About our Club and our Activities

Rotaract Club of Bangalore Indiranagar, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bangalore

Indiranagar, was chartered on 12th

December 1981. We have 49 members as of now and our

strength has been ever increasing.

Our major projects in the past include ‗Joy of Giving Week‘ in 2009 (where each Rotaractor

organised a community service project), Youth Exchange programs to Sri Lanka in 2010,

RYLA (for professional development)and Pitch Fever (a six a side cricket tournament for

RID 3190) in 2011. We have also been sponsoring the education of 3 children at Sumanahalli

since 2 years; the funds for this project are raised through movie fund raisers (Raavan and

Dhobi Ghat).

On the community service front, we have been organizing projects every month, where a

group of Rotaractors take ownership of a cause and serve to the best of their abilities. Our

projects include helping orphanages, old age homes, animal welfare centres, medical

Page 5: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

institutions etc. To be environmental, we signed an Eco-Awareness campaign jointly with a

few clubs in the district, led a joint online ‗Say No to Crackers‘ campaign and also a ‗Waste

Management‘ online campaign. To further our cause of being environmental, we publish an

e-copy of our monthly newsletter ‗Youth Seva‘ instead of a hard copy. ‗Youth Seva‘ went on

to win the ‗Best Bulletin‘ award in RID 3190 for the Rotaract year 2010-2011.

We have been active in a lot of district events which include Rotafest, ICGF, IDYE to Nepal

(where 3 of the 4 members of the IDYE team were from our club), Aarambh (a state level

sports meet for the disabled) and Odyssey (Annual Rotaract District Conference).

At Odyssey, our club won 4 awards including the Best Community Based Club and 7 awards

at the 34th

Rotaract District Awards. These include Best Community Based Club, Best

President (for Community Based Club), Best Bulletin, Outstanding Rotaractor, Best Joint

Project, Best Supporting Club in the District Events and the Award for Membership

Retention and Extension.

Mere change is not growth. Growth is the synthesis of change and continuity, and where

there is no continuity, there is no growth.- C.S. Lewis

Rotaract is a platform to make that change in society, and we as the youth have that power.

Rotaract Club of Bangalore Indiranagar has won laurels from the district this past year.

Thanks to the able leadership of the past presidents who have laid a very strong foundation,

this year we hope to maintain the same momentum.

There is a general misconception about the differently abled among most people, including

many of us in the club. We believe that we need to understand the differently abled more. We

therefore intend to visit the Spastic Society of Karnataka and the Association of people with

disability so that we can better understand the world of the differently abled.

We will also be conducting a painting competition at the Spastic Society of Karnataka and

these painting will then be made into calendars and the proceeds from which will go to them.

We also intend to continue the programme of conducting a community service project every

month.

Stage fright is a reality amongst most of us. We are always amazed at the way certain

speakers are able to capture the audience and put across the ideas effectively. Therefore in the

avenue of professional service, we intend to have a work shop on effective public speaking.

We hope to build bridges between the various Rotaract districts in India and abroad, thus we

will be doing various projects with clubs in India and abroad.

While discussing amongst ourselves, we realize that we have not seen the old Bangalore. As

a part of club service, we intend to hike our way across the city. We also intend to go on treks

in areas around Bangalore.

While we do our bit for society and make that difference, we don‘t forget to have fun at the

same time. The Rotaract movement has helped us to foster and strengthen ties between not

only people but also countries and has broadened our horizon.

Bangalore – The city that lets you be..

Page 9: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

―Bengaluru‖ on paper, ―Bangalore‖ in the heart of every true Bangalorean - the city with a

population of approximately five point eight million people boasts of being the third most

populous one in the county. Bangalore sprawls over 741 km² and is touted as the Silicon

Valley of India. This is how Bangalore can be described, and while these points are all

factually accurate, there‘s a whole lot more to the city.

When I look at the city I see a myriad of cultures successfully holding their own without

stepping on the toes of any of the others. From shopping at Commercial Street, Brigade Road

and the like to well…doing the exact same thing at K.R. Market, Chikpet and Balepet. From

raving about the cutlets at Koshy‘s to frequenting the multitude of tea stalls at Shivajinagar.

From being enlightened at the museums and the planetarium to trying your hand at laser tag

and paintballing at Sarjapur. From headbanging at concerts at Palace Orchards to attending

Kannada plays at Ranga Shankara – Bangalore has a lot to offer and Bangaloreans make the

most of it.

Bangalore is one of those cities that not only lets you be yourself but also appreciates you for

it. It goes out of its way to accommodate everyone‘s interests in a seamless manner. It lets

you leave your mark on its culture while giving you the opportunity to imbibe some of the

pre-existent culture.

Though the people of the city are slowly transitioning to a more hectic lifestyle, Bangalore as

a city tries to hold on to its original tranquillity.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the city is still as laid back as ever, inviting you

to take a break from your busy schedule and take a walk in one of the many parks or down

one of the quiet little bylanes that promise to make your worries disappear… even if just for a

little while.

The Tail of a Rotaractor

―Hey you! Can I have a word with you?‖

A huge guy called me over to a table filled with papers, basically registration forms. I went

over (well, only because I was scared of the huge guy!) and all of a sudden I was flocked by

3-4 guys and a pleasant looking girl, all talking to me about joining some club. ‗ROTARACT

ROTORACT‘ and ‗PARTY PARTY‘ are all that I could hear. I didn‘t really pay attention to

the rest of what they were saying as I was scared. Well I was a fresher then and I just didn‘t

Page 10: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

want to get ragged, and these were seniors, who had managed to surround me, and there was

a huge guy there too, who could crush me faster than a bulldozer can crush a coke can! (And

the look on his face was grim too!) Without further ado, I went ahead and signed up for the

club- The Rotaract Club of Manipal (which I will refer to as RC-Manipal henceforth). Little

did I know that I was signing up for the 100th

Rotaract Club of the world, and I had

absolutely no idea that I was now going to be a part of one of the largest youth organizations

in the world….

The Rotaract wasn‘t something new that I had heard of. Dad was a member of the Rotary and

my sister was being lured in to be a part of, and hence form (or rather re-form) a Rotaract

club belonging to that Rotary, which as a matter of fact, now stands as The Rotaract Club of

Bangalore, Indiranagar. To add, from going around and listening to the seniors, I learnt that

RC-Manipal was in fact one of the ‗it‘ clubs of Manipal to be in, so I went ahead and became

active in the club. The events that the club had in order to raise funds for community service

(the very basic role of the Rotaract), were in fact events that people looked forward to the

whole year in Manipal, and mind you, these events are etched down in my memory, right

down to the last word. However, I can‘t pen down everything here, as you see, I could have a

book published about my experiences in the Rotaract, which could then go public, and I

would then have to sit down signing a lot of cheques to settle legal matters, for making

references (and not making references) to a lot of people and clubs. Yes, even Mark

Zuckerberg did not know what he would have to deal with when he made Facebook, so I‘m

not taking any chances!

Well let me summarize my experiences in RC-Manipal, and for that I can actually term

Russell Peters here. It was mind-BLASTING!

I remember being a DJ. Yes, if you can play music out of a laptop, loud! You are a DJ my

friend!!! For many events (I would not call it parties, as you see, they were events) for RC-

Manipal. Little did I know, that a particular incident which had occurred on my first Rotaract

event, Freshie‘s Day Out (you may not think so, but I think the name is super cool!!!!),

thanks to two of my seniors, who went on to become two very close friends of mine (FYI,

even the huge man is now), was in fact used by them as a surprise event for the entertainment

of our guests. Now what that incident was, I would never say, even if I would be hung upside

down and threatened to death! Apart from this very significant occurrence, I can remember

pool parties, beach side parties, cricket matches, snooker competitions, visits to breathtaking

Page 11: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

places, fundraisers and a host of other things all thanks to the Rotaract. I still remember how

beautiful girls, dressed in all traditional glory, which made them look even more beautiful,

would walk up to me, once a year (well, obviously they were different and very attractive

women every year) and ask me if I could teach them dandiya. If you are wondering why this

event would occur only once a year, and from where dandiya came in to the picture??? Well,

we at RC-Manipal used to organize the Garba once a year, which is still our signature event

and something people used to look forward to all year round. And trust me, all those sleepless

nights of hard work were all worth it, just looking at all the colourful people and their happy

faces. And of course, I‘d have my hands crushed by the end of that night, teaching those

beautiful women, which I would also say – Totally worth it!!!

But to be honest what made it all the more worthwhile was, we as students giving a donation

of more than Rs. 1 lakh a year, to people who valued our help. And what we get back in

return? Seeing the eyes of those people light up and being able to bring a little happiness on

their worry and hardship stricken eyes, that is a feeling you can‘t just describe, but is

something best experienced.

But to summarize it, RC-Manipal gave me the best 4 years of my Engineering life. I know

engineering is 4 years long too, but what can I do if the Rotaract made all those 4 years fun

for me??? Now run along and don‘t be jealous! And then I moved back home, to Bangalore.

It is rather ironical, but what I called home, was in fact completely a new place to me, with

new faces and new places to go, which were not there when I left. I felt rather lost and a little

deserted, as apart from my family, the people I called friends were in all different cities (and

feeling the same way as I did!). On Dad‘s advice, I joined the Rotaract Club of Bangalore,

Indiranagar (RCBI as I will refer to it from now on); as he thought that it would be a nice

avenue for me to meet people from my age group. And man was he right! Not only did I

come to know people from the club, but also from all the other clubs in Bangalore. And

thanks to RCBI, I must say, Bangalore felt like what Bangalore is, to me. The Rotaract

network is huge I tell you! Bowling competitions, football matches, community projects,

youth exchange programs, travelling to other places, motorcycle rides, college fests (yes I‘m

out of college and attended a college fest, and had a superb time too!) and so many other

memorable things! And some things that are off the record and I can‘t mention in here (oh

come on! You know what I‘m talking about, you all have done these things too), or else our

bigger and older Rotarians will ask us for some explanations (hey! Come on, they obviously

Page 12: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

know and have more fun than us, but it‘s just a thing unspoken and unheard of, if I can say

that!).

In all, there were the moments and there were the events, and there were more moments, and

there were more events. And there will be more moments and more events, and even more

moments, and even more events. What I am trying to say is, the Rotaract network is

continuously growing, more clubs are being formed, and more events are being held each

year. But what remains important, to you and me as people, is the friends that we made and

will make thanks to the Rotaract, the times that we had and will have together. These are

things that make us who we are; it completes you as a person. You may not realize this, but I

did while I wrote this. The Rotaract, as a movement, has played a very significant role in

making me who I am, and I must say I am proud to be what it has made of me. This you may

say is the Tail of the Rotaract. And mind you, this tail grows longer and longer as the days

pass by, and will always be a part of our lives…………

Page 16: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

Puducherry is a Union Territory of India. It is a former French colony, consisting of

four non-contiguous enclaves, or districts, and named for the largest,Pondicherry.

In September 2006, the territory changed its official name fromPondicherry to the

vernacular original, Puducherry, which means "New village" in the Tamil language. The

territory is called (Putuccēri) or (Pāṇṭiccēri) in Tamil, or

"Pondichéry" in French. It is also known as The French Riviera of the East (La Côte d'Azur

de l'Est).

Government and administration:

Puducherry is a Union Territory of India, not a separate State, which implies that the

governance and administration of the territory falls directly under the federal authority

in New Delhi. However, along with Delhi, Puducherry is one of the two union territories in

India, which is entitled by special constitutional amendments to have an elected legislative

assembly and a cabinet of ministers, thereby enjoying partial statehood powers. Under the

special provision, the government is permitted to make laws with respect to specific matters.

In many cases, such legislations may require the ratification from the federal government or

the assent of the President of India.

The Centre is represented by the Lt. Governor, who resides at the Raj Nivas (Le

Palais du Gouverneur) at the Park, the former palace of the French Governor. The Central

government is more directly involved in the financial well-being of the territory, as against

the states where financial administration, given a budgeted central grant is the responsibility

to the state governments. Consequently, Puducherry has at various times, enjoyed lower

taxes, especially in the indirect category.

6. Free Article on Rotaract (100 words- 400 words):

Rotaract originally began as a Rotary International youth programme in 1968 and

has now grown into a major Rotary-sponsored organisation of over 8,200 clubs spread around

the world and 195,000 + members. [1]

It is a service, leadership and community service

organisation for young men and women between the ages 18–30. Rotaract focuses on the

development of young adults as leaders in their communities and workplaces. Clubs around

the world also take part in international service projects, in a global effort to bring peace and

international understanding to the world. [2]

"Rotaract" stands for "Rotary in Action", [3]

although the name originally comes from

a combination of "Rotary" and "Interact" (International + Action), the high school level

programme created by Rotary International in 1962.[4]

Most Rotaract activities take place at the club level. Rotaract clubs hold formal

meetings, usually every two weeks, which feature speakers, special outings, social activities,

discussions or visits to other clubs. Club members get together on designated days for service

project work, social events, or professional/leadership development workshops. [5]

[6]

The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to

enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address

the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between

all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service. [7]

To be eligible for membership, prospective members must be 18–30 years of age,

show that they are committed to Rotaract, and show that they are of good standing in the

community. After being approved by the club, prospective members are 'inducted' to become

members, also known as 'Rotaractors'. Clubs generally charge a small annual membership fee

to cover costs

Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30.

Rotaract clubs are either community or university based, and they‘re sponsored by a local

Page 18: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

Rotary club. This makes them true "partners in service" and key members of the family of

Rotary.

As one of Rotary‘s most significant and fastest-growing service programs, with more

than 8,400 clubs in about 170 countries and geographical areas, Rotaract has become a

worldwide phenomenon.

Rotaractors may also

Work together with Interact clubs or mentor Interactors

Participate in Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Become Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars or Group Study Exchange team

Rotaract Club of Mumbai Greencity- R.I.D 3140

Club Activities- The Rotaract Club of Mumbai Greencity was chartered on 10th

August, 2009

under the Rotary Club of Mumbai Greencity. Now in its third year, the club has conducted

various activities in the different avenues of club service, community service, professional

development and international service. We have conducted projects like The Amazing Race

Rotaract in which rotaractors as well as outsiders participated in teams of two‘s and travelled

across Mumbai in search of clues and performed tasks. We conducted School’s Out! in

which we conducted Literary Arts, Performing Arts and Fine Arts workshops for students of

the age group of 12-14 years. We have held Planting Smiles, in which we went to an

orphanage for girls and taught them about the art of Bonsai plants and then sold them at a

fund raiser, the money was donated to the orphanage. Along with our Rotary, The Rotary

Club of Mumbai Greencity, we conduct The Greencity Car Treasure Hunt to raise money

for a check dam project. At the club level, we conduct various fellowship programs for our

members to interact and workshops on various topics which help us learn more. At the

district level, we have also been a part of Rotaract Entertainment Destination, where our

entire district comes together and participates according to the zones in events of Performing

Page 19: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

Arts, Literary Arts and Fine Arts; World Responsible Youth Week, where rotaractors from

the entire district perform street plays and spread the message of Education amongst people.

At our district, we were awarded the Best Upcoming Club Award and ranked 11th

at the

District level.

Incoming Projects- We plan to hold a drawing competition for 400-500 children of NGO‘s.

We are also looking at conducting The Amazing Race Rotaract in the coming month. We

plan to conduct Rotaract Champions Trophy which is an under-19 football knockout

competition. Green The Globe is another initiative that we plan to conduct in which we plant

saplings and spread awareness to school children and also amongst villagers about the need

for a Green Environment. We continue to have various fellowship activities for member

bonding. This year we plan to hold The Greencity Car Treasure Hunt again with our

Rotary and help another cause.

About Mumbai- Mumbai formerly known as Bombay is the capital of the Indian state

of Maharashtra. It is the most populous city in India, and the fifth most populous city in the

world, with a population of approximately 12.5 million. It‘s called the city that never sleeps.

Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, it is also the world's top 10

centres of commerce in terms of global financial flow and accounting. Mumbai is home to

important financial institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, the Bombay Stock

Exchange, the National Stock Exchange of India, the SEBI and the corporate headquarters of

numerous Indian companies and multinational corporations. The city also houses

India's biggest film fraternity Bollywood, with most of the famous actors like Amitabh

Bhachchan, Shah Rukh Khan , Aishwariya Rai Bachchan, etc residing in the city. The city

offers a cosmopolitan and diverse lifestyle with a variety of food, entertainment and night

life, available in a form and abundance comparable to that in other world capitals. Mumbai's

history as a major trading centre has led to a diverse range of cultures, religions and cuisines

coexisting in the city. This unique blend of cultures is due to the migration of people from all

over India since the British period. Mumbai being so diverse celebrates various festivals like

Diwali- The festival or fire crackers, Holi-The festival of color, Eid, Ramzan, Gudi padwa etc

from all religions.

On Rotaract- All things at Rotaract begin at Grass-root level, with members addressing their

local and societal needs through a framework of ―Friendship and service‖. The purpose of

Page 20: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

rotaract is to enhance knowledge and skills that will assist the ―Rotractors‖ in their own

professional development, to address the social needs of the society through a large chain

promoting friendship and oneness. Rotaract is thus a worldwide phenomenon, a movement a

joint effort to make a difference & to be the difference. Rotaract as an organization is giving a

platform and recognition to a lot of youngsters to showcase their talent and get the experience

of working in a professional environment. The Mini-B school as it is called, gives a lot of

learning that is required while working in an organisation. I have found Rotaract to be an

excellent opportunity for networking beyond academia, not only with local professionals and

community leaders but also at the global level with Rotaractors around the globe. This in turn

has helped us know more about the various cultures and communities worldwide. Rotaract

has made it easy to benefit both the local and international communities and to aid the

professional development of our members.

Rotaract Club of Victoria

RI 4130

Article on club activities (200- 500 words) & 3 photo of club in Action.

This year, the Rotaract Club Victoria made international activities, professional

development and of course: community service projects.

You know, it is almost impossible to summarize 1 year of activities in less than 500

words, and it gets worse if that year passed making something you love and enjoy.

So this time I‘m only going to talk about 3 activities we did.

The first days of July a hurricane affected our community, so we collected food and

cleaning supplies, so we can give it to the people who need it.

For the members and guests to continue learning about Rotaract, we made the second camp,

which was called "Rotacamp 2" it consist in leaving the city for a weekend and going to a

quiet place surrounded by nature, with speakers who give us talks about the history of

Rotaract, leadership in our community and making integration activities so make a strong

friendship between us.

At the end of the Rotary year we did an activity called "Fulfilling the Dream" which

consisted in ask to children with cancer "what do you want to do when you grow up?"

because unfortunately not all reach adulthood.

Then, we contact people who develop these professions and the children spend a day with

them.

In addition to inaugurate this stage of fulfilling dreams, there was a massive event in which

they released white balloons into the air in memory of children who died in this battle against

cancer.

Incoming projects & program of Club.

This year our club will celebrate its 25th

anniversary! So we are so happy and got a

lot of plans! This are the big ones:

As you know, our country is sadly the number 1 in children obesity of the world, so

we are going to be the example for the kids in our town, making a challenge between

members and guests, so we are all fitness.

Page 25: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

Also we are planning to do a ―Football Town Cup‖ in male and female edition, so

everybody can be in activity in a cool way.

We have a kinder garden school, so we will keep on helping it with thing they need.

We also are going to make the ‖Rotacamp 3‖, because for us, the quality in the

members is essential, and with this activity we can make our friendship stronger and at the

same time learn more about Rotary and Rotaract.

As you all know, the world is dying for the pollution we all made, so we are going to

start a recycling campaign, asking people to separate paper, plastics, aluminum, cardboard

and copper, so we can sell it to factories, so they can use it again and the club can also make

some money to make other activities.

As I already told you, we are 25 years in community service this year, so we are

planning to make a monument in a principal avenue of the town, so we can make a tribute to

our founders, and past presidents, because the club is still working because of the good work

made by them.

ROTARACT FOR BEAUTIFUL DREAM!! Give and take is one of the dealing concepts now-a-days. We are in danger with Eve teasing,

Wine & drugs, Cyber crime etc. Youth are involving themselves because of their plenty of

time, lack of awareness. It is undoubtedly true that the wrong path is always attractive. There

is no sufficient guideline for them who want to choose their way of life. Youth are victim of

social crime by the surroundings! Parents pray for their follower‘s best success. But how they

can be a complete man without spiritual value? They are taught- read, read and only read. As

a result they consider to read attentively is the only one duty of student life. If we overlook

co-curricular activities how our future generation will be patriotic, dedicated, efficient and

updated.

Like the bee, gathering honey from the different flowers, a Rotaractor accepts the essence of

the different scriptures and sees only the good in all religions. Just think about life. It's a

fight, but you will win. It's a struggle, but you can make it. You‘re in a race, but you can

finish. It might be uphill, but God will strengthen your legs. Your swimming upstream, but

God will strengthen your arms. You‘re fighting an enemy that you can't see, but God will

give you His vision. You‘re in the ring with your enemy, but you will knock him out. You are

unsettled now, but you will have His peace! YOU WIN!

Any fool can criticize, condemn and complain but it takes character and self control to be

understanding and forgiving. Treat everyone you meet as if they are the most important

person in the world—because they are if not to you, then to someone; if not today, then

perhaps tomorrow. People think Rotaract means a youth who spoils his time unnecessarily!

Really, most of the people who have no concrete idea about Rotary movement they think so.

In the passing days we are looking that growing young are destroying their leisure time by

doing unnecessary works or involving such a type of works what are harmful for his future as

well as to the society. They are taking drugs, committing crime, making eve teasing; don‘t

pay respect to the elders. On the other hand in a Rotary movement one can get opportunity to

build up his character in worldly and get ready for spiritual life with a great theme ‗Service

above self‘. It is a great medium to grow world brotherhood and fellowship. One Rotaractor

Page 29: Rotaract Bulletin Blossom

can not take drugs, bribe and weapons for harmful activities. He is religious and peaceful in

order to obey the Rotaract purpose.

Wise says ‗Don't always get mad if you don't get what you want, but try to be happy with

what you have. If you have patient, then the future will bring joy, happiness, love and lots of

surprises‘. God may not give you what you think, you need; He is going to provide you with

what he knows you need. He will provide for you according to His will and plan for you. We

hunker after money to fulfill our worldly demand. Cry for that reason a lot. But make sure

don‘t cry for the same reason.

You can close your eyes with the things you don‘t want to see, but you can never close your

heart with the things you don‘t want to feel. It should keep in our memory we the solvent

people (physically, economically & mentally) have to do some for those who are regarded as

not fulfilled. Count your blessings. Once you realize how valuable you are and how much

you have going for you, the smiles will return, the sun will break out, the music will play and

you will finally be able to move forward the life that God intended for you with grace,

strength, courage and confidence. Try to remember, your entire primary mate did not come to

read at secondary level, the entire secondary mate did not pass the SSC exam and did not get

opportunity to read at college level as well as the college mates did not continue their

learning due to poverty. You are doing graduation or completed. Who bears your expanses?

Certainly you will answer, ―The government‖. But the government gets money from where?

People of lower class (basically who lives under the poverty level), whose children do not go

to educational institute, they give the larger portion of these money. How we can pay our

responsibility to them? Then I‘ll say, ―With Rotaract Club‖. Because Rotary is a great

movement, where service to people is being taught! And it is believed that one volunteer can

not involve in harmful activities. So, earning money should not be only goal of human life.

Man should shake for mankind. I always say that- ‗A volunteer can not be a bad citizen‘. And

every Rotaractor is a complete volunteer!

Awesome day in Rotaract Club! Shout Rotaract for beautiful dream!
