Monday, March 31 —Congressmen Dave Loebsack
Congressman Dave Loebsack will be our guest at the Monday, March 31
membership meeting. Congressman Loebsack will be speaking on his life
prior to Congress and his legislative priorities. He will also give a quick
overview on the committees he serves on and the work that he’s been
doing this Congress. He will be opening the floor for
questions.
Congressman Dave Loebsack was raised by a single mother in Sioux City, IA. His family
struggled to make ends meet and he is living proof of how a community support can
make a difference in people’s lives. Dave attended East High School, Iowa State
University and received his PhD from the University of California, Davis. Today, Dave
has the honor to serve as Professor Emeritus at Cornell College. Dave and his wife
Terry, a retired school teacher after 35 years are the proud parents of four grown
children.
Dave is currently serving his third term in the U.S. House of Representatives. Since
being elected by the Second District, Dave has been a relentless advocate for Iowans,
addressing critical issues that are facing Iowa families. As a member of the House
Committee on Education and the Workforce, Dave is committed to job creation and
economic development, by improving training for Iowa workers, reinvigorating our
manufacturing base and supporting our small businesses, which are the key drivers of
our economy.
Dave serves on the House Armed Services Committee, and Terry and he have a son and
daughter-in-law serving in the United States Marine Corps. As a member of the Armed
Services Committee, Dave has worked to support the Iowa National Guard to improve
training facilities and ensure they receive the benefits they and their families deserve.
He has also worked to support the Rock Island Arsenal, and he has worked tirelessly to
ensure that our nation’s veterans are served by a grateful nation with the same honor
with which they served our country.

The Four-Way Test
Of the things we think, say or do
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and
BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

Volunteers needed for the community service project on Saturday,
April 12. We will be partnering once again with the American Red
Cross and the Davenport Fire Department to distribute educational
materials for fire prevention and safety and emergency procedures in the home. We
hope to reach 600 homes. The time commitment is 8:30 AM—Noon. Rotarians will
work in conjunction with Red Cross volunteers and the fire department to hand out materials in
targeted Davenport neighborhoods. Parking will be in a designated spot and the Red Cross will
provide vehicles and volunteers to transport everyone around the community. To volunteer, contact
Annette Horvath at [email protected].

QC River Bandits Spring Social—May 28, 2013
As the 2013-2014 Rotary year begins to come to an end, let’s
celebrate with a night at the Quad City River Bandits.
Rotarians and their families are invited to a night at the park
on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 as the River Bandits face off
against the Benoit Snappers. Game starts at 7:00 PM with
gates opening at 6:00 PM. The committee has reserved the Sky Deck for the
game. In case you aren’t familiar with the Sky Deck, it is climate controlled and located on the suite
level along the 3rd base line. Rotarians can purchase tickets for a discounted price of $15 per person
and includes game ticket and ball park menu (hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, baked beans, chips, potato
salad, cookie, ice cream sandwiches, soda, water and lemonade). Children 3 and under are free. All
other children will need to purchase a ticket. RSVP by Monday, May 12 if you to attend. Tickets will
be available for pick up at “will call” the night of the game.
Farewell Jr. Rotarians. We wish you
continued success as you finish your senior year.
