t-shirts are being sold. If you want a t-shirt, see either Coach Leib, or Mrs. Trosset (for those who don’t know, that’s Ms. Buckey). You could make a personal donation, that’s the other way. Donations will be handed in to your English teacher. Throughout the duration of our little race, the progress of each team will be monitored in the cafeteria. If your team wins first place; you’ll be awarded the golden givers. Second; silver supporters. Third; bronze benefactors. What you’ll win for each place has yet to be announced; keep your eyes and ears open.Once significant progress is made, we’ll reach out to local media to get some more help in raising money for our cause. That way we can get our community and families involved. Our project will be going on Feb. 8th – April 9th, 2010. And on March 24, we will be hosting our very first “Rough-Puff Volleyball Tournament”; details on this event are to be announced. However a portion of our proceeds from this will also go towards the “Raiders Save Haiti” project. If you miss out during school, you’ll be able to pick up a “Raiders Save Haiti” t-shirt here as well.Just a little tid-bit of info, our sponsor for this whole shebang will be the Jefferson Award Committee; and our National Honor Society will work with the American Red Cross to get all the goods shipped to Haiti. So get to donating and spreading the word to the masses. Let’s put this in the record books for our tremendous generosity!!!!
