    Everyone talks about theweather except LesLinfoot. He paints aboutit.

    Linfoots new exhibition,Everyone Talks About theWeather is opening at theAmelia Douglas Gallery atDouglas College on Aug. 8.

    I dont really make land-scape paintings. I make paint-ings about landscape, Linfootsays in a press release. I wantpeople to view my work andrethink the idea of landscape,of locating oneself in the geog-raphy of time and place.

    The exhibition will runfrom Aug. 8 to Sept. 6, withan artists talk on Sept. 6 at 10a.m., and a closing receptionthat evening from 4:30 to 7:30p.m., with live music by Little

    Mountain Trio.The gallery is on the fourth

    floor north at Douglas College,700 Royal Ave. Its openMonday to Friday from 10a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdayfrom 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Theexhibition will be open specialhours for the New WestminsterCultural Crawl 11 a.m. to 5p.m. on Saturdayand Sunday, Aug.10 and 11.     !Linking Passion and

    Inspiration.

    Thats pretty much whatart is all about and its thefocus of a poetry workshop atthe New Westminster PublicLibrary on Monday, Aug. 12.

    A library press release notesthat the workshop, set for 7:30p.m., will look into varioustypes of passions and theireffects and influence on ourinspiration.

    The use of poetic workswill help explore how emo-tions influence writing. Thebalance of the workshop willfocus on methods of develop-ing and painting passion andacquiring new inspiration, therelease notes.

    The workshop is led byDeborah Kelly, who hasbeen writing poetry for morethan 40 years. She currentlyhosts and features with PoeticJustice in New Westminster,has been the recipient of thePoet of Merit award from theInternational Society of Poetsand has published her poetryin numerous Canadian andinternational publications.

    Gallery is hosting a special exhibi-tion featuring a group of artists itsdubbed the New West 7 sevenwell-known artists who live andwork in the city.

    The New West 7 exhibition willbe part of the 10th annual NewWest Cultural Crawl on Saturdayand Sunday.

    A press release notes that visi-tors can check out the fine artand street photography of GaborGasztonyi, whose acclaimed bookA Room in the City revealed thelives of many of VancouversDowntown Eastside residents.

    Sharing a studiowith Gasztonyiis Judith Copland, an establishedartist with more than 20 years ofexperience and as many solo exhi-bitions.

    Leslie Poole, a lifelong RoyalCity resident, is one of the coun-trys most exhibited artists, withmore than 100 solo exhibitions inCanada and the U.S. during hisactive 40-year career.

    Angela Au Hemphill, a localpainter who belongs to theFederation of Canadian Artists,has won international recognitionfor her work, winning the 2010Spilsbury Gold Medal award.

    Jim Walsh, who paints underthe alias J. Charles, is a local pho-tographer, painter and teacherwhostarted his career in New York andhas seen his work exhibited acrossCanada and the U.S.

    Teressa L. Bernard, also a mem-ber of the Federation of CanadianArtists, was a silver medallist atthe 2007 Spilsbury Medal Showand has work in collections acrossthe country.

    New to the gallery is CeciLam, a longtime participant inthe Eastside Cultural Crawl, whobrings her self-described euphor-ic dance with colour to the localexhibition.

    The Van Dop Gallery is a con-verted New Westminster heritageproperty at 421 Richmond St.

    It will be open during the NewWest Cultural Crawl from 11 a.m.to 5 p.m., along with a host ofother participating galleries andlocations.
