CLOSED HOLIDAYS NEWSLETTER VOLUME IX NUMBER I JANUARY, 1996 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE It is a joy to be able to serve you again as President of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society, and in the process learn more of what our forefathers did for us. Our ancestors went through much tribulation and effort to give us what we have and enjoy. Of all the benefits, Freedom of Religion is the most important we now have. Most people here in the United States are not enjoying and reaping the true benefits which could be theirs thru worship and studying God's word. The International Lutheran Laymen's League just finished filming the persecution which took place years ago in Russia. The Russian government separated the men and women and shipped the women and children to Siberia, These people were placed in railroad box cars with nothing but what they could carry. There was no food, no water, and no facilities. The ground was covered with snow when they arrived. Our ancestors experienced hardships when they came to this country which they considered the Promised Land. Too bad that we cannot repay them for what they did for us. We can, however, thank God for His grace that we are able to enjoy our many blessings. Continue to attend worship services, study the Bible and through the blessings of the Holy spirit we will continue to enjoy blessings beyond imagination. It is not too early to mark your calendars and make plans to attend the Wendish Fest, Sunday, September 22, 1996. There will be a small group from Germany who will entertain us. The Lord bless you until the next time! Ken Weiser Pres ident

GENERAL MEETING NOVEMBER 19, 1995

The General Membership meeting of the Texas Wendish Heritage Society was called to order by Laverne Gersch, President, at 2:00 pm on November 19, 1995.

Due to the death and fun e r a l of Willie Zoch, Pastor^ Paul Hartfield was not present.

DEVOTION: The devotion was given by Ken Weiser and taken from Proverbs 20:4: "The sluggard does not plow i n the autumn; he w i n seek at harvest and have nothing". A sluggar is habitually lazy person. Too lazy to plow. This passage reminds Ken of the log cabin. I t took much time to prepare one log. Everything done by hand. Connection to today? We are blessed with time on our hands; but, we DO NOT u t i l i z e our time on positive things. We have negative thoughts which come from too much television viewing. TWHS can help- take quilting. This i s not always a lady thing. Boys/males can sew. Do something positive- on a weekend have a qui l t i n g party. Could be an activity f o r young people. I t would be di f f e r e n t : positive and productive Our forefathers worked hard. They were up early, before sunrise, and not home u n t i l after dark. The forefathers worked hard, so lets make sure we are true by setting an example and thereby bear f r u i t . Thank you. Ken.

There w i l l be another f e s t i v a l i n 1995. the 1995 one was a tremendous time. TWHS was awarded the f i r s t (1st) place ribbon f o r the outstanding booth. This ribbon accepted for Cindy.
