Backyard Food Production Workshops

Free Farm Field Days!

June 11th – @ Taproot Farm in Bowerston

July 9th- @ Z Garden Place in Jewett, OH

(Second Thurs of the month)

If you are interested in Backyard Food Production, you don’t want to miss these free educational sessions for all ages! There will be a workshop the second Thursday of the month from March- October (some will be in Harrison County and others will be in Carroll). All programs start at 6pm. The May 14th session will be held at the Carroll County Extension office (please see attached flyer).

The next two sessions will be fun field trips in the northern Harrison County area that you do not want to miss! The June 11th program will take place at Taproot Farm in Bowerston at the home of Barbara Dewey and John Quimby. Join this lifelong gardener and retired entomologist during this exciting session. Have you had issues with multiflora rose on your property? Come and see how the Rose Rosette Disease, transmitted by a mite, is killing this very invasive shrub! We will also discuss poultry, composting and more!

Have you ever dreamed of owning your own small greenhouse? This dream may be more attainable than you think! The July 9th program will be at Z Garden Place Greenhouse in Jewett. Master Gardener Volunteer, Amanda Zobenica, has started her own business. Z Garden Place still has potted flowers, herbs, and vegetable plants for sale, and will have produce this summer.

Please see the attached flyer (For an electronic version, visit http://www.go.osu.edu/byfp). To register for the workshop, please call the Harrison County Extension office at 740-942-8823 or email [email protected]. The Backyard Food Production workshop series is hosted by OSU Extension, the local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the USDA/NRCS.
