While Automation provides additional intangible benefits such as better quality, decreased bug seepage, increased customer satisfaction these are difficult to quantify and have not been included in this ROI calculator.
It has been our experience that projects that do not perform ROI calculations upfront, especially automation projects do not fully scope the costs of the automation effort, what types of automation they could be doing vs. what they are doing and what strategies to follow to maximize their return. The projects where the ROI for the automation testing effort was created had better success in achieving the goals outlined for the project.
