Returning for Term 3

The staff at Rose Bay Public School would like to wish all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday.

A reminder, that the first day back for all students in Term 3, is Tuesday 24 July.

Students are to wear full winter uniform including black shoes and Rose Bay school jumpers.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2019

Even though it’s only the beginning of July, we are starting our planning for 2019. Over the past few weeks we have welcomed large groups of prospective families for school tours. Each tour is full and they enjoy seeing and hearing about the learning at Rose Bay. If you have a child starting school in 2019, please make sure you submit your enrolment form to the office as soon as possible. If you know of any families planning to enrol at Rose Bay, please ask them to do the same.

Being able to ask for help when you need it is an essential skill.

Is your child playing Fortnite?

Safe on Social Media says: The game is highly addictive and has an M classification. "Films and computer games classified M (Mature) contain content of a moderate impact and are recommended for teenagers aged 15 years and over". If your child is playing Fortnite, please read the attached guide and some of the editorials: www.smh.com.au and www.theaustralian.com.au

School Finance

Thank you to all those who have paid their Term 2 invoice. We have had a wonderful response with approximately 82% of families paying their invoice in full. This is an improvement on previous years. However there is still approximately $60,000 outstanding for activities and excursions to date this year.

We encourage all families to pay their term invoice so we can continue to offer the outstanding programs for which we are known. Of course, where families are experiencing financial difficulty we ask that they contact the school office for assistance.

Term 3 invoices will be sent home in the first week of term. Our aim for Term 3 is to continue to improve on payment return. Our new term invoice means that parents are asked for payment once per term in a single lump sum. Thank you for supporting Rose Bay Public School.

Scholastic Bookclub - Volunteer Needed

A Book Club volunteer is required if Book Club is to continue in 2019, as it is the last year at Rose Bay PS for Michael and Simi Hyde, who have done such a marvellous job for so many years, taking care of Book Club orders.

Please contact Michael at [email protected] for further details.

Gregg is also a very proud ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) is a nation-al not-for-profit charity focused on improving literacy levels in very remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

This is the same foundation that our S.R.C annually raises money for. The S.R.C will be holding a second hand book stall in Term 3 week 1 Wednes-day 25th-Friday 27th July, from 8:45-9:15 near the school canteen. Books will cost a GOLD coin!

If your family would like to make a donation on behalf of your family please send money to the office or pay online with Indigenous Literacy Donation as the reference before Friday 27th July.

Thank you in advance for supporting our S.R.C with your generosity towards their chosen charity. It is going to be very exciting to see our proud SRC leaders hand over the giant cheque to Gregg! Watch this space for the grand total and photos.

Breaking news…. Term 3 Tuesday 31st July, Gregg Dreise is our visiting author and will be performing for each stage. This is just in time for wrapping up our lessons and cele-brations from NAIDOC week and the beginning of our book week term!

Gregg is a teacher, gifted artist, storyteller and musician, featuring the didgeridoo and guitar in his performances at schools, libraries and festivals all over the world.

He is a descendant of the Kamilaroi and Yuwalayaay people. He is the author and illustrator of Silly Birds, Kookoo Kookaburra, Mad Magpie, Why are you Smiling and My Culture and Me.

All of these stories are about teach-ing morals of friendship, kindness, and tempers and bullying. Gregg is also the illustrator of the classic story Tiddalik the Frog, and has poetry with his illustrations in the anthology A Boat of Stars.
