DRAMA BOOSTERS
Only 3 ‘/2 years ago there was not a Drama Club boostersorganization. At that time, the ROHS Drama Club was a verytalented group of students that persevered, despite a lack ofresources, including a bank account with a negative balancedue to having to rent basic audio equipment.A small group of parents gathered to see what they could doto help, and formed the Royal Oak Drama Club Boosters (anofficial nonprofit!). Now the bank account is in the black, thestudents have access to talented adults with a wide variety ofskills and there is a team in place to make sure the ROHSDrama Club has smooth sailing for years to come. What was unexpected was that Drama Boosters has becomethe most fun parents committee in Royal Oak High School! OurTuesday night meetings take place at off campus and featuredinner, drinks and lively conversation. With the students and school partnerships, here’s a list of justSOME of what we have accomplished over the past 3 V2years:• Had an all-night lock-in party in the auditorium.• Created a fund to purchase new wireless microphones.• Arranged for tickets to local theater productions withdirector/actor discussions after the shows.
• Conducted fundraisers at Potbelly Sandwich Works, Papaiohn’s, National Coney Island and the Royal Oak FarmersMarket.
• Funded workshops to help students learn techniques forimprov, hair and makeup and stage management.
• Purchased new costume racks and bins for props andcostumes storage and care.
• Collaborated with a local community theater company ona costume sale to raise funds for new costumes
• Supported the creation of a student-run One Act FestivaL• Created and installed ROHS Drama Club banners, standeesand promotional signs used throughout the community foreach show.
• Created an operational website to sell tickets, consolidateinformation, improve communication and archiveperformances.
It has been a fun few years for all members of the DramaBoosters. Please join us next year. Contact us [email protected] or visit www.rodrama.com.

Panache
Cyrano wears a feathered plume on his hat (called apanache), over a simple soldier’s uniform, and carriesa sword as sharp as his wit. A poet, a hero, a man ofgusto and self-assurance, he loves purely - anddedicates his very life to honor. He abhors pretense, moral compromise, and especially despises peoplewithout honor. Cyrano leads the way in this funny andtouching adventure while we, his cadets, follow - andlearn from his example.
Our ROHS Drama Club Students have each found apiece of Cyrano inside themselves. They havededicated themselves to this project withoutpretense, putting their hearts and souls into a grandershared adventure. In this Drama Club, many do manythings. One for all, as they say.
I hope that what our students take away from thistimeless play will be even more special than thematuring confidence, team buildingskills, and leadership training inherent to a successfulgroup effort; because in Drama Club the creativespark of preparing for live performance makes thedifference. Here, they discover their own panache.
