This week we took a “three-hour cruise” down the Port River with the Dolphins …the skipper too, no millionaires were sighted but perhaps a few Gilligans were in our group. It was a pleasant way to spend the evening and the weather was mild and most members wandered out to the front deck to better enjoy the dolphins and sights of the Port River and Lefevre Peninsula. Adel and Merrilyn joined us as did Kevin Jacka and his partner Sue. It was a value for money Christmas event with good quality food and wine on the menu. Well done Emiko! The kiosk roster at Thorndon Park continued on Saturday and Sunday with two shifts on Sunday to cater for the Carols in the Park and BBQ. So revenues will be sustained. Nominations for vacant board positions have been called and please consider a role to share the load. If you need someone to nominate you please contact either Tim Mee or myself as it is a way of having a say in the way the club operates. The Club’s AGM is on the 12 December and Tim will send the agenda and papers to all members plus they will be available on the club’s website. The agreement between our club and the Paradise Railway is currently being reviewed by Club members including solicitor Paramjit Budwal. It is important that we act prudently to minimise any issues in the future and Paramjit’s careful eye will be invaluable in this regard. No meeting on the 19 December so have the night off to share with your family or to do the last minute shopping for your partner or yourself. This week we have an interesting speaker who will tell us about his son’s battle with Cancer. See You at the Rezz.

CHRISTMAS DINNER DOLPHIN CRUISE Reports have been received that this was an excellent Christmas event and enjoyed by all. Good food and service, well organised. Great fellowship, scenery and dolphins. Even heard that there was no rust in the boat. Many thanks to Emiko for organising this and all our fellowship events for this year. Great work.
OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
The Club has again provided a cash award for the most “Outstanding Community Service” by a student
from Norwood Morialta High School. This was awarded to Yixin Guo. She will be starting year 12 next year but
has already done some subjects of year 12, she is very well educated! Sue will be contacting the school after
Christmas to ask her to come to speak to us. The achievements by this student were truly outstanding and we
will provide more detail on her actions that saw her rewarded. the award was presented by Sue Pullens at
a recent School Assembly.
ORIENTEERING AT THORNDON PARK Members opened the kiosk on Friday evening to provide refreshments to the people participating in a Twilight event, with additional coaching provided from the kiosk by our own Peter Mayer. Useful information like “you have only completed half the course”!! CHRISTMAS BBQ FOR STAR Members cooked a BBQ for STAR at their Christmas Lunch on Saturday, always a great event. STAR is a not for profit charitable organisation that provides a teaching and volunteer service for people with disabilities who wish to live in their own home and require assistance to do this successfully. They operate throughout inner metropolitan Adelaide. We have been supporting STAR with a BBQ at their Annual Disco for many years. Next Disco is due 27 April 2019. CHRISTMAS CAROLS AND PARADE AT THORNDON PARK Wow!! What an afternoon and night. Thank you so much to all members and other volunteers. This evening is usually even busier than the Moonlight Market and we had some members sick and others away but everyone stepped up and did an extraordinary job. What a team we are. Be very very proud of yourselves. KILDARE COLLEGE AT THORNDON PARK Members will open the kiosk and cook a BBQ on Monday for students from Kildare College with Graeme and Vicky having to restock everything after a sell out at Carols in the Park. A great big thank you for all the work they do preparing and packing up at every event. ROTARACT CLUB OF EAST TORRENS Rotaract is being re-established in our area. Rotaract Club of East Torrens (formerly Sturt). They are looking for new members so if you know young community minded people in the Campbelltown City area who might be interested or just want to have further information about Rotaract please invite them to attend on Wednesday 5 December 2018 from 18.30 to 20.00. Venue to be advised. Rotary Club of Campbelltown will be the sponsor club. More about ROTARACT Rotaract brings together people ages 18-30 in universities and communities worldwide to organize service activities, develop leadership and professional skills, and have fun. Rotary clubs sponsor them, but Rotaract members manage and fund their clubs independently. Rotaract members work closely with their local Rotary club, and may join after their Rotaract membership ends.
