Middle Level Commissioners, Cambridgeshire UK The Middle Level is the central and largest section of the former Great Level marshland region, which was drained in the 17th century. The task of the Middle Level Commissioners is to protect the reclaimed land in the Middle Level area against floo- ding and to keep the groundwater at a constant level. The main body of farmland in the Middle Level area is located up to 3 metres below sea level and is therefore extremely prone to flooding. The modern pumping station of St. Germans systematically drains the water into the Great Ouse River shortly before it flows into the sea, protecting the areas against flooding. The water level in the Middle Level area represents a particular challenge for the pumping station: the volume of water varies according to the seasons and the surface level of the water fluctuates with the tide. Consequently, the pumping station‘s output has to be continually adapted to the required flow rate and head which is ensured by variable speed pumps designed to always run at the optimum operating point. The particular efficiency and reliability of the BEVERON

pump has proven its worth with large flow rates compa-

red with tubular casing pumps, dry-installed pumps and

horizontal propeller pumps. Furthermore, the impressive

expertise already demonstrated by KSB with Bosman in the

Netherlands was another key factor in the decision to use six

BEVERON 210 concrete volute casing pumps.

In addition to the technical requirements for the pumps,

the customer also wanted to use particularly reliable and

environmentally friendly pumps. The pumping station was

therefore equipped with BEVERON pumps. The customer

was impressed with their wear-resistant Residur® ceramic

bearings, which require no additional coolants or lubricants.

Lubrication is provided by the pumped fluid, supporting the

constantly high efficiency of the pump. The bearing is chemi-

cally and physically resistant to all fluids and solids, making

it extremely durable.
