Location and Access ; Claim List.

Claim #s 1197368 aad 1197370 are approximately 50 kilometers north of the community of Little Rapids, which is only five kilometers north of Thessalon, Ontario, and just off Highway 129.

The claims are described as the south east 1/4 of the south 1/2 of Lot l, Concession! V, Otter Twp. Plan G-3309, Blind River Mining Division, Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma District, 46 degrees 35' by 83 degrees 30'.

These claims may be accessed from Thessalon north along Highway 129, tom off at Little Rapids and travel north by bush road to Saunders Lake, travel by boat to the east ead of Burden Lake to arrive at the claim location. They be also reached by crossing the Mtssissauga River west of Wakamota Lake, and traversing west cross country for about l 1/2 miles. These claims may also be reached by float plane to Burden Lake, as the lake is large enough for safe landings and take-off.

The author and survey supervisor was Alan Barry (see attached list of qualifications) July 20,1998.

Work Done: 1996

The trail up from the shore of the lake connecting all of the trenches was brushed out to allow easy access to the work areas, and to locate all of the existing trenches This hadn't been done since 1985, so the trenches andaMofthesurroundingareas were quite grown in with brush and small trees. The trenches were filled in with debris, leaves and loose rock and grass. The area surrounding the trenches was cleared and brushed, and the trenches were cleaned out for sampling. A total of eight trenches were treated in this manner.

Samples were chipped from rock in place from the trenches and sent for assaying. A prospector's package assay was requested (As,Ba,Bi,Cr,Cu,Mo,M,Pb,Sb,Se,Sn,W,Zn), and a fire assay for Au and Ag. (See attached assay reports for results).

The strike of the suspected anomaly was determined, and the proposed grid was laid tut for Ae magnetometer, VLF and BEEP MAT surveys. Thetiase line was started 201 (0+00) to the northeast of the eastern end of #3 trench and ran northeast/southwest at an angle of S l degrees to

#3 trench and to continue until the oW*" K"e was intersected on the east boundaryline. The base line was stopped at its' most southerly station by the intersection with the creek that exits from Burden Lake.

The base line was cut and chained, and stations turned at 100' intervals. The cross lines were cut and chained, and measurement pickets erected at 50' intervals for survey readings. A total of 1.75 kms. of base line and grid lines were cut, chained and measured, with eight stations turned off the base line.

Three separate surveys (Magnetometer, VLF and BEEP MAT) were carried out and aH readings were recorded at 50' intervals in an effort to outline any anomalies on this property. Readings for these surveys were processed and corresponding charts and maps indicating the results were produced and recorded.

Page 5: RPT OF WORK PERFORMED OTTER TP - Ontario · package assay was requested (As,Ba,Bi,Cr,Cu,Mo,M,Pb,Sb,Se,Sn,W,Zn), and a fire assay for Au and Ag. (See attached assay reports for results)

Results and Recommendations:

BEEP MAT Survey Results:

The BEEP MAT is a sulphides detecting device purchased by MNDM and stored at the Resident Geologist's office. The instrument is available to prospectors on loan for field exploration purposes. This machine will also detect magnetics above a certain threshold value.

All of the grid lines were traversed with the BEEP MAT and no significant sulphides were detected. However, an outline of high magnetics was encountered and mapped in a predominantly northeast/southwest direction, and corresponding favourably with the magnetometer values and VLF conductors. It is believed that these readings may be caused by the secular iron ore that has been associated with this property and discussed in the geology section of this submission. This outline is shown on the Survey Grid sketch.

Magnetometer Survey Results:

Instrument used: UNIMAGII with umbilically connected upright staff sensor. Readings recorded @ 50' intervals.Sketches produced by Autosketch 95 - Release 2 Computer program. Contour maps produced by Golden Software Surfer Program Version 4.0. Background reference set at 57 x 1000.

All of the grid lines were traversed with the magnetometer and readings were recorded at 50' intervals. The resulting data was correlated and processed into the Surfer Program to produce the contour maps and the orthographic views included in this submission.

The magnetometer readings indicated an anomaly following the general trend of the BEEP MAT strike. This anomaly is outlined on the Survey Grid sketch, and shows a distinct trending in a northeast/southwest direction, extending from the Line IN x le measurement picket south to 3S Station at the creek bank. The outline indicated an anomaly of approximately l hundred feet wide and a length of four hundred and thirty feet. A weaker high was also indicated at the Line 3 S x 2e intersection.

Page 6: RPT OF WORK PERFORMED OTTER TP - Ontario · package assay was requested (As,Ba,Bi,Cr,Cu,Mo,M,Pb,Sb,Se,Sn,W,Zn), and a fire assay for Au and Ag. (See attached assay reports for results)

Results and Recommendations: (cont.)

VLF Survey Results:

Instrument used: Suunto Model EM 16 VLF Receiver Station used: Station l - Maine 24.0 kHz Quadrant reference: set at QP/o "Null signal: facing west Readings taken: facing south

All of the grid lines were traversed with the EM 16 instrument and readings were recorded at 50" intervals. The resulting data was correlated and processed into the Surfer Computer Program to produce the coniOTn'Tnaps^andTOTtto)^raphTcr views included in this submission. The data was also cbrretatedusing^the Fraser Filter Method to produce the fine graphs also included m the submission.

The VLF survey showed a number of conductors of which the most significant followed the same general anomaly outlined by the BEEP MAT and magnetometer surveys The VI .F outlined-a- zone averaging one hundred and fifty feet wide and four hundred feet long, stretching from le to 2e on Line IN, south to the number 2S station and across to 2e on Line 3S. Several other conductors are indicated on the Survey Grid sketch as well.

Recommendations:

The assays indicated very high bismuth values, and some significant gold values. The trenching where the highest values were shown should be extended to follow the vein in which these values occur. The zone outlined by all three surveys should be power stripped to bedrock and several rock trenches blasted across the area traversing northwest to southeast and sampled for any economic values. The original trenches and the current assays were exceptionally high in bismuth, and the property history has shown that high gold values occur with the bismuth. The strong anomaly indicators may be associated with nickel, and stripping and excavating this area should prove or disprove this possibility

Diamond drilling though the anomalous zones would also indicate any ore body as shown by the surveys, and should be considered.

O96 - 2(b) 2 Diabase with quartz veinO96 - 3(c) 3 Diabase with quartz veinO96 - 4(d) 3 Diabase with quartz vein

O96 - A(e) 7 Quartz vein O96-B(ff) 8 Diabase witt quartz vein

Assay Value

Bi - 2340 ppm Au -0.16 oz/ton Ba - 73 ppm

Ni - 122 ppm As - 847 ppm Ba- 111 ppm Au - 0.01 oz/ton Cu - >5000 ppm Cu-2119 ppm Bar-66 ppm

Remarks:

The assays of significance are the bismuth/gold values in trench #1, which proves that the gold is probably a bismuth telluride and occurs with high values of bismuth. The pits are all in Nippissing diabase with quartz veins, with the exception of pit #7, which is in a quartz vein about 2' wide. This quartz vein yielded high copper values and bears further investigation.

Pit #8 is also in Nippissing diabase with minor quartz veins throughout the width of the pit. The strike here as in all the pits is basically east /west and appears to follow the valley of Burden Lake,

sighted along the phs numbered one to six.as

The 1996 assays follow the trend of previous sampling in copper, gold and bismuth values, and the anomaly outlined by the three surveys is a significant new development for exploration. The anomaly may be associated with nickel and should be investigated.

GEOffiGY

The mineral potential of Otter Township lies in an east-west large strip of diabase intrusive as described by Emmons in 1924 (see attached) running through the center of the township. On the Barry claim (formerly called the Kerr clam), there have been noted two quartz veins which strike North 65 degrees west. The northern vein has at one point a width of about 12 feet, contains copper pyrites and specular iron ore, in addition to the quartz and calcite. The southerly vein has been stripped over a distance of 230 feet, and apit has been sunk 13 feet deep. In the pit the vein is 7 feet wide, consisting for tile most part of quartz, and diabase in a reticulated structure. Calcite occurs in a lesser amount and cobaltite and native bismuth have been found in small tnasses

A 3.7 ton bulk sample was taken in approximately 1980 which yielded assays of H.7% co, ni, and 9 ounces per ton ag (see attached bulk sample reports). This bulk sample was taken due to the discovery of gold values as announced hi The Northern Miner December 7, 1978 and titled "Obaska involved in Gold Discovery Near Thessalon" (attached). Original sampling assayed 1.22 oz/au over4-feet and 0.9^oz/au over 3 feet ata pomtmorethan 100*to the east The gold is occurring in a bismuth telluride and therefore bismuth values often run very high. Silver values have shown somewhat on the low side, but significant cobalt values up to 2.007o have been obtained.

The surprisingly high assay of ni (9.2*^ per ton) is certainly worthy of investigation due to the recent high interest in nickel exploration shown in the Sudbury Area.

A chip sample taken across ten feet in the main pit (1984) by Barry assayed an average of 0.27oz7ton au and another taken 20* west averaged l .23 oz/ton across 5 feet.

Assays in 1996 by the applicant showed extremely high bismuth values, and gold was evident wherever the bismuth ran high; copper and nickel were also evident.

Saunders Lake Area

3,300 feet (1,000 in) by diamond drilling; the (.wo bc-st assays recorded were 1.71 percent copper over 2.0 feet (O.G m) in diamond-drill hole No. 4, and 3.51 percent copper over 5 feet (1.5 m) from diamond-drill hole No. l (see files in Assessment Files Research Office, Ontario Division of Mines, Toronto). The diamond drill ing, consisting of a total length of 1,002.5 feet (305.7 m) in six holes, was done in 1956 by Inspiration Diamond Drill Company for Fano Mining and Exploration Incorporated (see files in Assessment Files Research Office, Ontario Division of Mines, Toronto).

Maps in a report that describe the above diamond drilling are in the Assess ment Files Research Office, Ontario Division of Mines. Toronto, and place the occurrence about 1,700 feet (520 m) north of the western end of Desayeux Lake in Otter Township. This would place the occurrence in rocks mapped by the writer as Early Precambrian granitic rocks. The writer's field party was not able to locate any of the above listed diamond-drill holes.

Burrows (1910,p. 196) reported mineralization of the vein system as follows:

On the Kerr claim, S.E.'.i of S. 'fi l ot l, eon..), there are two quartz veins which strike N. (i.r) 0 \V. The northerly vein which at one point has a width of 12 feet [;t.7 m), contains copper pyrites and specular iron ore, in addition to the quartz and calcite. The southerly vein has been stripped over a distance of 230 feet [70m], and at one place a pit has been sunk 13 feet [ 4.0 m J. In the pit the vein is 7 feet [2.1 m] wide, consisting for the most part of quartz, or quartz and diabase in a reticulated structure. Calcite occurs in lesser amount and cobaltite and native bismuth have been found in small masses. To the.east and west of the pit the vein is much narrower.

On the adjoining claim to the east there is a quartz vein with a similar strike averaging a foot [0.3 • m] in width. It has a decided comb structure, some of the quartz crystals being an inch in diameter. Calcite and occasionally cobaltite and native bismuth have been deposited between the quartz lay ers, and thin sheets of bismuth sometimes occur on the smooth faces of the quartz crystals.

One sample from the Kerr claim, consisting mostly of bismuth, gave on assay: gold, .03 oz; silver 15.9 oz; bismuth, 59.5 percent; cobalt, trace. A sample of massive cobaltite gave on assay no gold or silver.

Sergiades (1968, p.20) listed a bulk assay of 3.7 tons which yielded 14.7 per cent Co, 9.2 percent Ni, 9 ounces of gold per ton and contained native silver.

Gould Copper Mine Limited (2)

Gould Copper Mine Limited of Elliot Lake probably hold a group of leased claims in lots 8, 9, 10, and 11, concessions V and VI, Gould Township.

The Gould Mine is located in the south half of lots 10 and 11, concession VI, Gould Township, about 2,200 yards (2,000 m) from Highway 129, and can be reached using a gravel road which runs west from its junction with Highway 129, which is approximately Vz mile (0.8 km) north of the creek draining Huston Lake into Jobammageeshig Lake.

The best exposure of the diamond-drilled vein, which is mineralized in nearly horizontal Gowganda paraconglomerate, is associated with Gowganda feldspathic sandstone and laminated argillite.

Numerous quartz veins in the area carry chalcopyrite. Pits have been sunk 114 miles (2 km) southwest of the drift (shown on Map 2331, back pocket) and in

Fluorlul has been obtained In some narrow cross veinlets from the larger vein. The barlti vfclns have well-defined walls, and the filling breaks freely from the wall rock. Quantity of commercial barite could be obtained from these veins.

OTTER TOWNSHIPt

Occurrence of Cobaltite and Native Bismuth By A. Q. Burrows

The township of Otter is seventeen miles north of the town of Thessalon, is on the north shore of lake Huron.

On the Kerr claim, S.E. Vi of S. M. lot l, con. 4, there are two quartz veins strike N. 65" W. The northerly vein, which at one point has a width of 12 feet, con^ tains copper pyrites and specular iron ore, in addition to the quartz and calcite. Thi'J southerly vein has been stripped over a distance of 230 feet, and at one place a plri has been sunk 13 feet. In the pit the vein is 7 feet wide, consisting for the most of quartz, or quartz and diabase in a reticulated structure. Calcite occurs in lesser] amount and cobaltite and native bismuth have been found In small masses. To th east and west of the pit the vein is much narrower.

On the adjoining claim to the east there is a quartz vein with a similar strlkif averaging a foot in width. It has a decided comb structure, some of the quartz crystals] being an inch in diameter. Calcite and occasionally cobaltite and native bismuth hay been deposited between the quartz layers, and thin sheets of bismuth sometimes en the smooth faces of the quartz crystals.

One sample from the Kerr claim, consisting mostly of .bismuth, gave on as**jr| gold, .03 oz.; silver, 15.9 oz.; bismuth, 59.5 per cent.; cobalt, trace. A sample massive cobaltite gave on assay no gold or silver.

The rock enclosing the veins is quartz dlabasa. It occurs over a number of clali and shows differentiation to acid phases.

Under the microscope a sample of dark grey diabase shows the feldspar greatlj altered to saussurite, while the pyroxene is almost wholly changed to green hornblend uralite. Quartz is abundant in grains and in micrographic intergrowth with feldsp

An acid differentiation of the diabase occurs about one-half mile to the gout! It contains greenish laths of plagioclase and also a reddish feldspar, which lg inte grown with quartz, giving a red color to the rock. The dark minerals are green in brown hornblende, and chlorite.

Ridges of a coarse boulder conglomerate and a reddish granite were observed ne the diabase.

The diabase evidently occurs as a sill, and may correspond to the Nipissing db base at Cobalt.

CHAPTER III1. LAKE SUPERIOR SILVER DE

The Silver Islet mine and the silver mines on the u {•ward of Port Arthur are well known to students of ore de [they resemble those of Cobalt station, but they contain [cobalt, nickel and arsenic. Cobalt bloom and nickel bio ftnd other compounds, were, however, found in these laki j silver. Port'Arthur, however, Iles about '|n the Intervening area no deposits of the metal have been i,hope that deposits will be discovered when this area is exp [much of it at the present time.

The Port Arthur MinesMuch has been written on the silver mines In the a:

It will be seen from the following notes, condensed f tlhese Port Arthur deposits in many respects, especially in {for the most part vertical fissures which cut slightly inclli lin their mineral contents, resemble the silver-cobalt depos [Temlskamlng. The chief difference between the two as n hi that the Port Arthur deposits contain a higher percen [ore usually occurring In bunches or pockets, and the pe i much higher than that of the associated nickel and c utm l . small quantities or are entirely absent In some of the de| Uhe vicinity of lake Temlskaming on the other hand cou' [of gangue, and the percentage of cobalt, nickel and arser. 128exploratory pits were made on two intersecting quartz veins carrying .some chalcopyrite and pyrite. 1 The road Irom Echo Jake can still be followed, but the workings are filled with debri-.Unimportant veins of chalcopyrite hnvc been found and prospected at various points in the great diabase ridge that extends along the southeast side of Echo lake.

The old Stobie mine near Desbanu- is comparable with the Austin mine in respect to the nature and importance of its ore-body and the work done thereon. In McMahon township quartz vein- carrying chalcopyrite have been foun-.i in lot G, concession III, and lot j, concession I. Knight describes the deposit in lot G as a system of anastomosing veins and vcinlets in greywacke conglomerate, which has been traced for 300 feet and explored lo a depth of 30 feet at one place. Chalcopyrite and pyrite arc not abun dant, but specular iron ore occurs in ma.-ses, i to 4 inches in diameter. The deposit in lot 5 is about 4 feet wide, has been traced for 150 feet, anil is mineralized with chalcopyrite and pyrite for GO feet. The Rising Sun and Copper Queen mines, situated respectively in lot 9. concession II, and lots 3, 5, G, 7. arid 8. concessions IV and V, Morin township, adjacent to MeMahon, are abandoned workings of considerable macnitude- in veins rather poorly mineralized with chalcopyrite.Veins 6 to 10 feet in maximum width occur in lots 11 and 24, Rose township. Both of these have been test-pitted without very promising results. They are typical of the district, consisting of a fractured zone filled with quartz veins carrying ankerite, chalcopyrite, and some pyrite.Tiie old Two Lake mine, situated in lot S . concession IV. Day town ship, about, 9 miles northeast of Thessalon, according to Knight3 , operated a vein of the usual type; the dump contains some 25 tons of ore containing chalcopyrite in a gangue of quartz, siderite, and calcite.

Mineral Deposits iit Oiler TownshipDr. Einmons reports as follows respecting observations made during 1924: "Mineral possibilities in this township are largely limited to an east-west strip across the centre of the township where there is a large diabase intrusive. This diabase mass has at the time of crystallization been rich in rock juices, as indicated by the high content of pegmatitic material which is unevenly distributed through it. Signs of mineralization on a small scale are not uncommon and it is quite probable that systematic prospecting will reveal more important deposits. Two somewhat successful attempts to expose mineral veins are those by Burden in concession III, lot 12, and by Taylor on Clear lake, con cession III, lot 1.

Tayior's claim is centred on a quartz vein ranging from 3 feet to 10 feet in width, striking slightly north of west, and dipping steeply. In places the vein is imbricated and in place? stringers penetrate the foot wall. Obaska involved in gold discovery near Thessalon

A privately oreaniml and opera ted prospecting group based in Sud bury has come up with a totally unexpected high-grade gold show ing while in the prot-c-ss of checking out gold-cobalt-silver occurrences in the area of Oiler twp.. about 50 miles north of Thessalon.

Preliminary stripping and blast ing over a length of about 600 ft. is on-sirike with showings which might lie in to give a length of better than 1.500ft.

The show consists of veins and inclusions in a shear zone 12 to IS ft. ' wide at the poinl where sampling has been done but it is up to 20 ft. wide at an outcrop some distance to the west.

In the original sampling gold values averaged in the range of one oz. representing a central vein width of 4 to 5 ft.

Check sampling by an indepen dent gave l.22 oz. gold o\er4 ft. and 0.9 over 3 ft. at a point more than 100 ft. to the east.

The gold evidently is occurring in a bismuth telluride and therefore bismuth values often run very high. Silver values have been on the low side but significant cobalt values have been obtained .. . as high as 29o but averaging around Q.20%.

The group making the find is headed by well-known geologist Ed Blanchard of Sudbury Old time prospector Harold Barry of Sud bury is credited with turning up the showings. Funds have been pro vided by U.S. interests who are fi nancing an itnmcdiate bulk sam pling program.

There has been a modest flurry of staking in the area - perhaps 100 claims or so to ihe moment.

International Ohaska Mines is getting a tie-on block on strike lo thewest and reportedly has a similar-

. looking /one to work on. As well, officials are negotiating to partici pate in the original find.

The J P. Mcvittie interests have also been stakers.

part of an outcrop. No exploration work has been carried out on the occurrence.

An outcrop of brecciated, silicified quartzite of the Lorrain Formation lies on the common border of Sec tions 26 and 35, Vankoughnet Township, at the south western corner of Section 26, just east of an all-weather township road. Near the east end of an outcrop anomal ous radioactivity occurs in at least three parallel zones.

The radioactive zones consist of narrow limonite- stained fractures which are filled by very fine grained, dark-coloured material, which has been shown by X-ray diffraction analysis to consist essentially of quartz and feldspar, and by tiny breccia fragments of quartzite. Black, fine-grained, chloritic gouge-like material com prises the margin of at least one of the zones, and has a thickness of about 1 cm (0.4 inches).

The radioactive zones range in thickness from about 5 to 15 cm (2 to 6 inches), and can be traced on strike for about 6 m (20 feet). The three parallel zones occur on a steep hillside across a horizontal distance of about 12m (40 feet). The zones strike 290 degrees, and dip 30 to 35 N.

Three samples collected by the writer from the thick est zone analyzed 40, 67, and 87 ppm L^Og, with less than 10 ppm ThO2 in each. Laboratory work to date has not succeeded in identifying the radioactive mineral or minerals.

Although the analysis values are too low to be of economic importance in themselves (despite the fact that leaching has probably removed some uranium), the occurrence is of significance in demonstrating the presence of uranium mineralization within, and controlled by, a major fault. This suggests that other sections of the fault zone may warrant prospecting.

Although the fault zone is buried west of the uranium occurrence, its trace has been reasonably well defined by our recent work (Heyden area geological map, scale 1 inch to V* m ile, in preparation; manuscript copy available for inspection in Regional Geologist's Office, Sault Ste. Marie). To the east of the Heyden map-area, the fault zone appears to continue into Deroche Town ship (Bennett et a/. 1 975).

3. Gold, Otter Township (M, Figure 1)

Late in 1977 a new discovery of gold mineralization in Otter Township was announced. Otter Township lies 65 km (40 miles) east of Sault Ste. Marie. The new discovery has not yet been seen by the writer.

The presence of veins carrying cobalt-silver-bismuth- nickel-gold mineralization in the eastern part of the township, east of Burden Lake, has been known for many decades (e.g. Burrows 1913; Knight 1915, p.238- 239). Previous assays have all returned very low values in gold.

Evidently the new discovery was made in a simil type of vein material. Assay results of 1.22 oz. go per ton over 4 feet, and of 0.9 oz. gold per ton ov* 3 feet were reported (Northern Miner, December 1978).

The previously known veins occur in Nipissir Diabase, and the new discovery appears to occur in tr same host rock.

The former Havilah Mine produced gold from a vci deposit in Nipissing Diabase in Galbraith Townshii about 16 km (10 miles) southwest of Otter Townshii

It may be that the Nipissing Diabase in this area locally enriched in gold, as appears as in certain are, near Sudbury, and that prospecting for gold deposi; associated with the diabase is warranted. In addition other known occurrences of cobalt and associate elements in the general area may merit re-examinatior many of these do not appear to have been assayed fc gold. Several cobalt occurrences are noted by Knigh (1915). The more significant ones described by Knigh; and other more recently discovered occurrences ar shown on the geological compilation map of the are (Giblin and Leahy 1967).

ONTARIO GEOLOGICAL SURVEY ACTIVITIES

G. Bennett carried out studies of Huronian volcan! rocks and of Elliot Lake Group sedimentary rock between Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury (A, Figure 1)

W.R. Cowan completed mapping of the surficis geology of the Sault Ste. Marie area (B, Figure 1). h addition, test borings were carried out at 24 sites withii the city to provide data on sand and gravel resources Lithologic logs and a location plan have been publishec (Cowan and Leyland 1978).

M.J. Downes mapped the Lake Matchinameigus are; located about 50 km northeast of Wawa, consisting o Dolson and Echum Townships and small parts of sorru adjacent townships (C, Figure 1).
