B) Rotrex Super Charger (2ZZ-GE & 1ZZ-FE)-

1) What should I know about the Rotrex Supercharger kit?

The Rotrex Supercharger kit is actually a custom self pieced kit utilizing a Rotrex C30-94 Centrifugal type supercharger. Below I will out line all the needed info to piece together your own Rotrex kit including the CAD drawing of the Supercharger bracket needed to mount the Rotrex to your 2zz alternator (may also fit for 1zz, I have not tested this)

1.1) About the Unit. The Rotrex units are extremely compact and are roughly the size of an alternator yet have the potential to make 300whp with possibility of making more power. Taken from www.Rotrex.com

The 2zz-ge “kit” uses a C30-94 unit giving great performance and response. Below is a link to the Technical Data Sheet for the C30 unit range it lists all details/specifications about it and flow charts.http://www.rotrex.com/pdfs/Rotrex_Te...Range_V4.0.pdf

1.2 What you get.

When your order your Rotrex unit from one of the distributors, such as www.w2wpowertrain.comYou will receive the following package

It includes• Rotrex C30-94 unit• Pulley size of your choice (95mm-100mm-105mm recommended for 2zz)• Traction Fluid• Oil reservoir• Clamps and fittings• Oil lines • Oil filter

1.3 What you need.

To make the Rotrex unit work with you 2zz equipped Celica (possibly 1zz and Matrix, Sportivo ect) you will need to gather a few parts to complete the kit. The most important of these parts being the bracket that holds the Rotrex in place. The Rotrex is mounted to the Alternator of the 2zz and sits directly in front of it (see installed pics further down) A picture of the bracket

The bracket cad file can be found here …..http://www.mediafire.com/?2x5mbwx12dr

The bracket only cost $AUD100 to have cut by a laser cutting company. The bracket is cut in TWO pieces and needs the pieces to be welded together so it can be lined up perfectly to your alternator and supercharger. These mods are shown below.

Other parts you need…• Engine management (ie Power FC, Emanage ect)• Injectors (530cc – 660cc will be fine)• Intercooler + Custom pipe work (small intercooler is fine Rotrex doesn’t produce much heat) • BOV• Oil Cooler (for the Rotrex oil)• PK6 Belt • Pod FilterObviously the choices above are down to personal preference and therefore will affect the total price of this project.

You also need to relocate your coolant reserve and cruise control (if fitted) The below picture shows where these two parts can be relocated to easily.

Two pipes coming off the air con unit will also have to be modified slightly as they just touch where the Rotre will be mounted. One for certain can pushed out of the way, the other is possible to push but will be better if customized by a air con worker.

1.4 Installed Pics How is mounts to the Alternator

How the belt is ran

Below are a few pics of how the intercooler piping is routed, due to space this is the only way it can be done.

2) How much do these Rotrex Supercharger kits go for?Since this kit is self pieced its hard for me to offer a definite price, all I can tell you is that the Rotrex its self is priced at $US2200. The rest of the pieces will need to be sorted yourself, however below is a list of what I paid. (Converted to $US estimates)Bracket - 90Power FC + 530cc Injectors - 1100Intercooler - 100BOV - 150Oil Cooler – 75Intercooler Piping – 700The best thing about the above prices is that most parts can be found easily on ebay, or

forums making 2nd hand generic objects work well for your custom kit which will of course save money. There is then of course installation costs, welding of the bracket and various other necessities such as clutch, gauges and tuning which should all be considered before you undertake this project.

3) How much power will I make with the Rotrex Supercharger?

This is multi variable as the kit is custom and choice of pulleys are offered its possible to have a mix of figures. Looking at my own project and the few that have been completed by guys over on spyder chat below is what I have found.

For a 2zz-ge you can expect to make from 250whp to a little more than 300whp. (However with a fully built engine and Race header and more boost I believe I will be able to hit 350whp. Will update in a few weeks when I get my built set up tuned) One built 1zz-fe on sypder chat has achieved an amazing 292whp, his thread is located herehttp://spyderchat.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48027As you can see the power the Rotrex makes is extremely linear and boost builds exponentially as the revs rise. The below was taken from the above 1zz thread, making 17psi (max for the s/c)

3.1 Pulleys From research I have gathered the following information regarding pulleys and there use.105mm used on a 2zz will produce approximately 8psi making roughly 240-250whp95mm used on a 2zz will produce approximately 15-18psi and should make well over 300whp85mm used on a 1zz will produce approximately 15-18psi and will make approximately 290whp (built engine)Since the Units themselves have a RPM limit, 95mm on a 2zz will reach the rotrexs limit at 8300rpm. On a 1zz an 85mm pulley will max the blower at 7300rpm. Therefore these two pulleys are the smallest possible and represent the most power that can be made. It should be noted though that until I actually test the 95mm pulley we will not truly know the possibilities of the Rotrex and the above information should be taken knowing that 95mm has not been tested yet.

The above pulleys can be purchased from dealers of the Rotrex kits, such as www.w2wpowertrain.com and cost $US100.

4) What 1/4 mile times can I expect from this Rotrex Supercharger kit?

I personally have not been to the ¼ mile track as of yet so I cannot comment of this.

5) More info?A new site has been recently developed relating to all things rotrex including many installs and their power ratings, dynos and pictures. http://www.supercharger-experience.comOfficialy Rotrex website www.Rotrex.comhttp://www.komo-tec.com/ uses a Rotrex set up for the 1zz and 2zz powered Lotus, they claim the 1zz makes 220whp and 2zz makes 295whp.
