the I'papirr.iskar. Lake, approximately "5 air miles north of Pickle Lake, Ontario. The claims were staked in March of 1981 and are in good standing until April 2nd, 1984.

The property was acquired to cover the northern extension of an iron formation which hosts major gold deposits on the adjacent property to the south held by a consortium consisting of DOME, INCO, ESSO and LACANA.

The property is easily accessible by fixed wing aircraft from Pickle Lake. An all weather road. Highway 599, connecting Pickle Lake to Wend i go Lake to the west, crosses the area approximately 30 miles to the south. A proposal to construct a road linking the adjacent Dome et al property to Highway 599 is currently under study by the Ministry of the Environment.

Gold was first discovered on the adjacent Dome et al property by the Musselwhite brothers in 1962. Intermittent exploration over the past 20 years culminated in an extensive drilling program over the past few years, which resulted in the discovery of a major gold deposit containing over l million tons averaging .20 ounces per ton. (Northern Miner, April 5th, 1981)

The gold occurs in highly contorted magnetite-chert iron form ation with disseminated pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite.

Ground electromagnetic and magnetic surveys, carried out over the 493217 Ontario Ltd. property in late 1981 by Geocanex, indicated two areas of high magnetics with co-incident EM conductors. On the south and east portion of the property large amplitude magnetic anomalies indicate folded magnetite iron formation, which from government aeromagnetic maps, represents the northern continuation of the highly deformed iron formation which hosts the Dome et al gold deposits to the south. On the west portion of the property lesser magnetic highs indicates lean iron formation and/or pyrrhotite bearing sulphide mineralization.

Geological mapping carried out over the geophysical grid indicates that most of the property is underlain by mafic meta-volcanic flows with minor meta-sediments and magnetite-chert iron formation. The rocks trend north south and form part of the large regional Caribou- Weagamow Lake greenstone belt. A synclinal fold with axis running north-south through the meta-sediments is suggested by government geological mapping.

Several sulphide occurrences were uncovered in the west sector of the property approximately correlative with magnetic-electro magnetic anomalies. The best assay was .06 ounces per ton over 2.0 feet.

The geological environment on the 493217 Ontario property is the same as that hosting the Dome-Inco-Essc-Lacana deposits. The wide spread occurrences of gold mineralization would indicate that the property has equal potential to the Dome et al property for economic gold deposits.

A program of more detailed geophysics and diamond drilling is recommended to test the gold showings and magnetic-electro magnetic anomalies.

The estimated cost of this program is S157,920.00.

a:: i~- : La^e property of 49321." Jr.tario Ltd. consists of -56 unparented mineral claims located on the north shore of Opapimiskan Lake. This property adjoins to the north of a large property held by a consortium of DOME, INCO, ESSO and LACANA. The claims were staked in March-April , 1981 following an announcement by Dome Mines on behalf of the consortium of the discovery of a deposit containing over 1,000,000 tons averaging .20 ounces per ton gold. (Figure No. 1)

The property was subsequently transferred to 493217 Ontario Ltd. and in late 1981, that company carried out VLF EM and magnetic surveys over the property. Numerous EM conductors, many co-incident with magnetic highs, were detected and a program of geological mapping, geochemical sampling, and prospecting was initiated to further evaluate the economic potential of the property.

This report describes the results of that program.

The property is easily accessible by fixed wing aircraft from Pickle Lake, a distance of 75 miles.

An all weather highway, No. 599, connecting Wendigo Lake to Pickle Lake, crosses the area in a west north westerly direction approximately 30 miles to the south of the property.

A proposal by the Dome et al consortium to construct a new road to link their property to Highway 599 is currently under study by the Ministry of the Environment.

FIELD PROGRAM

The geological mapping was carried out by H.J. Hodge by utilizing the geophysical grid. Picket line spacing is 400 feet.

Prospecting and soil sampling were carried by Jack Hodge and Scott Waldie.

Sampling of the showings was carried out by H.J. Hodge.

The program was carried out over a 2 week period from June 20th to July 1st, 1982.

HISTORY OF EXPLORATION

Gold was first discovered on the adjacent Dome et al property by the Musselwhite brothers in 1962.

Kenpat Mines Ltd. conducted an exploration program in 1962- 1963 consisting of a magnetometer survey, geological mapping, trenching and diamond drilling to explore the original discovery, the Number l Quartz vein, on the northwest shore of Opapimiskan Lake, and Number l, Number 2 and Everway gold showings in iron formation on the south side of the lake.

In 1973, the Musselwhite brothers formed a grubstake funded by a number of joint venture partners including Dome, Inco, Esso and Lacana. Since that time an intermittent program of geophysical surveying, geochemical sampling, prospecting, geological mapping, trenching, and 180 diamond drill holes (not including the 1981-82 program), culminated in an announcement of a major discovery of gold deposits containing in excess of 1,000,000 tons grading .20 ounces per ton gold. (Figure No. 1)

There is no evidence of previous exploration on the property.

* In late 1981, 493217. Ontario Ltd. established a grid on the property with lines oriented east west at 400 foot intervals and VLF EM and magnetic surveys were carried out over the grid by Geocanex.

A report by Geocanex describes the result of these surveys.Essentially there are two areas of co-incident electromagnetic andmagnetic anomalies on the property.

1. In the south east portion of the property large amptitude magnetic anomalies reflect highly folded magnetite iron formation. This iron formation in the northern continuation of the main highly contorted iron formation band which hosts the gold mineralization on the Dome et al property to the south. Magnetic ridges of lower magnetic amptitude continue on to the north boundary and probably represent lean cherty iron formation.

2. A system of less contorted magnetitic anomalies with co-incident EM conductors crosses the west portion of the property from north to south. Magnetic peaks of 5,000 gammes suggest the presence of magnetite and/or sulphide (pyrrhotite) iron formation.

REGIONAL GEOLOGY

The area was previously mapped by Satterly (1939) and Thurston et al (1971); both on a reconnaisance scale.

The property straddles a 2.5 mile wide, north-south trending, belt of Archean meta-volcanic and meta-sedimentary rocks. This sequence represents a segment of a large regional greenstone belt which extends for approximately 50 miles to the north and west. Immediately south of the property this belt bifurcates and extends southerly through Libert Lake for 10 miles and east-south-easterly through Neawagank Lake for 30 miles.

In the property area the belt is comprised of a central band of clastic metasedimenta enclosed on the east and west by mafic volcanics with interbedded oxide-silicate iron formation. The whole sequence is bounded on the west by granitic intrusives and on the east by migmatite and granite

Sulphides occur in sparse concentrations and consist of pyrite, pyrrhotite and arsenopyrite. Gold is associated with the sulphides. (Andrews et al).

Metamorphism ranges from upper greenschist to middle amphibolite facies.

Structurally Thurston et al (1971) and Satterly (1939) suggest that the metavolcanic-roetasedimentary sequence has been folded into a regional isoclinally folded syncline which strikes slightly west of north or parallel to the trend of the belt itself. The axis of this syncline is considered to co-incide with the meta sedimentary band. South of the property where the belt bifurcates into two lobes, minor but intense parasitic folding is evident in^the iron formation, indicating north north westerly plunge at 30* to 50* (Thurston et al). It is this highly contorted iron formation which hosts the gold mineralization on the Dome et al ground.

PROPERTY GEOLOGY

The property is underlain predominantly by mafic volcanics with minor metasediments and oxide-silicate iron formation.

Mafic Meta-Volcanics - The volcanic are predominantly basaltic with minor intermediate volcanics. They consist o.? medium to dark green massive flows with occasional tuffaceous units and more rarely breccias. No primary features such as pillows, vesicles or flow contacts were recognized, probably due in large part to strong foli ation, shearing and alteration. The rocks consist of chlorite, and often tremolite-actinolite, and adjacent to iron formation, contain abundant (andradite?) garnets.

Felsic Volcanics - Occasional narrow bands of silicous cherty tuff occur as interbeds within the mafic flows. In addition white weathering rhyolitic tuffaceous bands, which may also be dykes are found throughout the volcanics. Pyrite with minor pyrrhotite and traces of chalcopyrite are commonly associated with these bands.

Metasediments - Only two outcrops of meta-sediments were located on the property. They are fine grained pale brown to white weather ing, brownish grey, strongly foliated arkosic quartzj :es with equal amounts of quartz and grey feldspar grains and minor brown biotite.

Individual bands are narrow, up to several centimeters thick and cununulatively up to 20 meters thick in one stripped area. Magnetics indicate at least three separate bands. Disseminated pyrite and pyrrhotite. up to 2-3%, occur within the iron formation. The drag folds *rith amplitudes in the order of 5-10 centimeters strike north 30* west, dip moderately to steeply north east and plunge at 50* to the north west.

In the west portion of the property, no iron formation was observed in outcrop to account for the magnetic highs. Howiver, the occurrence of several cherty tuff bands containing up to 15-201 pyrite with minor pyrrhotite would suggest that the magnetic anomalies may be caused by lean oxide-silicate-sulphide iror. form ation.

Quartz-Carbonate Veins - Quartz and quartz-carbonate veins and stringers occur in numerous outcrops throughout the property in the mafic volcanics, meta-sediments and iron formation. They range in width from less than l centimeter up to 5 meters. Oc casionally minor sulphides were observed in these veins.

ECONOMIC MINERALIZATION

The principal mineral of economic importance is gold. Copper, zinc and lead sulphides are reported in the area but thus far appear tc be of minor interest only.

The principal gold deposits in the region occur on the adjacent Dome et al property.

Doroe-Inco-Esso-Lacana Property - Gold Deposits

These deposits are described by Andrews et al (1981).

Gold occurs primarily within contorted iron formation and appears to be structurally concentrated within fold culminations, particularly antiforms. The mineralization occurs in two main areas called the Camp Zone and West Anticline Zone, and estimates of ore reserves prior to 1981-82 diamond drilling program were reported to be in excess of l million tons grading .20 ounces per ton. Descriptions of these zones have not been released publicly, however Andrews et al describe the original Everway, Number l and Number 2 and Number l Vein Zone as follows;

Page 12: RPT ON GEOL MAPPING/GEOCH SAMP & PROS OPAPIMISKAN L …€¦ · adjacent Dome et al property to Highway 599 is currently under study by the Ministry of the Environment. Gold was first

rich bar.-s z r.z .s .:. jontact or. the sc^thwest side of the outcrop area with -i highly sheared mafic unit which could be either meta- gabbro or a coarse-grained flow. The contact is folded and conforms to the orientation of the iron formation bands (that is, plunging 20 0 to the west). The zone of mineralization occurs within the iron formation and appears to be oriented down-plunge along the nose of the fold. It is marked by a small, intense zone of oxida tion (about 15 by 30 m surface dimension) and late stage, cross cutting, axial planar quartz veins. The gossan contains about 2 percent sulphide mineralization (mostly pyrite) much of which is highly oxidized leaving a box-work-like texture of limonite and goethite. The quartz veins exhibit a fine-to medium-grained, sugary texture, giving evidence of cataclasis. No visible gold was observed at this location however, assays conducted on four grab samples (4 to 7, Table 1) reveal that significant concentrations occur within the highly oxidized pit and the axial plane quartz veins.

The Number l showing consists of oxide and silicate facies iron formation in a repeated series of tight, isoclinal folds (5^ type). The folds occur with a wavelength of about 2 to 3 m. The iron formation is interrupted in the central part of the out crop area by a 3 to 5 m wide mafic, possibly tuffaceous unit. Intense oxidation occurs in many of the fold culminations parti cularly the antiforms. The close spacing of folds renders these Oxidized zones almost continuous across the southwest side of the outcrop where an elongate pit has been excavated within the oxidized fold culminations. Late quartz veins { ^0,5 to 2.0 cm in width) cut across the folded iron formation, oblique to the axial plane direction. Again while no visible gold was observed at this site assays conducted on two grab samples revealed that significant concentrations occur within the oxidized fold culminations (samples 8 and 9, Table 1). As illustrated on Figure 2 both the Everway and Number l showings occur in what may be interpreted as a deformed, antiformal fold culmination.

The Number 2 showing consists of predominantly silicate facies and lesser oxide facies iron formation, with occasional intercalations of garnetiferous, mafic, possibly tuffacaous units. In contrast to the previous showings, the deformation here takes the form of small, open folds of variable dimension (0.1 to 2.0 m across) best described as disharmonious buckling. The larger- scale folds appear to be coincident with a predominance of thick cherty layers (up to 10 cm in width) and a concomittant paucity of magnetite. A number of pits have been excavated down-plunge along the axial plane of antiforms {l to 2 m in width) which are marked

A brief examination was conducted of the Number l quartz vein located about 90 m off the north shore of Opapimiskan Lake and the Teal. Cu-Au-Ag showing located north of Randall Lake (Figure 1). Details concerning the Number l quartz vein have been compiled by Thurston et al (1979). This occurrence has b**n described as a northwest-trending quartz vein hosted by a thin band of iron formation and continuous over a length of about 210 m. Twelve diamond-drill holes totalling 773m were put down along the length of this vein by Kenpat Mines Limited. The best mineralization reported was 0.39 ounce gold per ton over 0.4m. Gnr observations suggest that this occurrence is probably best described as a vein system since at a number of locations along strike, multiple sub- parallel veins are in evidence. No iron formation was observed on the surface exposures we examined, however, the main vein does appear to be hosted by a highly oxidized shear zone, most likely originally mafic roetavolcanic material. Two grab samples taken by the authors (11 and 12, Table 1) corroborate the conclusion of Thurston et al (1979) that the best mineralization occurs in shear zones adjacent to the quartz veins. According to Thurston et al, (1979) the mineralized zones do no appear to be very persistent along strike."

Figure No. 2 shows analytical results of samples taken from various showings sampled by Andrews et al (1981).

Gold Mineralization On 493217 Ontario Ltd. Property

Bedrock exposure is extremely sparse over most of the property particularly in the east part where the highly magnetic iron formation crosses from the Dome et al property. However, anomalously high gold values were encountered in a number of out crops indicating widespread occurrence. Several areas of heavy gossan were trenched and sampled. Analytical results of these samples are shown in the table on Map No. l.

Showings 0-1, 0-2. 0-3 - Trenches were put down on highly contorted magnetite-chert iron formation with disseminated sulphides in the only outcrops in the iron formation. The best of these zones is 0-3 where an 11 foot wide zone assayed .09 ounce per ton gold.

Showings 0-5, and 0-6 are sulphide zones in the west sector

Showings 0-4 ,0-7, and 0-8 are quartz veins with carbonate and gold values are only slightly anomalous.

GEOCHEMICAL SOIL SAMPLING

Suficial deposits in the area consist for the most part of coarse bouldery, sandy, glacial drift in ground moraines, eskers, and tills. These are exposed only in areas of high ground, much of the area being covered by swamp.

It was felt that the 'B' horizon soils offered the optimum possibilities of detecting bedrock gold mineralization. The east part of the property is almost totally swamp covered and no 'B' horizon soils could be obtained. In the west section of the property where the ground is higher, samples were taken at 100 foot intervals along selected lines crossing magnetic-electromagnetic anomalies. Approximately one pound of fresh till sample generally consisting of sand and sandy clay, was taken from each location, and analyzed by Bell-White Laboratories in Haileybury using the Atomic Absorption method.

Results are shown on map No. 1. Values up to 80 ppb gold were returned in a background of S to 10 ppb. On the whole no specific trends were established, possibly owing to insufficient sample density.

PROSPECTING

A thorough examination of the property was carried out and most of the available outcrops were located, particularly in the iron formation on the east part of the property. Stripping and limited trenching was carried out in the locations shown on Map No. 1. Sampling of trenches and analytical results are shown in the table on Map No. 1.

CONCLUSIONS

The salient features associated with the gold deposits on the adjacent DOME-INCO-ISSO-LACANA property are present on the property of 493217 Ontario Ltd. They are;

Page 15: RPT ON GEOL MAPPING/GEOCH SAMP & PROS OPAPIMISKAN L …€¦ · adjacent Dome et al property to Highway 599 is currently under study by the Ministry of the Environment. Gold was first

'2, Wide spread gold mineralization with values up to .09 ounce per ton over 11.0 feet. It is noteworthy that this value is higher than values from samples taken by Andrews et al from the various showings on the Dome et al property.

(3) Numerous untested VLF EM and magnetic anomalies particularly in the west portion of the property, probably re present lean oxide-silicate iron formation and/or sulphide zones.

In summary this property has excellent potential for economic gold deposits and warrents further systematic exploration.

PROPOSED EXPLORATION PROGRAM

Further exploration on the property should include more detailed geophysics to provide better definition of gold bearing zones and buried EM and magnetic anomalies, and diamond drilling to investigate these zones.

QBOphysi.es - VLF EM and Magnetic surveys should be carried out over grid lines to be established at 200 foot intervals within the existing grid. Two areas of the property should be covered;

1. Over the gold bearing contorted iron formation in the area bounded by line 0+00 to line 16+00 north and 24+00 east to 48+00 east.

2. Over EM-magnetic anomalies and gold showings on west portion of the property;

(a) line 16+00 north to line 44+00 north, 30+00 west to 40+00 west.

(b) line 0+00 north to line 24+00 north, 36+00 west to west boundary.

Approximate line mileage - 6 miles.

Diamond Drilling - A minimum of 6 diamond drill holesshould be put down to test the gold showings in the contortediron formation in the east part of the property.

6 holes should be put down to test selected magnetic-EM anomalies in the west sector of the property including showing Number 0-6.

Notice of Intent

2.b608

An examination of your survey report indicates that the requirements of The Ontario Mining Act have not been fully met to warrant maximum assessment work credits. This notice is merely a warning that you will not be allowed the number of assessment work days credits that you expected and also that in approximately 15 days from the above date, the mining recorder will be authorized to change the entries on his record sheets to agree with the enclosed statement. Please note that until such time as the recorder actually changes the entry on the record sheet, the status of the claim remains unchanged.

If you are of the opinion that these changes by the mining recorder will jeopardize your claims, you may during the next fifteen days apply to the Mining and Lands Commissioner for an extension of time. Abstracts should be sent with your application.

If the reduced rate of credits does not jeopardize the status of the claims then you need not seek relief from the Mining and Lands Commissioner and this Notice of Intent may be disregarded.

If your survey was submitted and assessed under the "Special Provision-Performance and Coverage" method and you are of the opinion that a re-appraisal under the "Man-days" method would result in the approval of a greater number of days credit per claim, you may, within the said fifteen day period, submit assessment work breakdowns listing the employees names, addresses and the dates and hours they worked. The new work breakdowns should be submitted direct to the Lands Management Branch, Toronto. The report will be re-assessed and a new statement of credits based on actual days worked will be issued.
