COMPANY HISTORY

Horner Electric was founded in 1949 by George and

Mary Horner and has grown into Horner Industrial

Group through hard work and the acquisitions

of some of the area’s finest companies in their

respective fields. These include Horner Fan and

Fabrication, founded in 1895 and purchased by

Horner Industrial in 1997; Scherer Industrial Group,

founded in 1927 and purchased in 2003; Egenolf

Machine founded in 1927 and purchased in 2006;

Herman & Company, founded in 1980 and purchased

in 2006, the founding of Electro-Mechanical

Diagnostic Services in 1989, and the purchase in

2011 of R.L. Nevitt & Associates, founded in 2002.

WHAT: 1500HP DC Drive that mixed raw rubber for the plant

PROBLEM: The drive end gearbox failed due to bearing

fluting that went through the DC motor into the shaft of the

gearbox and into the bearing. The DC drive was connected

to the gearbox, which was was connected to a mixer.

SOLUTION: CoolBLUE was installed, and the reduction

of common mode currents was reduced from 52 amps (2.60

volts) down to < 2 amps (80 millivolts). This reduction rep-

resents a change of 96% in common mode currents being

generated by the DC Drive. Resulted in a very happy customer.
