Ranks
Ranks were the order of importance. There were 64 Centurions, they were average
on importance. There were lots of soldiers and places in the
Ranks inside every Legion.Legate-Legates were at the top of their Legion.Prefect-Prefects were in the middle.Auxiliary- Auxiliaries were at the bottom.
Men in Roman armies
There were lots of men in a Roman army and lots of names for them too!
The Auxiliary
The Auxiliary was at the bottom of the rank.
Although weirdly he was paid lots!
He really had to pay attention to the Legate and he didn’t have any respect at all . He was a non-citizen soldier!!!
Surveyor
The Surveyor chose what happened at the army camp.
He also decided where they went and what they did there.
He was quite high up in the Ranks. He made many soldiers work very hard.
The Legate
The Legate commanded the Legion.
He was at the top of the Rank and handpicked by the Emperor himself.
Everyone had to respect him or else they wouldn’t be very popular!!!
