Stéphane Denève RSNO Music Director
Dear Friends,
stéphane Denève opens an exciting new Rsno season with one of the most popular symphonies ever written, Dvorák’s New World, whilst James MacMillan conjures up scenes from an old world evoking strong musical resonances of Britten’s Peter Grimes. and star soloist nicholas angelich, heading a season of glittering pianists from across the globe, performs Ravel’s most dramatic work, the Concerto for the left Hand.

Hector Berlioz never did anything by halves. From the supercharged imagination of an artist in love, his Symphonie fantastique is just that – fantastic! once heard, never forgotten: and fellow-Frenchman stéphane Denève has this music in his blood. szymanowski’s gorgeous, shimmering second Violin Concerto is altogether more refined, though in the hands of the great Frank Peter Zimmermann, it’ll be every bit as intoxicating.

Russian music simply doesn’t get any more romantic than Rachmaninov’s second symphony. lush, expansive and gloriously indulgent, it sweeps from vast brooding landscapes to soaring lovescenes.
