Roundness measuring system from Ametek

Ceratizit showcases carbide water jet components

Ametek Taylor Hobson has developed a high-throughput roundness measuring system suitable for the shop floor and the inspection room.

The Surtronic R-Series Roundness and Form Testers use an orientation mecha-nism that allows the operator to position a part for meas-urement in 20 seconds – one third the time required for tra-ditional instruments, AMETEK claims. What’s more, there is no need to re-centre when measuring a series of similar parts by using the patented centring attachment.

The measurements, which are ISO compliant, can be taken with ±25 nm accuracy

and 6 nm gauge resolution. The results are displayed on the touch-screen interface using X-sight software.

Ametek Taylor Hobson’s instruments, which feature modular construction, are designed for 24/7 operation in demanding environments. A full range of accessories and standards is also available.

The instruments are designed for measuring high volume bearing parts (includ-ing raceway, ball, needle and roller bearings) and quality control applications in automotive, aerospace, optics and process control of grinding, turning, milling and honing.

Ceratizit offers new carbide grades that aim to provide a more consistent standard in cutting quality.

Ceratizit’s three new prod-uct lines for water-jet nozzles are as follows: Economy, Standard and Premium. Extreme pressures of up to 6,200 bar and high impact speed up to around 1,000 m/sec make water an optimum cutting tool for a variety of materials, but the focusing tubes are subject to consid-erable stress caused by the intense abrasion during the so called abrasive cutting. Ceratizit says that its carbide grades guarantee a high and consistent standard in the cutting quality.

The Economy Line is the most recent addition to the company’s product range of abrasive nozzles. “We have

developed the Economy Line specifically for applications where cost optimization is decisive, simultaneously with-out having to forgo European quality,” Jan Heidle, product manager for water-jet nozzles at Ceratizit, explained.

The Standard Line offers a tool life of up to 80 hours and an all-rounder nozzle for standard applications as well as in demanding industrial contexts.

The Premium Line offers a tool life increase of up to 30% with an improved rela-tion between hardness and toughness. “The higher cut-ting speed, together with the reduced abrasion, offers the customer a direct added value, and on an internation-al level even a considerable competitive edge,” Heidle added.

Ceratizit has developed components for water jet technology.

Mott Corporation rolls out porous tungsten componentsMott’s latest offerings have been designed to expand end-use applications.

Mott’s porous tungsten is stable at high temperatures with the highest melting point of all metals, the lowest coefficient of thermal expan-sion, and corrosion resist-ance under extreme condi-tions, the company claims.

Mott engineers porous metal components, sub-assemblies and finished products for applications in a wide variety of industries, including biotechnology, medical, chemical, petro-chemical, instrumentation, food and beverage, semi-conductor, and alternative energy.

Ametek’s system can measure ball bearings.
