10. Sancerre, Croix Ursin £31.50 Loire, France

11. Marsanne/Viognier, Xavier Roger £18.25 IGP, Languedoc, France

An unusual blend of the exotic, waxy Marsanne and rich, tropical apricot scented Viognier grapes grown on the steep high limestone hills of the Languedoc in southern France – rich, layered with spicy tropical fruit and a hint of steely acidity.

12. Chardonnay ‘ Ardeche’ Louis Latour £18.95 Vin de Pays, France

13. Chablis AC ‘Marronniers’ £27.95 Bernard Legland, Burgundy, France

Crisp, steely fruit with a hint of green, slaked with hints of lime, baked apple and minerals very crisp and yet full bodied with a rich core of fruit – no oak. The youthful Bernard Legland makes wonderfully correct and elegant Chablis.

14. Chablis 1er Cru ‘Cote de Lechet’ 2014, £38.00 Daniel Dampt, Burgundy, France

One of the finest, most gorgeous and delicious of all the 1er cru’s – made by the Dampt family at their small estate that is hunkered down beneath the Lechet hill just outside the quaint village of Chablis. Dry, rich, textured and full of buttered apple pie and slight oak characters.

White Wines Bin 175ml 250ml Bottle

16. Tempranillo Blanco, Bodegas Vega, Spain £32.00This is as rare as the rarest dentally challenged hen in a flock of lesser-toothed hens without their dentures. In almost 100% of cases Tempranillo is a red grape, often used to make Rioja – here a hiccup in nature produced a white ‘Albino’ clone – this makes a rich, oaky, dry and seriously complex white – great with mussels, clam chowder and the heaviest fish and roast chicken dishes.

17. Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru £79.50 ‘Les Demoisselles’ Guy Amiot, France

Only 1 barrel of this finely crafted, rich and expressive Puligny was made, and it offers a rich mouthful of creamy vanilla, stonefruit, peach and honey notes, supported by a steely acidity and long complex finish. Amiot is a master winemaker and the Demoisselles vineyard lies a stone throw from Montrachet – very, very classy!!

18. Grillo ‘Rupes Seca’, Sicily (Organic) £22.95A lush, decadent and smoky dry white from the sunbaked slopes of Sicily’s main volcano. There are flavours of peach, apricot, spice and oak – all with a crisply dry yet rounded finish. Perfect with grilled fish and chicken.

Made by MudHouse but bottled exclusively for us, this is a pungent, intense dry white showing the passion-fruit, elderflower cordial and crisp floral notes of a true, low yielding.

21. Riesling, Domain Road £24.50 Central Otago, New Zealand

This is one of the finest dry Riesling I have ever tasted. Crisp, intensely pungent and aromatic with complex layers of citrus, lime and minerals supported by a rapier-like acidity that refreshes and gives length to the finish – mouth-wateringly good!

22. Viognier Chateau Notre Dame de Quatourze 2014 £23.75 Languedoc, France

A juicy blend of Sauvignon, Chenin, Chardonnay and some Viognier – partially aged in oak and soft, buttery and layered with honey, toasted oak, roast nuts and cereal.

28. Albarino £28.50 Alba Vega, Galicia, Spain

29. Chardonnay, Kingston Estate, Padthaway, South Australia £29.00Never before shipped to the UK – a rare ‘first growth’ of the Aussie Chardonnay world – expect rich brash tropical fruit and layers of sweet spicy oak – and a little finesse (not typically Australian then!)

Elegant, complex claret, heavy on the Merlot with supple soft black fruits and integrated oak. This is made for beef and lamb, as long as you go easy on the mint sauce (and lager!)

38. Chateau Moulin de Mallet £22.50 Bordeaux, France

Bordeaux makes more wine than the whole of Australia – it took us 6 months and over 500 samples of wine to realise that a lot of Claret is shockingly bad – this stood out for its savoury cherry character and well balanced finish.

39. Pinot Noir, Lautural, Banat, Romania £18.95This is incredibly soft, easy drinking and fragrant with creamy red berry fruit, notes of damson and mild oak.

40. Old Vines Carignan (OVC), Xavier Roger £18.95 Languedoc, France

Bursting with sweet jammy fruit, blackcurrants and smoky herbal notes, this is a wild and dusky red, fashioned from 80 year old vines normally which are blended away – we fought to stop the grapes from being wasted, here’s the result.

41. Nuits St George, Jean Chauvenet, Burgundy, France £65.00Incredible complexity from the old Pinot Noir estate. Layers of black and red fruits, a rich, rounded and hedonistic body, integrated sweet oak and softening tannins – like slipping on a silk robe and wandering through a field of jammy red fruits whilst listening to a great Aria (or The Doors… whatever takes your fancy)

42. Chateau Palmer 2003 3eme Margaux £225.00 Bordeaux, France

The mighty Chateau Palmer has been on a roll since the early 1990’s, making some of the Margaux’s most sought after and spell-binding claret, showing the poise, brooding fruit and structure of the premier Cru Classe’s along with the elegance and depth of the region. 45. Barolo, Giribaldi, Piedmont, Italy £35.00A hedonistic and warmly generous Barolo – the Wine of Kings and the King of Wines …well, if you’re Italian and have the odd mafia connection anyway. It is a big wine – tread carefully!

46. Grand Merlot 2006, Jim Irvine £85.75 Eden Valley, South Australia

Winner (twice) of the World Merlot awards, this wine has beaten the likes of Petrus over the years. Big, richly structured with a massive attack of boiled red fruit, sweet spicy oak and long warming finish, hints of eucalyptus coffee, aniseed and cracked pepper mingle with mulled fruit and Morello cherry. The finish goes on and on and on!

47. Pinotage, Avondale £22.50 Paarl, South Africa

Made by the tree-hugging, wellie wearing Bio-dynamic specialists in the Cape, a big, hearty jammy red with lots of sweet plum and leathery fruit. The maker, the young, affable Jonathan Grieve, believes that great wines are made in the vineyard and this is no exception.

48. Valpolicella Classico ‘Ripasso’ £24.95 Villalta, Italy

Made like a normal, high quality lighter Valpolicella, offering delicate red fruits and hints of chestnut, then it is re-fermented with the remains of a great Amarone and the result is a thicker, denser, more generous red with hints of bitter almonds, cherries and sweet oak – a mini- Amarone without the horses head.

49. Chianti Duca de Sasseta £19.50 Tuscany, Italy

A lighter Chianti, made for drinking with pizza, pasta and all sorts of Italian food. They even add a dash or two of white wine to soften the taste as the Italians can sometimes be a little woozy over the big red wines.

55. Rioja Tempranillo £4.95 £5.95 £16.95 Bodegas Vega, Spain

It’s modern, it’s funky, it’s dark, ripe and fruity with nice layers of creamy black fruits.

56. Rioja Reserva £35.50 Bodegas Vega, Spain

I can’t remember tasting many wines at this estate as they gave us a very, very good lunch… but I do remember this as being my top score. Aged for 30 months in new American oak, this imparts a rich sweetness and velvety tannins to an already stunning, seamless and sexy red. Powerful and beautifully balanced.
