The aim of education should be to

teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men.

Synopsis

The idea of Problem-Based Learning has its roots in educational philosophy.Manyprolificthinkersineducation, suchasJeanPiaget,John Dewey, Lev Vygotsky, Jerome Bruner and Don Margetson, pointed out that learning is an active social and cognitive process as opposed to a passive and mechanistic one. They assert that learning is more than a demonstration of the ability to regurgitate and remember facts, but to create meaning from the information that is given and the ability to act in a well-considered way. Problem-Based Learning is an educational approach that seeks to operationalise these principles of learning in order to maximise students’ learning and help them perform in a rapidly evolving and highly complex work and social environment.

Synopsis

In spite of technological advances, many organisations still operate at a fairly basic level of information management characterised by disparate islands, applied to address operational functional issues. There is exponential growth of data sitting on databases throughout the organisation; but data is not the same as information. There is no shortage of data, but there is still a huge shortfall of business intelligence. Unleashing the power of your data and optimising your organisation’s information is essential for corporate performance, organisational survival and profitability. This programme helpsparticipants gain an understanding of how information is obtained, validated, stored, accessed, distributed, consolidated and optimised for proactive intelligence and competitive advantage.
