Rosemount® CTS - System DescriptionCustody Transfer Measurement System for LNG

By tradition Rosemount® Tank Radar AB has measured cargo

ullage on tankers since 1976. Dual/triple measurement

channel technology was introduced more than a decade

ago, and has since been applied in several thousand radar

gauges. From 1999 and until today we have supplied over

160 CTS systems for LNG Carriers worldwide. We have also

been providing radar based High Level and Overfill Alarm

systems developed specifically for LNG Carriers since 2007.

The new Rosemount® CTS is a revolutionary product,

combining the dual measurement channel technology with

our CTS experience into a system that measures Primary

and Secondary CTS levels, temperatures and pressures.

With a single still pipe installation, and full integration of

data from both Primary and Secondary sensors, the need

for a separate backup level measurement system is gone.

Rosemount® CTS - System Description February 2013

System Configuration

Rosemount®

CTS is developed as a combined primary and secondary level gauging system and a fail-safe solution for the marine environment. The built-in independency and redundancy supports uninterrupted data acquisition regardless of sensor failure.

A typical configuration is built on two independent radar channels, primary and secondary, and can be combined with several redundancy functions, such as two sets of temperature sensors, two vapor pressure sensors, all included in the one and same TGU. Besides that a workstation redundancy is added to the system providing a fail-safe solution. The intelligent and intrinsically safe TGU handles the signals from the radar sensor and the signals from vapor pressure sensors and temperature sensors. With up to two channels in the TGU, measuring independently from each other, the measured data is also monitored from the two separate service displays on the SCU.

Rosemount®

CTS can also be configured with one channel only using the different redundancy solutions mentioned above.

Standard Features

Rosemount CTS for LNG carriers is a complete system for level, pressure and temperature gauging.

The system includes the following features:

 Radar ullage measurement

 Temperature measurement

 Vapor pressure measurement

 Calculation of liquid levels

Volume calculation on the basis of tank tables (tank capacity table, trim/list correction table and thermal expansion/contraction)

Custody transfer reporting of calculated values

 Data logging and report printing

Data transmission to cargo control system, ship computer and/or load calculator

 Workstation computer graphical interface

Optional Features

Rosemount CTS also has the following optional features:

Handling of dual channel configurations, with Primary and Secondary CTS gauging. The user can select which measurement data that is used on screens and in CTS reports.

 Flexible Cargo Report System

Draft gauging with the LevelDatic system

Field bus modules for analog and digital inputs and outputs

Independent Overfill and High Level Alarm, either with float switch or radar sensor technology

 Tank display units

 Ship’s inclinometer

Status information in Workstation mimic from independent High Level and Overfill alarm system

CTS measurement with offshore filtering of level readings

 Integration with IAS system

Rosemount® CTSRosemount® CTS is a Custody Transfer Measurement System (CTMS) for LNG Carriers. It is primarily designed as a tank gauging system, providing alarm handling and communicating information to a cargo control system for marine use.

The Rosemount® CTS provides accurate calculation of the transferred volume according to custody transfer standard methods. Built on proven technology, verified methods and long experience within the area of tank gauging, Rosemount® CTS is composed of several subsystems offering a wide range of functions and solutions.

The foundation of the system is built on the intrinsically safe and intelligent Tank Gauge Unit (TGU 53), the Supply and Communication Unit (SCU) that acts as the connection hub and the Workstation Unit (WSU) as the operator and computer interface. The TGU 53 measures the distance to the cargo surface using a radar signal and sends the measured data to the SCU that communicates the processed data with the WSU.

Rosemount® CTS has a high degree of safety built into the system and meets the requirements of all the major international marine classification societies. The system also meets all relevant requirements from the IGC code and international standards for LNG Custody Transfer.
