industry and industries are

now adopting it . . .

One of the underlying assumptions of maintenance theory has

always been that there is a fundamental cause and effect relation-

ship between scheduled maintenance and operating reliability

This assumption was based on the intuitive belief that because

mechanical parts wears out, the reliability of the equipment is

based on its operating age. It follows that the more often the

item is overhauled the better protected it was against the likelihood

of failure. Over the years, however, it was found out that many

types of failures cannot be prevented no matter how intensive the

maintenance activities. Extracted from the manuscript of Nowlan and Heap

But the most valuable lessons learned by the Airline Industry is that

maintenance is not about Preventing Failures but understanding &

dealing with the consequences of failure and this is what a true and

meaningful maintenance is all about.

Who Should Attend:

A Briefer About this RCM Course• Almost every industry have some form of Preventive Mainte-

nance where they scheduled their equipment for some re-

placement and overhauling activities on a time-dominated

pattern. But despite the very best and noble efforts, a lot of

unexpected problems, breakdowns and failures still occur on

the equipment and every single hard knock maintenance know

and have experience about this. Worst, operators of equip-

ment complains, that Preventive Maintenance group had just

made their equipment worst after performing their routing PM

overhauling. There is a detailed and thorough technical

explanation behind this.

• Whilst, others think about maintenance as transitioning from

a Preventive to Predictive Maintenance, while some think it

about transitioning from reactive to proactive maintenance.

These people have been truly misinformed. No disrespect,

but am not against Preventive Maintenance, but I’m against

people who abuse the use of Preventive Maintenance and

continuously add intrusive or force maintenance activities into

the never ending list of PM activities to be done.

• In view of this, I would like to invite your key people on this

one time event on "Reliability-Centered Maintenance" that will

provide each and every maintenance an indebt understanding

on what maintenance is all about, what it can do and what

it cannot do so that we can grasp an understanding on how

we can do maintenance on our plants. This course will make

you think differently on how you perform your maintenance.

It all started from the Airline

industry and industries are

RCM Course Objective:• Provide a deeper understanding on what it takes for our

maintenance to be most effective and efficient.

• Realize that maintenance tasks will be based from the

consequences of the failure itself

• Know when to use the different maintenance tasks at hand

with the aid of a Decision Diagram

• Learn the 6 failure patterns and how it affects us in our day

to day maintenance activities

• Learn how to apply Reliability-Centred Maintenance in our

daily activities

RCM Course Overview:• This course covers the principles of RCM which is a process

used to determine the maintenance requirements of any

physical asset in its present operating context. RCM is done

by asking seven questions about our asset or system that is

being maintained

- What are the functions and associated performance

standards of the asset in its present operating context ?

- In what ways does it fail to fulfill its functions?

- What causes each functional failure ?

- What happens when each failure occurs ?

- In what ways does each failure matters ?

- What can be done to predict or prevent each failure ?

- What should be done if a suitable proactive tasks cannot be

found ?

• RCM was discovered by Stanley Nowlan and Howard Heap

from United Airlines industry and emerged from the most

important piece of research ever done on an equipment.

RCM explains the capabilities as well as the limitation of

scheduled Preventive Maintenance. RCM is a process to

determine what should be done in order to ensure that our

physical assets continue to do whatever the user wants

them to do in its present operating context.

• If you are happy with the way you and your people perform

maintenance, then I am glad for you and you don’t need

this course, but if you ever wonder and have the slightest

doubt that your current Preventive Maintenance strategy is

not enough despite your very best and noble efforts, then

you definitely need to attend this course.

RCM Master Class, Shell, Nigeria, Oct. 2007

• Rolly Angeles is one of the best trainers (World Class) I have

ever met in my life. The delivery of the RCM course by him

was so smooth and straight to the point. Besides he combined

technicality with intellectualism thereby carrying with him even

the most assume idle time along. The definition of the different

tasks in RCM caught most of my attention. The RCM Informa-

tion Worksheet simplifies the course to enable an ideal team to

come up w/ the best maintenance strategies. Although it is a

challenge to convince management team that is not trained on

RCM to adopt, I will still insist that RCM is the best maintenance

strategy world wide now. From Kalu-Kalu, Head of District

• Presentation materials is clear plus the facilitator provides complete resource and reference materials. The training is

scheduled on time and great help on my job. The workshop is lively and I understand the principles. From Ericson

Delagon, Probe Test, ST Microelectronics

• Very comprehensive training and technically productive for future reference and topics. Name Withheld, Manager, ST

Microelectronics

• Learned about the new techniques in performing the maintenance tasks to achieve World Class Maintenance. Sir

Rolly has a deep understanding in maintenance particularly in RCM. Able to motivate the participants in doing RCM.

From Lakan Mabasa, Facility Engineer

• Interactive training. Learned the 6 failure patterns. Effective in depth machine analysis thru different tools and style.

Realistic approach on examples provided. From Wency Ubana. Equipment Engineer, ST Microelectronics

• Presentation slides are good and visually enticing. Facilitator has a vast knowledge of the subject matter with good

example based on actual experience. The training is lively with the inclusion of songs and video clips. I admire how

the trainer relate the “Rolling Stones” with maintenance. I salute his endeavor to “serve maintenance mankind

worldwide”. From Beneth Abas Engineering Manager, Probe Test, ST Microelectronics

• I am able to link FMEA to PM tasks easier in terms of the most effective tasks. Run to fail in most industries is

unacceptable and must be done on PM where the decision worksheet can answer. From Jervy Young, ST

Microelectronics

• The examples given by the facilitator are very practical. Rolly Angeles is not only very knowledgeable on the topic, he

is also very encouraging. From Flordeliza Aldaya, TQP/TPM Manager, ST Microelectronics

• Examples and forms were explained well. Structure and tactic to implement RCM was discussed. TPM vs RCM was

explained well. From Charles Mendoza, Senior QRE, ST Microelectronics

• The training was an eye opener that our current way of working Preventive Maintenance is not the best way to deal

with equipment failures which are infant, random and age related failures. We now realized that several maintenance

techniques should be applied to address the different types of failures. From Cris Almazora, Equipment Engineer, ST

Microelectronics

• RCM enlightened me on the different failure modes. In that way, it provided me to further dig on failure findings even

on hidden failures which the training is focused. More reliable solutions be bring out with the aid of the RCM tool.

From Anselma Cobcobo, Plant Operator, Hedcor Inc.,

• I can see the difference between preventive and predictive maintenance. The training points out clearly that

maintenance will not eliminate and zero out all breakdowns on the equipment but the best maintenance we can do is

to control the timing of failure. Keep it up and continue to inspire others. Thank you and God bless. Hans Geoffrey
