Show SynopsisRodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, hav-ing set the standards and estab-lished the rules of musical the-atre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome

farm girl, play out their love sto-ry. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics hold-ing the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ul-timate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

Watching “Oklahoma!” come together has been a satisfactory experience, some might even say, OK! Everyone here has achieved greatness in their role in Drama Club... so whether it be on stage or off, break a leg!

We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the parents who have supported us in this production, with a special shoutout to Mrs. Harmon and all the boosters.

We would personally like to thank our amazing, new teacher sponsor, Mrs. Lundy! Before this year started, we weren’t sure who was going to step up and represent this club within our school, but we are incredibly glad that we have her and she’s helped manage the chaos that is Drama Club.Special thanks go out to the wonderful people who have directed us in the process, including Mr. Jensen, his student teacher, Ms. Martin, Mrs. Buffa, Mr. Conrad, Mr. Molnar, Frannie Shepherd-Bates, and the lovely Ms. Ward. This show would not have been as great with out their constant guidance.

And finally, a huge thank you to our phenomenal director, Mr. Ed Nahhat. If it wasn’t for him, the show would not have happened. He continues to teach us valuable lessons every day.

We hope you enjoy our show, thank you for supporting this wonderful family of ours.

Love, Your 2014-2015 Drama Club Officers,Kara Barbieri, Maureen Murphy, Deryk Nagengast, Mike Miller

O.k.

It’s used across the world in every language. “O.k.” is said to be derived of many deep language sources, from Choctaw to West African to Boston and the American west. Okay, so we all say it, and no one knows for sure where it came from. So what? The real question is: what does it mean?

It’s an amazing phrase. An adjective, an adverb, a verb, a noun and an interjection. We mean it to say that it’s all correct, satisfactory, all right, approved; we can even mean it as a question, or not okay, depending on how we say it.

But tonight I’d like us all to say it with enthusiasm, as approval. Because the students of Royal Oak High School Drama Club have put their hearts and souls and feet and arms and backs and voices and minds all together, to make this show for you. Like the word itself, they belong to this show, and it belongs to them. Some adults helped them, sure, but as the song goes: they are the ones up there onstage, making circles in the sky.

And that’s o.k. to me.

BLAZE PIZZA SUPPORTS THE ROHS DRAMA CLUB

10

The ROHS Drama Boosters strive to provide both ROHS Drama Club students and the greater Royal Oak community with opportunities for growth and theatrical education in this current climate of cuts to education and the arts.

So what does this mean? In only 3 short years we have gone from not existing to a vibrant organization that has provided the Drama Club…. • Tickets to local theatre productions with opportunities for Director/Actor discussions after the shows • Fundraisers at Potbelly’s • An improv workshop, a makeup and hair workshop and a stage management workshop • Purchase of new costume racks • Plastic Bins for prop and costume storage • Costume sale to raise funds for new costumes • Performances at Arts Beats and Eats • Permanent ROHS Drama Club banners and standees • Lawn signs to promote performance • Provide an overnight lock-in at the high school • Purchase of seven (7) body microphones with the assistance of the Royal Oak Optimist Club and the Royal Oak High School Drama Activities Fund

At the start, there was a negative budget balance and now we are able to do great things for the ROHS Drama Club. We hope you will all consider joining us in this effort.

You can donate online at rodrama.com and email us at [email protected] with your questions or input.

Special thanks to the Royal Oak Optimist Club (royaloakoptimists.org) for their donation towards our body microphones.
