Day 1) Christ The Redeemer

In the top of the mountain is installed Christ the redeemer, one of the most wanted touristic

sides of Rio de Janeiro. Biggest and most famous scripture Art Déco of the world, the Christ

statue started to be planned in 1921 and it was developed by the engineer Heitor da Silva

Costa over 5 years of job, from 1926 to 1931, the opening year of the monument.

It’s located at Parque Nacional da Tijuca, 710 meter above the sea level, where anybody

can appreciate one of the most beautiful views of the city. Over all 220 steps that lead to the

famous statue feet, it was elected one of the Seven Wonders of the World made by formal

voting in 2007 by the Swiss Institution New 7 Wonders Foundation. The monument is

accessible by train, van or car.

To get into the monument, there’s a nice ride by train that, during 20 minutes, it crosses Mata

Atlântica until Corcovado’s top. Making an easy access to the visitants, three panoramic

elevators and four escalators were built. The visual is amazing; it makes an unmissable

programme for those that visit the city.

Cristo Redentor

No alto do morro do Corcovado está instalado o Cristo Redentor, um dos pontos turísticos

mais procurados do Rio de Janeiro. Maior e mais famosa escultura Art Déco do mundo, a

estátua do Cristo Redentor começou a ser planejada em 1921 e foi desenvolvida pelo

engenheiro Heitor da Silva Costa ao longo de cinco anos de trabalho, de 1926 à 1931, o ano de

inauguração do monumento.

Está situado no Parque Nacional da Tijuca, a 710 metros do nível do mar, de onde se pode

apreciar uma das mais belas vistas da cidade. Ao todo são 220 degraus que levam até os pés da

famosa estátua, eleita uma das Sete Maravilhas do Mundo em votação organizada em 2007

pela instituição Suíça New 7 Wonders Foundation. O monumento é acessível via trem, van ou

carro.

Para chegar ao monumento, há um agradável passeio de trem que, durante vinte minutos,

atravessa a Mata Atlântica até chegar ao topo do Corcovado. Para facilitar o acesso dos

visitantes, foram construídos três elevadores panorâmicos e quatro escadas rolantes. O visual é

estonteante, o que torna o programa imperdível para quem visita a cidade.

Lunch at Aprazivel Restaurant

Aprazível Restaurant is located in Santa Teresa, a carioca district where life flows at a slower

pace. Innumerous reasons do justice to its name as the word aprazível means pleasant: the

view of the Guanabara Bay, the poetic sun- set, the patterned trees that provide cooler days in

the summer and protection from the cold in wintertime, the cozy ambiance and the

background music make coming to Aprazível a true sensory experience.

O Aprazível Restaurante fica em Santa Teresa, bairro carioca onde a vida segue de forma mais

suave. E são muitos os motivos que fazem jus ao nome: a vista da Baía de Guanabara, o

entardecer poético, as árvores frondosas que refrescam no verão e protegem no inverno, os

ambientes aconchegantes e a música ao fundo que fazem da vinda ao Aprazível uma

verdadeira experiência sensorial.

Santa Teresa District

The district of Santa Teresa is named after a 17th century monastery on top of the hill. The

traditional little tram, a tourist landmark in Rio, was inaugurated in 1896. The district became

more popular after 1744 when the Aqueduct and new roads were built. Attracted by its pleasant

climate, European immigrants were the first ones to settle in this area, building impressive art

noveau mansions around the hill.

The district has preserved its history and charm, becoming an alternative for leisure, life quality

and luxury adopting the Carioca style. Its topography and its out-of-the-way leisure places take

visitors to a refuge back in time.

O bairro leva o nome do convento construído no século XVII no alto do morro. O tradicional

Bondinho de Santa Teresa, marco turístico da cidade, foi inaugurado em 1896. O bairro se

popularizou em 1744 com a construção do aqueduto que abriu vias de acesso. Os imigrantes

europeus foram os primeiros a ocupar a região, atraídos pelo clima agradável, por isso as

mansões com traços da Art Noveau construídas ao redor do morro. O bairro preserva sua história

e seu charme e se tornou uma alternativa de lazer, qualidade de vida e luxo à moda carioca. Sua

topografia e recantos de lazer levam os visitantes a um refúgio no tempo.

Sugar Loaf

From Praia Vermelha, the visitants take the first tram links to the Urca hill, and from there, a

second tram takes them until the top of the Sugar loaf hill, it stays 396 meters of the sea level.

Different histories justify the name of this touristic side; the most popular says that during the

centuries XVI and XVIII, at the peak of the production of sugar cane, the producers stored

sugar blocks in little boxes to be exported, and the resemblance of the object with Sugar loaf

mountain gave origin to the name.

Inaugurated in 1912, the little tram of the Sugar loaf was the first Brazilian cable car and the

third in the world, linking the Urca hill to the Sugar loaf mountain. Since then, more than 40

million of people have already used that cable cars.

From the high of the two mountains revels a gorgeous landscapes of the city, including the

Botafogo cave, Copacabana edge and the entrance of Guanabara bay. In the summer, the

amphitheater, located in the top of Urca hill is a stage for shows and night events, joining fun

and a wonderful visual of lights of the city.

Pão de Açúcar

Partindo da Praia Vermelha, os visitantes pegam o primeiro bonde leva ao Morro da Urca, e

de lá um segundo bondinho os leva até o topo do morro do Pão de Açúcar, que fica a 396

metros do nível do mar. Diferentes histórias justificam o nome desse ponto turístico; a mais

popular diz que durante os séculos XVI e XVIII, no auge da produção de cana de açúcar, os

produtores armazenavam os blocos de açúcar em formas para serem exportados, e a

semelhança do objeto com o morro do Pão do Açúcar deu origem ao nome.

Inaugurado em 1912, o Bondinho do Pão de Açúcar foi o primeiro teleférico do Brasil e

terceiro no mundo, ligando o Morro da Urca ao Morro do Pão de Açúcar. Desde então, mais

de 40 milhões de pessoas já utilizaram os bondinhos.

Do alto dos dois morros se descortina uma deslumbrante paisagem da cidade, incluindo a

enseada de Botafogo, a orla de Copacabana e a entrada da Baía de Guanabara. No verão, o

anfiteatro localizado no alto do Morro da Urca é palco para shows e eventos noturnos, aliando

divertimento a um belíssimo visual das luzes da cidade.

Panoramic Tour – Historic Town

After visiting the Sugar Loaf we will do a panoramic tour through the historical streets of the

city center. We will see the French and Portuguese influences on the architecture of the city

and how the past and the present are mixed in every corner.

We will pass through the bohemian streets of Lapa with a quick stop at the Metropolitan

Cathedral. Soon afterwards we will have a lunch in a charming bistro called The Line, inside

the National Historical Museum and one of the oldest buildings of the city.

After lunch we will visit the Olympic Boulevard, one of the legacies of the 2014 Olympic

Games and symbol of the city's urban renewal. We will enter the Museum of Tomorrow, one

of the new passion of the city, and the Art Museum of Rio with its permanent collection on the

evolution of Rio de Janeiro.

Centro Histórico

Depois de visitarmos o Pão de Açúcar faremos um tour panorâmico pelas ruas históricas do

centro da cidade. Veremos as influências francesas e portuguesas na arquitetura da cidade e

como o passado e o presente se misturam em cada esquina.

Passaremos pelas ruas boêmias da Lapa com uma rápida parada na Catedral Metropolitana.

Logo depois almoçaremos no charmoso bistrô The Line dentro do Museu Histórico Nacional,

um dos prédios mais antigos da cidade.

Após o almoço iremos visitar o Boulevard Olímpico, um dos legados da Olímpiada de 2016 e

símbolo da renovação urbana da cidade. Entraremos no Museu do Amanhã, uma das novas

paixões da cidade, e o Museu de Arte do Rio com sua coleção permanente sobre a evolução do

Rio de janeiro.
