The compact construction of the Rotzler spare wheel carrier was specially designed for the installation to all common truck chassis.

It will fit optimal in the small clearance between the driver’s cab and the semitrailer or platform. The small design makes the large pivoting radius of the semitrailer possible.

In case of an emergency the Rotzler spare wheel carrier will save valuable time and man hours due to its handy one man handling.

Electrical and airpressure connections for semitrailer trucks can be installed as an option to the spare wheel holder.

Build up the spare wheel carrier

The installation can be performed generally that the wheel

will be lowered at the RH side of the truck (Fig. 1). An optional

configuration for lowering the wheel at the LH side is possible.

Note: Use the specifications of the technical drawing on

page 2 as reference for the following descriptions.

1. Measurements to inspect

Outer diameter wheel 1080 - 1200 mm

Upper edge of truck-chassis max. 1120 mm

Diameter of the rim 540 - 600 mm

2. Required space

The spare wheel carrier can be located close behind the

driver’s cab. You have to make sure a safe distance to other

components like air filter or the cabin due to vibrations and

twisting of the truck.

Make sure of the accessibility of the handwinch between the

cabin and the spare wheel carrier. The necessary free space

to operate the crank handle is a radius of 250 mm.

Examine the required space to the rear vehicle superstructure

(clamping device of the rim at the pivot arm has to be easily

accessible).

Examine the necessary pivoting radius if using a semitrailer.

3. Brackets (Fig. 3, 4, 5 and table 01)

You must use two specified brackets to install the spare wheel

carrier to the chassis of the truck (not included in the delivery).

The brackets must have sufficient dimensions to cover the

forces that specially occurs during driving.

3.1. Installation at the brackets

Install the spare wheel carrier at the fixed bracket with the

bolts (1) and the nuts (2). Torque the nuts with 181 Nm.

Install the two rubber elements (5) between the flexible

bracket and the spare wheel carrier with washers (4) and

safety nuts (3). Torque the nuts with 195 Nm.

For a secure mounting of the brackets to the chassis you

have to use a minmum of five bolts (1) with nuts (2) at the

fixed bracket and a minimum of three bolts (1) with nuts (2)

for the flexible bracket.

4. Electrical- and air pressure connections

Optional available is a rack for the electrical- and air pressure

connections in use of semitrailer- or flat bed trucks (Fig. 2

and 5).

You have to perform a detailed functional check of the

electrical- and air pressure system if this option is used.

5. Job Close-up

No contact of the wheel or the swivel arm to the

vehicle superstructure is permitted in the following

operational check .

(a) Install the spare wheel to the swivel arm and lift it with the

handwinch. Do a complete cycle of raising and lowering

of the swivel arm.

(b) Drive the truck on a ramp with a height of 300 mm to twist

the chassis and do check (a) again.

6. Operating, maintenance and safety procedures

These procedures are included in the user manual.

7. Liability

Rotzler recommend that the installation of this product should

only by carried out by authorised personnel. Rotzler will

assume no liability for personal injury or material damage

and/or any financial losses resulting from incorrect installation

and use of this product.

Modifications to Rotzler products are not permitted.
