Spring Term Key Dates 2015

Communication, Language and Literacy

Describe where their dinosaur would like to live using lots of descriptive

words. Children to create their mind maps.

Write a letter to Mummy dinosaur to let her know the eggs are safe.

Continue to play games to develop children’s understanding and

knowledge in phonics.

Revise and revisit previous learnt sounds and apply the sounds

independently in our writing. Phonics games on IWB and carpet area using

clipboards and mini white boards.

Book – How to Grow a Dinosaur

‘Growing a dinosaur’ and writing instructions of what we have done.

Using their imagination to say what they think will hatch from our egg.

Making posters to encourage people to be aware of the egg!

Bromley Music Festival AN ENJOYABLE DAY OUT FOR ROYAL RUSSELL YOUNG GUITARISTS AT

THE BROMLEY MUSIC FESTIVAL 2015

The Junior school young guitarists had an enjoyable day out in the guitar classes at the Bromley Music Festival on Sunday March 1st .

In all, 17 children took part from years 2 – 6. Some children played solo pieces while others took part in teacher pupil duets. In addition the two guitar ensembles, Junior and Senior, performed on the day to a

delighted audience of parents and family members of those taking part.

Highlights were excellent marks and 1st placing for Diya Patel 3LW, Daniel Topalovic 4A and Luis Wilson Watty 5T.

All receiving Gold medals. Visiting music teacher “Roger Davies” said he was particularly pleased

with the RRJS Junior Guitar Ensemble winning the “Junior Jubilee Trophy” by coming 1st in their class beating the RRJS Senior Guitar

Ensemble in doing so.

Royal Russell Players next production, the Wonderful World of Dissocia will be performed

in the PAC 9-11th April at 7.30pm. Tickets available from www.rrplayers.co.uk

Year 5/6 took part in a Speed Awareness competition recently.

The lucky winners spent the morning with our local traffic police, recording motorists

speed and speaking to those who drove over the national speed limit.

The lucky winners also got the chance to sit inside a police car.

Dear Parents,

On Friday 20th March, there will be an eclipse visible from the UK where the moon covers

the sun and blocks out light. The last eclipse visible from the UK was in 1999 and the next

one will not be visible here for another 11 years. It is predicted that for London and the south

east, the darkness will be around 85%, weather depending. The maximum eclipse, when the

moon is nearest the middle of the sun, will be at 9.31am and the moon will have passed in

front of the sun by 10.41am.

As this is such a rare and exciting phenomenon, we have arranged for all Upper Junior

children to be able to view the eclipse. To do this safely, all children will be provided with

special eclipse glasses which are CE marked and safety tested. Weather depending, we will

watch the eclipse from the lookout point in Addington Hills – approximately 20 minutes’ walk

from school. We will be leaving school at approximately 8.55am and returning during the

morning, about 10.15am.

In the week prior to the eclipse, Mrs Coker, Head of Science, will explain to the children what

they will see on the day and the reasons that the eclipse will happen. The children will also

be given information on the dangers of looking directly into the sun, even during an eclipse,

so that they are fully informed and understand their responsibility to protect their eyes fully

by wearing their solar eclipse glasses. They will of course be reminded regularly on the day.

As usual, the children will need to come to school in full school uniform with a coat. If the

weather in the preceding days is inclement, the children may wish to bring welly boots or

trainers for the walk up to the look out. We are hoping for a clear day however should the

weather be unfavourable we will not proceed with this trip.

Please return the attached consent form to your child’s class teacher by Tuesday 17th

1853 Society, Comedy Night

Saturday 21st March in the Great Hall

Doors open 7pm and show starts at 7.45 pm

Join us for the 1853 Society first ever Comedy night, an evening of fun and laughter with the added benefit of

fundraising for the 1853 Society, especially for the new Sports Pavilion.

The comedians performing will be taken from the alternative comedy circuit which produced such stars as Jo

Brand, Lee Evans, Jack Dee, Micky Flannigan, Alistair McGowan, Eddie Izzard,

Frank Skinner, Michael McIntyre, Lee Hurst, Bill Bailey and Graham Norton to name just a few.

This promises to be a highly entertaining night so we recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

Minimum age for this event is 18 years. Ticket price £15 per person, including table snacks and a complimentary

drink.

Tables of 4 to 10 people, subject to availability - late bookings may have to share.

Unlike previous events, there will be a cash bar selling wine, beer and soft drinks so we regret that beverages

bought from outside the venue will not be permitted.
