Structure of the Games Starter team
Games Starters will be divided into functional areas, (FAs)
which will in turn be divided into 'teams’, each with an
allocated Team Leader. Team Leaders will take their
direction from Venue Managers, who will take their
direction from Games Operations via the Games Starter
Programme Manager.
All Games Starters will be supported by the Games
Starter Support team. Their main aim is to look out for the
welfare of the Games Starters and provide help where
necessary.

Summary:
The team leader will have management
and support responsibility for a designated
team of Games Starters. Team Leaders are
a vital element of the communication
pathway within the Games. They will also
have a responsibility to safeguard the
welfare of their team.
Specifics of
the role:
To manage and support your team of
Games Starters and ensure they are
able to succeed in any tasks you give
to them.
Sign in & out all members of your
Games Starters Team, and report any
absences.
To refer any safeguarding concerns to
the relevant member/s of the Event
Welfare team.
To safeguard the welfare of your team
of Games Starters.
To support the training and mentoring
of the other Games Starters.
Thank your Games Starters for their
contribution to the Games.

The Awards Party will be responsible for the
preparation of the medals and recipients in
preparation of the evening medal
presentations in the Athletes Village. This

the recipients etc.

Summary:
Event marshals will help spectators find their
way around Games venues, find their seat,
providing photo registration where needed
and referring them to information desks for
additional information if required etc.
In some cases they will also be deployed to
accreditation check points where they will
be responsible for ensure that only
accredited personnel access certain areas
of Games venues.

Summary:
Athlete Marshals will be deployed into the
Call Forward Room of both athletics and
swimming. Once the Sports Officials have
registered the Athletes the Athlete Marshals
will direct the Athletes to and from their
event.

Summary:
Games Announcers will have to main aims
1) inform the Athletes of when to report to

Officials Assistants will provide a support role
for the Sports Officials, ensuring they have

competition.
This role is essential as once competition has

the results provided by the Sports Officials,

Summary:
Games Reporters will be responsible for
interviewing pre-selected individuals/teams.
The interviews will be recorded either;
audio, video and/or written word. These

In addition, Games Reporters will also
capture the Games and share it to the
world via the Games Social Media
Channels. Guidance on content will given
by the Media Manager & Assistants.

Role: Team Host
Summary:
Team Hosts will be the first and last Games
faces that the athletes will see.
They will travel on Games Transport to meet
the athletes from the airport, travel back
with them to the Athlete’s Village and help
them to check into the Village. Where
appropriate Team Hosts may also help
induct their allocated team into the Village
and help them become familiar with their
new surroundings.
When the Games have finished, the Team
Hosts will accompany their allocated team
back to the airport for their return journey
home.

Summary:
The role of Louey, our Games Mascot, will
be played by a Games Starter. This will
involved wearing the Louey costume,
getting into character and visiting various
Games and pre-Games Venues, posing for
photos and bringing fun to the event.
Louey will be supported at all times by
Mascot Escorts, who will help Louey find his
way around the venues and look out for his
safety.
Mascot and Mascot Escort volunteers will
rotate roles throughout the day.

Summary:
The role of the Welfare Officer is 1) act as a
point of contact for the reporting of any
welfare/safeguarding concerns, and 2) to
recognise any welfare/safeguarding policy
breeches, referring information & concerns
on to the relevant individual.
Welfare officers will be allocated to every
sport in the Games programme. In addition,
Welfare Officers will be deployed to each
Games venue.

Summary:
Games Starter Supporters are there to
support the Games Starters at their
designated Games venue. Identifying any
welfare issues of those Games Starters and

Games Starters if required.
