Letter from the Dean
Canada’s University for Working Professionals
Who the program is designed forOur MBA is designed for managers and
business leaders looking to take their career
to the next level. Applicants are assessed
on three general criteria: education,
experience, and personal characteristics.
As a baseline for evaluation, we look
for a bachelor‘s degree from an accredited
university, seven years of full-time
professional experience with three years
in management, and personal characteristics
that demonstrate capacity to succeed
in the program.
Many applicants may have obtained
knowledge and experience equivalent
to these baselines through life experience.
Flexible admission is used to assess individuals
who do not match the general profile.
If qualifications are insufficient in one area,
flexible admission allows us to credit strengths
in other areas. Those applying for an MBA
in digital technologies and human resources
must have education or experience in those
fields. Those applying for the executive
management, leadership, or management
consulting streams may have experience
in any field.
What you will learngraduates are equipped with a foundation
that includes the ability to go into any
organization and see the entire picture.
Whether employed in finance or marketing,
public relations or strategic management,
graduates will have an understanding
of how a business operates and how teamwork
can improve it.
Apply your learningAt Royal Roads University, we base the
program and curriculum design, content,
delivery and assessment on a precise
identification of the integrated knowledge,
skills, and values needed by both learners
and society. graduates of our MBA program
will be able to think critically, solve
problems, work with others, think globally,
and communicate effectively.
How the program is structuredThe Royal Roads MBA is a two-year graduate
degree with intakes in november and May.
The program starts with a four-week online,
pre-residency session that leads into the first
of three on-campus residency periods, each
lasting three weeks, combined with online
learning. Participants work closely in teams
during both residency and online portions.
A full-time commitment is required during the
three residency periods. For online learning,
learners use Internet software and take two
courses at a time, for 12-week periods. each
course requires an average level of effort
of about 10-12 hours per week, for a total
commitment of no less than 25 hours per
week. This may vary based on a learner’s
familiarity and/or level of interest in a
subject area. The Royal Roads MBA features
a core MBA curriculum, specialized courses
related to the program stream selected and
an Organizational Consulting Project (OCP).
Faculty members are available for counsel
and are in regular contact with learners.
“The Royal Roads University
MBA program was an amazing
learning journey and directly
applicable to the workplace.
The incredible people I met
and the interesting courses made
it a very valuable experience.
My years of professional
experience, coupled with the
degree, opened many doors that
were otherwise closed. I am
thrilled that I just accepted
a director role with a large health
region. This opportunity for
career growth would not
have been possible without
a master’s degree.”

“RRU armed me with
the confidence to apply what
I learned about business and
technology in my industry.
As the person leading the City
of Vancouver’s IT and Physical
Security program for the 2010
Winter Olympic Games, I am
faced with many challenges
– both as a security practitioner
and as a business person.
But the lessons learned at RRU
well prepare me to meet these
challenges, providing me with
the personal confidence to take
them on. The RRU program
pushes the individual to succeed.
While there, we called it business
‘boot-camp’. The atmosphere
was stressful and spectacular
all at the same time – I really
miss the camaraderie, and wish
I could do it again!”

“Since I have completed
my MBA, I have been promoted
twice – still at the company
I worked for while doing
my studies. These promotions
have given me increased
responsibility for strategy
development and leadership.
It is amazing to go to work
knowing that you are there
because you have many other
options and it is where you most
want to be. For me this is even
more valuable than the titles
and pay increases – to love
what you do.”

organizational Consulting Project (oCP)The Royal Roads MBA features a core MBA curriculum, specialized courses
related to the program stream selected and an Organizational Consulting
Project. The OCP is a major part of the program and provides a dynamic
learning experience through the application of theory to a real-world situation.
Learners find an organization – which may be their own – that is facing an
important issue and requires business advice. Issues are examined, options
analyzed, and recommendations provided to the sponsoring organization’s
management team. The project’s scope consists of about 360 hours of work,
with both a final report and presentation required.
An amazing personal journey…
“My organizational consulting project (OCP) presented an integrated approach to workplace health. Recommendations included wellness measures aligned to organizational goals, leadership training, disability management processes and a flexible, principled approach to create workplace health.
My RRU MBA enabled me to bring a strategic business focus to the delivery of human resource services. My OCP was published giving me exposure to senior management in the industry. My promotion has given me a chance to apply my RRU education in “centre of expertise” and “business partner” situations.
RRU has been an amazing personal journey. The professors were responsive and on the leading edge of business administration and new technology. The OCP was a fantastic opportunity to leverage the learning and the curriculum focused on the real world.”
