Dear Fellow Rotarians, January is Rotary Awareness Month, a time when Rotarians are encouraged to share with the com-munity the vast work we Rotar-ians do so everybody realizes the relevance of the community ser-vice that Rotary does. The more the world knows what we do, the more we can do and therefore the better place the world becomes.A lot of what we do is invisible to most people or not necessarily attributed to Rotary. How many times we see a media/news re-port on polio eradication wherein Rotary is not mentioned at all. We know that Rotary is a well kept secret and we have been doing a lot of work to showcase to the world what we do and therefore we have given a lot of emphasis to how to promote our public image. For instance, the first week of this Rotary year, our Traffic Safety project was on the newspapers and it was heavily promoted on social media. Also, last month’s event to honor the Armed Forces organized by the Northern Palm Beaches Rotary club was feature on TV news.We have identified specific causes to target to maximize our local and global impact. At the same time, we understand that each community has its own unique

needs and concerns. Through our network of resources and partners, clubs focus their service efforts in promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, support-ing education, and growing local economies.By now, your club has a good sense on the projects embarked during the last six months or the ones that will be pursued in the next six months. The uniqueness of the club projects creates an opportunity to share your accom-plishments with other Rotarians in the District and/or your own local communities. You could ask your district governor about presentation opportunities at the district conference and/or having an article feature in an upcom-ing issue of Quest. You can also submit your upcoming project to be considered for the 2015 Rotary Has a Heart award. Many Rotarians have asked about the “Rotary Has Heart” program that was carried last year on Valentine’s day. During the first quarter of 2015, I am asking all clubs to participate in a Commu-nity Service Project that continues the theme “Rotary Has Heart”. The thrust of this Community Service Project is not limited to food for the poor, but anything

the clubs might have in mind. The project can begin as soon as you read this article, and it may end as late as March 31, 2015. At the end of the projects, March 31, one club winner within the district will be selected as the best Community Service Project with related publicity and it will be submitted to the zone coordinators for review. The winning club will receive a George Lewis Painting along with 1,000 Rotary Founda-tion Recognition Points. The club presidents may use the painting and 1,000 recognition points to honor a Rotarian or non-Rotarian who has made a significant contri-bution to their community, use the prizes for fundraising or whatever they wish.We all should proudly wear our Rotary pins and when someone asks you about that pin, we should be ready to answer them. What is Rotary? What does Rotary do?

District Foundation SeminarsThis year in an effort to make attendance by Rotarians in our District less cumbersome we decided to hold two sessions; one in the Melbourne area and one in the West Palm area. The content of both meetings was designed to be identical. There were some differences in that we had different presenters for Planned Giving and of course there were different questions raised by Rotarians in attendance.Rotary Foundation rules required that in order for a club to be qualified for Grant Activity during the 2015-2016 year the club would need to have a representative at one of the two seminars. This was not a new requirement.

Each session started with welcome and introductions followed by awards for Foundation achieve-ment last year presented by PDG Arthur Hodge. The subjects covered in different modules were:

• District Grants• Global Grants • Planned giving • Q & A in general with a wrap-up.

During the discussions of each subject there were a number of questions raised from the floor and a lively discussion. Many of those who attended felt that they came away with a greater understand-ing of at least part of the process. There is some complexity surrounding our grant process both on the District and the Global Grant side. The most important message we tried to convey was that if Rotarians had questions that could not be answered by using the resources available on line they should contact either District Foundation Chair Phil Lustig at 561-212-6554 or [email protected] or Grants Chair Jim Sisserson at 321-543-7973 or [email protected] .The resources are best found at www.rotaryfoundation6930.org or at the District web page www.rotary6930.org where you would select Foundation and that would direct you to the 1st site. Below is a list of clubs that DID attend the mandatory sessions – thus they are qualified for grant activity in the upcoming Rotary year as long as they have submitted a MU for the coming year. If there is an asterisk next to a club name they still have not submitted and MOU (as of 26 November). The Belle Glade Rotary Club participated in The Dictionary Project on December 4. It is an annual event in which Rotary members deliver dictionaries to all the 3rd grade students in the Glades community. The Rotary Club delivered approximately 450 dictionaries to 7 glades area schools. The schools included Gove Elementary, Rosenwald Elementary, Pioneer Park Elementary, Glades Day School, Belle Glade Elementary, Glade View Elementary, and Lakeside Acad-emy. The Rotary Club is a strong supporter of education. The Dictionary Project provides these students with a great resource to develop their learning skills. Members of the club thrive to be positive role models for Glades students. It is a tradition to have every class re-cite Rotary Internation’s 4 way test to provide a valued motto on how to treat one another.

My name is angelica Blakely and i will be at your service as Public image Chair in our district. as part of rotary’s new strategy we are trying to strengthen our image so that everyone will understand what rotary stands for, how we’re different, and why it matters.i encourage all Public image Chairs for each club to download from rotary Brand Center the Messaging Guidelines Brochure, subtitled the Voice, and Visual rotary Guidelines, to share with club members. in this brochure you will find powerful tools to do “What we need to do”, which is to tell our great story in a way that ensures our actions and supports our words. and if your club doesn’t have Public image Chairs please ask your president to appoint someone. one of the best ways to bring our story to life is to simply tell about it. With this in mind we will have a space in the district newsletter called “telling You Story”. it will be a forum for individuals to tell about the day they became a true rotarian. Submissions will need to be no more than 400 words and, if possible, should include the author’s picture. Stories like these can inspire others and help to con-nect people to one another. Please, ask your P.I chair to send them to me at: [email protected]
