2 RRU Equipment
About This Chapter
The RRU is a remote radio unit.
The RRU has the following functions:
l Receiving the downlink baseband data from the BBU, transmitting the uplink baseband
data to the BBU, and communicating with the BBU.
l Receiving RF signals from the antenna, performing down-conversion, amplification, and
analog-to-digital conversion, apart from filtering downlink signals and performing digital-
to-analog conversion and up-conversion to the transmit band.
l Multiplexing the RX and TX signals in the same RF channel and filtering the signals.

3 RRU Cables
About This Chapter
The RRU cables consist of the PGND cable, power cable, CPRI optical cable, RF cable, alarm
cable, AISG multi-wire cable, and AISG extension cable.
3.1 RRU3808 Cable List
The RRU3808 cables consist of the RRU PGND cable, RRU power cable, CPRI optical cable,
RRU RF jum per, RRU alarm cable, AISG multi-wire cable for the RRU, and AISG extension
cable for the RRU.
3.2 RRU PG ND Cable
The PGND cable ensures the grounding of the RRU.
3.3 RRU Power Cable
The RRU uses a shielded -48 V DC power cable. The cable feeds external -48 V DC power to
the RRU.
3.4 CPRI Optical Cable
The CPRI optical cable connects the BBU and the RRU and transmits CPRI signals.
3.5 RRU RF Cable
The RRU RF cable transmits and receives RF signals.
3.6 RRU Alarm Cable
The alarm cable of RRU is a shielded straight through cable. It transmits 2-channel Booleanalarm signals and 1-channel RS485 signal from external equipment to the RRU. Thus, the
external signals are monitored.
3.7 AISG Multi-Wire Cable for the RRU
The 5-m-long AISG multi-wire cable is used to connect the RRU with the RCU and to transmit
the base station signals for controlling the RET antenna. The AISG cable is optional.
3.8 AISG Extension Cable for the RRU
When the distance between the RCU and the RRU is longer than 5 m, the AISG multi-wire cable
is not long enough to cover the distance. In this case, the AISG extension cable is used. The AISG
extension cable is 15 m long.

NOTE
l When the distance between the RRU and the antenna is within 14 m, one end of the RF jumper is connected
to the ANT-TX/RXA or ANT-TX/RXB port at the bottom of the RRU, and the other end is connected to
the antenna.
l When the distance between the RRU and the antenna exceeds 14 m, the RF jump connects to the feeders before the feeders connect to the RRU and antenna. If the RF jumper is provided by the customer, the length
of the RF jumper should not exceed 2 m and be as short as possible.
Appearance
The RF jumper has one DIN male connector at each end, as shown in Figure 3-5.

3.5.2 RF Cable Connections of the RRU
One end of the RF cable is connected to the RF port on the RRU, and the other end is connected
to the feeder. RF ports are chosen on the basis of networking mode.
Table 3-4 describes the connections of the RF jumper to the RF port on the RRU in different
networking modes.

3.6 RRU Alarm Cable
The alarm cable of RRU is a shielded straight through cable. It transmits 2-channel Boolean
alarm signals and 1-channel RS485 signal from external equipment to the RRU. Thus, the
external signals are monitored.
Appearance
The cable has a DB9 waterproof connector at one end and eight cord end terminals at the other
end, as shown in Figure 3-6.
NOTE
If the cord end terminals of the cable do no match the ports on the external devices, cut off the cord end
terminals and make proper terminals on site.

Pin Assignment
The cable can transmit 2-channel Boolean alarm signals and 1-channel RS485 signals. Table

3.7 AISG Multi-Wire Cable for the RRU
The 5-m-long AISG multi-wire cable is used to connect the RRU with the RCU and to transmit
the base station signals for controlling the RET antenna. The AISG cable is optional.
NOTE
The Remote Control Unit (RCU) is the driving motor of the phase shifter inside the RET antenna. The RCU
receives and executes the control commands from the BTS to drive the stepper motor. The adjustable phase
shifter inside the antenna is driven by the actuator so that the tilt of the antenna can be changed.
Appearance
The AISG multi-wire cable has a DB9 waterproof male connector at one end, and a standard
AISG female connector at the other end, as shown in Figure 3-7.

3.8 AISG Extension Cable for the RRUWhen the distance between the RCU and the RRU is longer than 5 m, the AISG multi-wire cable
is not long enough to cover the distance. In this case, the AISG extension cable is used. The AISG
extension cable is 15 m long.
Appearance
The AISG extension cable has a standard AISG male connector at one end, and a standard AISG
female connector at the other end, as shown in Figure 3-8.

4 RRU Auxiliary Device
About This Chapter
The RRU auxiliary device is the Outdoor Cable Conversion Box (OCB).
4.1 OCB
The Outdoor Cable Conversion Box (OCB) interconnects cables of different core diameters.
The power cables shipped with the RRU cannot support long-distance power transfer. Therefore,
when the power supply is far from the equipment, a cable that has a large core diameter is required
to obtain power, and the OCB needs to be used to connect the power cable of the RRU and the
cable of a large core diameter.
