Historical Background

-Moses got the 10 commandments from God

-He came down from Mount Sinai and saw everyone worshipping the golden calf

- He broke the 10 commandments(^Rosh Hashanah)

-He went back up to Mount Sinai and got new ones, then told the Jews they were forgiven for their sins.

-When he came down that day was Yom Kippur, the tenth of Tishri, the seventh month in the Jewish calendar.

On Rosh Hashana the book is opened, on Yom Kippur the book is sealed.
