Three-Ring HomecomingBy LARRY LEVIEUX, '55

(rntt:coMtNC, flamboyant and colorful, was a huge success in 1954 . The mainattraction of the weekend three-ring circus was a better-than-average Homecom-

ing game. The Sooners rolled over a scrappy, bowl-conscious Nebraska eleven witha 55-7 score . The Huskers came to Norman looking for an upset, but were sent onto their New Year's bowl date in Miami with a proper trouncing for their brashness .The Sooners played a mechanically perfect game before a pleased crowd of 55,000 inideal football weather-crisp but sunny .

Following the theme "Nursery Rhymes," the organized houses on the campuserected a wonderland of mache and crepe paper that lent an atmosphere of carnivalto the entire campus . Delta Gamma sorority won the women's division prize withtheir representation of "Dumbo the Elephant," all pink and fluffy with angel hair .Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity took the men's Class A prize with "Paul Bunyan andhis Blue Ox."

Norman streets were choked with traffic Friday night before the game and againSaturday morning as "art lovers" came from all directions to see the finished decora-tions . Homecoming this year aroused much more interest than in recent years .

Friday night before the game featured the annual Homecoming Dance with HalMcIntire's band . At the intermission Miss Sue Dahler from Houston, Texas, and aGamma Phi Beta sorority member, was crowned Homecoming Queen .

The Alumni Band, 140 strong, was a new addition to the weekend festivities . Afteran hour's practice, the band alums performed at the half-time period with all the pre-cision-well, almost-of the regular "Pride of Oklahoma."

Dad's Day was another big day . Before an unusually large crowd of 54,000, theSooners romped over Missouri 34-13. The Dad's Day awards to the outstanding seniorman and woman were presented at half-tune to Miss Joyce Gregory and Arnold Fagm, both of Oklahoma City .

The campus political kettle boiled over in October with elections for senior classofficers and student senators taking the spotlight. Bill Kennedy, engineering studentfrom Norman, was elected senior president . Other officers are Dan Blankenship, Mid-

land, Texas, vice president; Mary Ann Walton, Norman, secretary, and Carl Allison,McAlester, treasurer . Brad McDonald, Enid, was elected the new Student Senate pres-ident.

The students were well pleased after returning from a 5-day Thanksgiving vaca-tion to learn that the faculty senate had approved an additional three days for theirChristmas vacation, making 16 days in all. The faculty senate is a popular group ofprofessors this month.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas is the big social season at O.U . The socialcalendar will be filled with a myriad of formals and parties all through December .All the organized houses will be decorated for Christmas and will be giving holidaydesserts and teas . In addition, there is the round of caroling that the sororities do eachyear at this time . After the holidays, however, more serious things will occupy theminds of students . The end-of-semester deadlines on term papers and final exam-inations will be the No. 1 problems, and all other activities will come to a halt .

It has been a quiet semester at 0.13 . No big issues have come up ; nothing reallyexciting or controversial has "inflamed" the campus-in short, it has been really nicefor everybody.
